Official car parks (1 Viewer)

Much as I don't want to give any money to our insect landlords I needed to be in Brum by 6pm yesterday so decided to book the official car park so I could get away quickly.

Booked in to A. Arrived at 2pm and got in via number plate recognition drove round the car park a bit, as others were, looking for a non existent space. Eventually a steward came over and said there was no spaces and to go to car park B, ignoring the question of how there can be no spaces when a booking has been made in advance.

So drive round to B, or attempt to, only to be stopped by a Wasps employee saying the access to B is closed. I asked him if it was full and he said there was lots of spaces but Paul Cook, the stadium safety officer, had decided nobody was allowed to drive round there.

Was then told to go to D, which until yesterday I didn't know existed. That involved going out of the stadium and back in. Got back to the entrance to be told D was full. The steward there declared 'Cookie has fucked it up again' and when I asked him why the pre-booked spaces weren't reserved he said 'happens every week, there's no organisation'. Advised me to send in a complaint but then said 'they'll ignore it if you do'.

After much chatter on his radio got sent over the road to C. Drove round to there and was asked for the parking voucher I had been given when turned away from the other car parks, slight problem as I hadn't been given one. More radioing and eventually got let in. Managed to get to my seat just as the game kicked off.

How can anyone make such a mess of something so simple. If you've got a car park with 500 spaces and you've sold 400 in advance surely common sense tells you only sell 100 on the day. If you've got a car park that requires people to drive down the side of the stadium then have queue management that keeps that area free.

This all seems to be really basic stuff. How do they get it so wrong?

The perfect PR machine don't get things wrong. It must be SISU fault. It can be the only answer surely. It was all down to Fisher.

Because they don't give a fuck, for which they should all be sacked. Your tale of woe got me fucking raging - shades of Michael Douglas in Falling Down.

Wow. Absolutely shocking.

I’ve always parked in the Rowley’s Garage car park, never any hassle and not bad value for a fiver.

You’d think the official car parks would have it sussed, especially after paying £10 for the privelage.

I wasn't happy but no point going off on the stewards. They made it pretty clear this happens regularly and any complaints get ignored.

Its hard to see how you can get anything so straight forward as wrong as this.

We normally park in the mother in laws drive then walk. But the wife has a bad foot. I had intended to drop her off, park, then walk back to meet her.

But on route I just thought let's try car park C. Got in and parked no problem.

Which makes the OP's pre book experience ridiculous. I don't even think this is an ACL problem...it seems to be a modern business problem...shit service!!!

I used car park A all season and yesterday I was at a family function so arrived later than usual at 2.20. I parked no issue, had to park in a different row than I usually do but there was still a few spaces available towards the back of the car park.

I'm thinking of booking a space for Saturday in Car Park C. Can you still do this online?

Sorry, just checked the ricoh arena website and have done it. Wouldn't usually bother but the wife is going on Saturday and she won't be happy if she has to walk too far!

For the Lincoln game, I was late arriving and rather than hunt around for street parking I just drove straight into car park C. Paid a tenner to the attendant, walked through the subway (3 mins) the ground. On the way out it was less than 40 seconds from getting into my car to driving out up to the traffic light. Was at the Ricoh roundabout within a couple of minutes. Couldn't fault it - the only time I've done it.

Is there any reason to think I couldn't do the same on Saturday i.e just rock up without pre-booking?

Yeah, we park there a lot, through the subway and you're at the ground. I only pre-booked as I think it may be busy. I haven't a clue what the attendance will be though. Have the club stated any sales figures so far? Didn't the tickets go on general sale today?

Which is the best off site parking these days? Does the little industrial site opposite the bus entrance to tesco on Longford Rd still open up for match days?

Sorry to trouble you Torch but please send me a link to the webpage where you can pre-book parking? Had a look on the Ricoh Arena website and can't find the page. Ditto on the CCFC webpage. Thanks in advance.

It will be full. The Lincoln game I was late and they wouldn’t let me in even though there were spaces.

It was a farce - there was nowhere to park and the other car park said no. In the end I went back to car park A and just told the bloke to take the money - he did and let me in.

I’ve also known people who’ve pre booked and have been turned away

Weird....I arrived at 7.40 on the night of the Lincoln game and was waved in without a queue, parking spot right next to the entrance. This was car park C, though. No idea why it would make any difference.

Try this:

Find an Event / Glide Parking

They add 20p admin fee on. A tenner is still a lot for a parking space, but nice to know it is sorted already so I don't have to leave too early on Saturday.

Got back to the entrance to be told D was full. The steward there declared 'Cookie has fucked it up again' and when I asked him why the pre-booked spaces weren't reserved he said 'happens every week, there's no organisation'.
