Ogogo and Brown (1 Viewer)

Is anybody going to ask Robins what the score is with them?

We keep hearing about inexperience and naive but we had a marquee signing in Ogogo who had a hefty signing on fee to pick us over Charlton and Brown as well.

We also had Andreu who wasn't making the bench but can then get straight into Hamilton's starting 11.

I would certainly play Brown who is far tougher than Mason and may as well give Ogogo a chance as he can’t do less than Kelly as any fool can pass it sideways and backwards

Today should have been an ideal time to ask, especially about Ogogo. For Westbrooke to get the nod ahead of both him and Doyle, surely it would have been a top priority to pose the question?

That said we’d probably get a pre prepared answer, about how he’s earning his place in training etc, but use that to turn the question around; if he’s doing it in in training, what is or Aren’t the other two doing?

Anyone else notice Brown warming up just by himself yesterday pre-match?

I didn't spot it, but my mate pointed it out to me.

Everyone else was working together and knocking the ball about, but Brown was just by himself doing exercises. No-one seemed to be communicating with him.

Might be just nothing of course and not necessarily mean anything.

And yet at the time Ogogo and Brown looked to be the best signings,, if only because of their experience and having played at L1 level. Something has gone wrong

Well I think Westbrook was possibly my MOTM.
So that was a good nod.

Considering we have lost McNulty, Chaplin hasn't yet got going, Brown and Ogogo seem to be bad eggs (apologies to them if not true), Bakayoko has been injured, Max and Jodi Jones got crocked for the season - and we just scraped into this league, perhaps it is somewhat remarkable that we are not languishing in the bottom four? This is why I won't turn against MR, as I feel he will get it right given time (I also accept that he is responsible for bringing in Brown, Ogogo and Chaplin- the latter of whom may still work out)

I would keep both and get them a good pre season and see how they go then. Look at them as new signings that are due to come in.

Very fair, Harry.

I still have faith in Robins but his recruitment is a little sketchy, the loanees he brings in look far above anything we have so at least some of his judgement is right but the permanent signings are atm looking ropey....is it a case of this is the best we can afford? or is it that his scouting system is somewhat letting him down

Good point Steve - it must be a tricky balancing act. First to find a playing style that suits, then recruit the players to best suit it. On top of that, you are then faced with a pitch which is fine for half a season and then turns into a potential nightmare (in terms of bounce) for the other half - during which you would have to think changing some of the tactics are unavoidable (e.g. square passing across the back on a bobbly pitch is an accident waiting to happen).
The overall situation is further hampered by players/agents not making their intentions clear, although I suppose that is the same for a lot of clubs. It was interesting to hear John Coleman (The Accrington manager) saying he found it difficult to sign players, as they didn't want to go and play there (although having seen their pitch against derby, can't say I blame them). I would happily take several of the Accrington players (McConville, Jordan Clark towards the top of the list)

Whereas the opposition can pass across the back without any worries because Chaplin isn't the quickest

The irony is that if Robins was sacked on Monday, and A. Manager was appointed on Weds, both Brown & Ogogo would start on Saturday.

It's nothing similar, but I remember when Strachan was replaced by Nilsson and we beat Sheff Utd 1 nil by a goal from Laurent Delorge. Been at the club for a long while, never saw a matchday squad until then. Just some players won't get a run under one manager, but will be a crucial starter under another.

I was widely criticised on here for saying how poor our summer recruitment had been and that there was no clear plan to what we were doing.

Why do people assume the players on question habe a bad attitude?

Guilty of being armchair detectives (me too). Betterdays (who seems well connected) says Brown and Ogogo want out. Ogogo (in particular) seemed such a key player this season and has done zilch - something is off there, surely? MR will want them to have succeeded, and maybe Ogogo can't/won't do what MR wanted of him? If one of the two is unsettled, it may have rubbed off on the other (having previously played together). I rest my case for the defence covcity4life !!
