Good, we need better if we’re going for promotion, and not just in shot stopping but also clarity and leadership at the back, it’s a real mess at times.

I agree. Very good keepers make things look easy and just come and collect. Very vocal and are good organisers

It’s an interesting position to spend a million or more on considering we’re lacking in both full back slots and still need to add a central midfielder.

I think a keeper is a key position in a good team. We may need players in other positions, but I think we have more strength already in those than at keeper?

My concern is that he’s only 21. All young players make mistakes, keepers more so as their mistakes stand out so much more.

Need the fans to stick by him when he does make an error.
Not sure there’s much patience for errors among the fan base looking at this forum 😱.

Man U bought De Gea when he was only a little younger than this. I thought he was error prone in his first season before settling down to be one of the best in the world over the next decade.

FYI - I’m not saying Dovin will be one of the best in the world!

I agree but also think we have to have a better keeper than Collins, it’s been a shit show over the last few seasons.

I also agree that we need to sign a new LB and back up RB as well tbh, imagine MVE 2.0 on the left and then a back up at RB for when we need to rotate or get injuries. I think Camara could be decent enough if the price is right. We’ve also got to think ahead as well, I’m guessing a big offer will come in for MVE next season and he’ll be gone, then we’re left with nothing in RB, having a backup RB “gelling” with us for a season will surely help the transition next year. Say £2 mil for Camara, £2.5 mil for Dovin, £3-4 mil for a LB, £8 mil combined for 3 quality signings, would make us a real force to be reckoned with.

Why would we sign another LB, we will have 3 then.

Because Bidwell is okay but not amazing, and is getting older, and JDS is poo defensively. Okay, wages are an issue but I really think we could do with an upgrade at LB. It’s a continual debate on here so if you disagree, that’s fine, you win, I can’t be arsed to go into the same debate again, nothing personal I just get fed up of arguing on here 😭😂

And we have the potential for a transfer bomb. According to Sportbladet, Coventry City has chosen Hammarby IF goalkeeper Oliver Dovin as its main transfer target 🇸🇪

The Swede was born in London and is one of the most talented goalkeepers in the country. Valued at EUR 2.5 million.

Haven't we been here before with Stamenic. 🤔

You would look to move on Dasilva. Bidwell himself isn’t really what we’re looking for but defensively can be trusted. If MVE isn’t available we’re also struggling to cover him.

As poor as Collins was, we made the playoff final with Ben Wilson in goal. What’s in front of the keeper matters more in my view.

Agree with all of that, although I’m not sure how we go about moving JDS on, can we just say to him that you’re not going to be playing much and therefore he’ll want to move on himself? Or is there way of cancelling a contract? Only asking as I’m genuinely interested, I’ve never really looked much into how contracts are terminated and I think it would be really beneficial if we could do that with JDS’s contract as I believe he makes us weaker when he comes on.

Well we've got MvE at RB, so as long as he doesn't get injured another RB isn't playing.
Bidwell is steady enough on the left to be a starter.
Midfield we've got Sheaf and Eccles, with the likes of Torp, Rudoni, Palmer and Allen (+ maybe EMC) to play more attacking.
In goal we've got Wilson or Collins.

I think I know out of all of them which is the most pressing need for a first team slot.

No you can't just cancel a player's contract for no reason other than you don't rate them. Btw Dasilva is nowhere near as bad as some say.

However , beyond goalkeeper left back is our weakest position. This is the problem with signing so many on four year contracts. It limits room for flexibility. Three senior left backs on permanent contracts is not really too realistic.

He likely wont want to move on because no one will offer him a 3 year deal on the money we’re paying.

To terminate we’d have to reach an agreement with him, which would involve paying him money.

Let’s say he’s on 10k a week, 10000*52*3 =£1.5m. We’d probably have to pay him a million quid at least to leave.

I'm confident we will get a good keeper in over the summer. It's the one position where i think we can guarantee regular starts, which is surely attractive.

Still need a CM. That gaping hole left by Hamer is still there.

I’m most worried about our back line at the moment, that and our backup striker. We desperately need a rock solid veteran like Worrall but we know that’s not happening. Still no word on MVE backup either, really just not convinced of Lati in that role. Really don’t want to mess up our back up striker signing either. Busy month ahead, can see us making 3 signings minimum, maybe 4.

Pretty much agree. To me it is GK, CB and a forward. I think Jack Burroughs will be assessed over the first few friendlies to see if he could cover the right side and if not we will buy. Then that leaves CM, but it is the right player and the right price. Not sure about loans for any of the positions as apart from GK not sure we could guarantee a starting position.

Again you’re just thinking of the starting 11. MVE really struggled playing every week as did Bidwell. Beyond them you’ve got huge defensive liabilities in Dasilva and Lati.
