Oldham fan's view of Saturday (1 Viewer)

Hi guys

Sorry to invade your board. I’m here in peace, I assure you.

At Saturday’s game you may have noticed a flag in the away end with the name Ernie Cooksey on it. Ernie played for Oldham in the mid 2000s but unfortunately died of skin cancer in 2008.

A group of us had the flag made up and now take it to all Oldham and England games to keep Ernie’s memory alive and to publicise the issue of skin cancer in the young. When we take the flag to a new ground we put a review of our day on our website. This is very much a review of the day rather than of the match as more often than not the match hardly warrants a mention.

If you’d like to see what we made of the visit to Coventry and the Ricoh, please have a look here:

http://www.ernieflag.co.uk/site/index.php/the-tour/5-on-the-road/150-season-5-coventry

Please read the article in the spirit in which it was written. It is not supposed to be anything but biased so I’m sure you won’t agree with it all. I think you come out of it OK though.

Good luck for the rest of the season. I've a feeling you won't be too far away from the top come May

Cheers

Mark

Cracking write up, one thing I've got to pick you up on when you said . Garry McSheffrey (a player who surely shouldn’t be plying his trade at this level). Yes, yes he should

Proper fans !! I hope they'll forgive me for comparing them a bit to that new comedy set up North with the Stockport supporters and Ricky Tomlinson. Good to see they appreciated what many Cov fans suffer with seeing.................the Ricoh is a fantastic stadium, it just needs more attendees !

Glad you enjoyed the Lime Tree! My old stomping ground before I upped pegs and moved south. ;)

Hi Mark,
Good write up, was an enjoyable read.

Thanks for your kind comments and many thanks to Gaz for donating to Cancer Research UK.

I'm not sure about being likened to the guys from Big Night Out but I'd like to think it was kind of a compliment ;-)

It seems a very long time since we were playing you in the top flight although you always beat us then too. I particularly remember a Saturday night game at Highfield Rd live on Sky where we were 3-0 down in no time. BAck then I probably thought things could only get better. If only I'd known.

Hope you can get a win in the JPT and a trip out to Wembley.

Thanks for sharing the trip report with us, ernieflag.

It's funny how we all think the same: Cov never score from corners either and your description of the feelings associated with the last-minute defeat could have been my own words.

Bet you preferred Highfield Road to the Ricoh though...

Yup, Coventry fans can certainly empathize with your despair at the 'last minute loser'.
Best of luck for the future. :claping hands:

Very good read fella! Like a few have already mentioned - should have booked your coach in and popped to casino for pre-match entertainment!

really enjoyed the read. I think one thing about being in League 1 is you get stuff like this. doubt we would have got this from a Man United Fan. was enjoyable to see the perspective from the other side - which, most of the time, is actually probably quite similar to ours. We are also very much use to dissapointment and last minute winners against us, so we are enjoying a few months of the reverse.

good luck to Oldham for the rest of the season, and have to say I think that is an excellent way to honour and remember an ex player

Yeah, I loved it too. The Oldham fans who trekked down our way deserved that today. Its these games that keep a club alive.
