Has he? Oh, right, thanks.
Was just trying to make the point re a second striker. Been talk on here that a player wouldn't come in to sit on the bench behind Armstrong, but I just think with the combination of loss of form, injury, suspension, international call-ups and the potential to field two strikers together at times, then any new striker coming in would indeed get enough game time here for sure.
Looks like we could be missing Armstrong for 2 games at Easter, Peterborough away and Colchester at home.
England U19's have 2 European qualifying matches and you would assume he will be called up, so it's not just about taking pressure off Armstrong, but as has been said, cover for suspension, injury and now with this of course, international call-ups.

I agree, been saying a for a few months we need another striker and fortune and tudguy aren't good enough cover.
I do think the fact we play only play 1 up front and that Armstrong is an automatic starter will have some impact on the caliber of striker we bring in. For example everyone's banging on about Samuel but IMO reading won't him moving from a top 2 side playin and scoring week in week out, to coming and sitting on our bench or being rotated for example. Likewise Newcastle are happy with Armstrongs development because he plays 90 mins week in week out, they won't be happy if he starts getting rotated.
Yes you could go and change the formation and go 2 up top, but I just can't see Mowbray moving especially as moving to two - 442,352, 41212, etc, etc will make it difficult to fit in the likes of Murphy, Cole and Maddison into a starting line up.
I think someone like that Smith from Swindon is a more likely target than Samuel.
But we do desperately need someone to come in and provide quality back up to Armstrong.

Ideally it would be good to find a striker who is also adept at playing wide. I know on occasion Armstrong has played wider, though not necessarily wide left.
Totally agree. Have seen the ball out wide and immediately switched my focus to the box and more often than not it's just Armstrong there, with one or two players approaching from just outside the penalty area.Yep agreed. sorry Otis I should have made that more clear in my post, I meant start with 2 up front so agree with your first point!
Personally, I think we have enough players who can play wide, I'd like a big man who's the get in the box and end of a cross sort of player to give us some variety. One of our issues is we don't get enough players in the box when the balls out wide.

Did notice twice on Tuesday that Walsall had their fullbacks inside, or just outside the penalty area. One occasion in particular, their right back made a tremendous run into space awaiting a through ball which would have probably given him a direct run on goal.
We need more bodies going forwards, but I am guessing TM is worried about us being caught on the break.
Yep, I think some judgement upon Armstrong is very harsh. Sometimes we get people saying he didn't have a good game at all, yet he has simply been isolated and no-one has been able to give him the ball in dangerous positions. This is why Armstrong struggles in some games. It is not that he isn't playing well it is just he gets isolated and we don't get players in the box to support him. I sometimes think we need the option of two up top, just to make teams 're think their tactics.
Only headers really are by defenders from corners. If you boil our games down when do we score from crosses from open play ? We have wide players who often get past full backs to the bye-line but nothing comes of it, come to think of it apart from corners or free kicks have we scored many headers, can't remember the last time. We need a centre forward to partner AA, play with 2 wide players so for me that's 4-4-2 or 4-3-3

Good point. Me neither. Not once.I've not seen Armstrong head the ball all season.

Sometimes he gets little or no support and this is why I think JOB is important and Maddison and Cole too.
You need to support when you have one solitary striker.
And in Murphy's case, coming inside from wide positions.Yep, there's no issue playing a lone striker but you need 2-3 of your midfielders making runs in behind and making late runs into the box. Murphy does it occasionally but the only other player really has been Vincelot when Mowbrays given him the licence to when we've been chasing the game - Job, Maddison, Cole and Lamieres do their best work deeper in front of the back 4, as does Murphy to an extent.

Geez, you're easily pleased! With me it usually needs a Tim Vine pun or Eddie Izzard talking about being covered in bees and the Death Star canteen!I haven't even seen him attempt to win a header this season! When our goal kicks go up to him it makes me laugh

You lot realise we have scored more than all bar 2 teams in the division.

correct the system has worked well most of the time. It just needs a couple of tweaks and a plan B for the odd day it doesn't. I have never understood this fixation with 442 some of our fans have.
Check their season ticket books and see if their surnames are Bassett.correct the system has worked well most of the time. It just needs a couple of tweaks and a plan B for the odd day it doesn't. I have never understood this fixation with 442 some of our fans have.
Wasn't that a near post header on Tuesday night that led to Stokes goal?I haven't even seen him attempt to win a header this season! When our goal kicks go up to him it makes me laugh
Yep it was!Wasn't that a near post header on Tuesday night that led to Stokes goal?

Interesting that Nathan Oduwa has returned to Tottenham after his loan spell at Rangers.
Should still be able to go after Gladwin then.I see the Ben Gladwell rumour has crashed and burnt....joined Bristol City on loan.
