O'Hare bids (39 Viewers)

It's not really relevant, the facts are we'll be selling our best player, widely recognised as our key man and will not be able to spend all of the income on a replacement. It's going to be really difficult for the outcome not to be a regression in the overall quality of the sqiad.

Of course it's relevant. When we've lost/not kept the likes of Walsh or McNulty, we've not gone backwards. We've managed to bring in players to replace them that have helped us move up the leagues/league table.

100% this, I get the venom directed at our owners for all the mistakes of the past but people need to actually look at facts from recent times to see that it's actually not been too bad recently

I should also add that the above isn't guaranteed to happen everytime and maybe if we do lose CoH, we do go backwards.

The most recent history has told us to trust MR and his team to get it right, when we lose such a key player.

Sorry I was talking more about sales wise, this is the first time in a few years we actually have saleable assets and unlike other years we appear to not have to sell them on the cheap, surely if things were as bad as people are making out we would have accepted the reported offers for vik or hamer or O'Hare that we have aparently rejected in favour of if we sell them they go for what they are worth (as apposed to what happened with Wilson, maddison, juke etc)

That's what feels different to me... Also from a outgoing point of view we have given new contracts to O'Hare and Hamer which won't have been cheap and I can't imagine Palmer is on peanuts either. We would also have loan fees and wages on the two loan players so money is being spent (again something that people don't seem to accept for some reason)

But then that's chicken and egg. The nervousness is that we *will* end up selling them on the cheap, as much to pay for those very same contracts. Until it's done and dusted, that's going to be there isn't it. I'd agree that the new contracts is very good news - with the attendent worry that us seemingly being unable to sustain our wage bill doesn't bode well for us going forward. Fisher had always said our model would work in league one, but not this one... and that's a nagging doubt isn't it. And while I hate it when fans are billy big bollocks about their clubs, you'd think middling Championship ought to be a reasonable aspiration for us, surely? And yes, that will indeed involve selling players, so I'm not particularly worried about that. I'm more concerned about how we then work to improve the squad, and how our owners decide what's appropriate for running costs... and what those running costs turn out to be. The slow movement so far appears to show we're right at our limit, and what we had done a lot better in recent years is get our top targets in early, allow them to bed in (well, I'll give you the likes of Chaplin, who were a long, tortured chase!).

We will indeed wait and see, but the runes aren't reading well atm. I wasn't one who thought we should push in January (and we did sign Bidwell then anyway) but I was admittedly hoping for a permanent CB at the very least, and that doesn't look a possibility anymore, does it.

What I especially hope however, is that if we do go into the season with pretty much the same squad we have now, people don't expect too much of the manager and show some tolerance if it doesn't go as we all hope. This season feels very much like a standing still season, which doesn't have to be a bad thing in itself... but we have had momentum behind us for a while now, and that's been quite nice really!

Was reported as a free initially but since then there’s been word there was a fee just undisclosed.
That could be literally anything though couldn't it. peugeot bought Chrysler UK for a pound, after all!

But it's a bit easier at a lower level, it gets harder to replace players of O'Hare's class because you are competing with clubs that are far better off and can offer much better. It was relatively easy for us to replace McNulty for example because we were only competing realistically with other L1 clubs and we were one of the better off ones.

As could Sheaf and Gyokores.

It also means we could potentially get people in without a fee but have money for their wages.
Again, the noises coming out were that those two were somewhat more. As shmmeee mentions, Palmer started off as free, then went to fee. That doesn't suggest we were suddenly spunking for him.

Oh I am not saying he was millions, he was announced as undisclosed with the signing.

For all we know he might be amazing in our system, people were whinging about Gyokores being shit when we signed him based on his loan (and what Swansea fans said). As for Sheaf, well. 😂

It would also need to wait and see if O'Hare goes, who is brought in after him and how they fit.

I dunno, I find the noise very different this year to last (OK, Sheaf was already confirmed beforehand but he signed permanently, we spent on Gyokeres) or the one before that (we bought Hamer). There's been nothing like that, and the talk has instead been of players being sold with nothing other than a bit of a punt to console us.

If we'd signed a Gyokeres as-was or a Hamer as-was, I'm sure people would be a bit more phlegmatic.

I had to Google what phlegmatic meant but some people on here were just as bad last transfer window / start of season. There was just as much moaning and panicking, just over different things. I bet it's the same people who were saying last season that O'Hare & Sheaf were shit and we hadn't strengthened and would probably be in another relegation scrap.

We're in a better position now, with actual real sellable assets. When was the last time we had that?

But in all seriousness what movement do we now need unless one of the first team players go?

Panzo we know robins has been after for years and Doyle seems to be instead of JCS as he chose a more established championship club nearer to his home than us which is understandable

What we knew we needed and people have been crying out for is a new cam which we have now got and one with a decent pedigree that cost 3.5 mil a few seasons ago, so don't see how as things stand right now on paper how we have gone backwards this summer if I'm honest (of course that could all be different come the 1st September when the window is closed but I'm talking about things that have happened not rumours)

I will accept that I was very dubious about us using our budget to sign Gyokeres, based on his loan spell with us before. It was more the point that we did actually spend some money on some players, that suggested we were trying to grow both the club and them. And yeah, that means they get sold at some point up the food chain (hopefully! It shows we've done well if so!) but we still need some others to come through.

I mean, there's some truth in what you say but I don't think it's always the case that it's harder the more you go up the pyramid.

MR isn't stupid - he'll know that when your crown jewels play well and put themselves in the window, you need to plan for what's likely going to be an inevitable departure. He also (having had a number of years experience of working with the owners) will know what pond he needs to fish in.

All he's done is move us forward. I'll be gutted if/when O'Hare goes - for as much as his integral-ness within the team as much as what he does on the pitch. But I also know plans will be in place and it' be a case of 'gutted - but we go again'.

Well yeah, there will be multiple targets lined up (ducks in a row) for if each of the valuations is met.

its irrelevant as we are now in a totally different situation

Don't worry. That's on its way when Robins discovers he's getting non of the proceeds to invest

I am not worrying about anything because life is too short.

Even if we had different owners we would still be selling players and fans would be moaning about the owners. Just listen to radio Talkbollocks - fans of Prem clubs phoning in moaning. If we got back in the Prem our fans would still be moaning. Its the nature of the football fan.

Different owners wouldn’t be stacking up loans against us at 17 %
