Yeah, just been talking about this in the office. Horrendous, apparently had been spoken to by the FBI on a number of occasions too.

Donald Trump has been trying to exploit it on Twitter

Yeah saw on the news that they knew about him after he said some strange things to a work colleague.

It had one of the texts one of the people were sending to their mum who was outside, can't imagine how that must have felt :(

They are trying to dress it up as Islamic terrorism (to avoid having to look in the mirror), but the issue is that he was nothing more than a homophobic (mentally-unstable, according to his ex-wife) lunatic, with all-too-easy access to massive arsenals of weaponry at short notice.

I think they need to start looking at gun laws.

I watched a documentary about a black power group, they had huge assault rifles and all sorts and they could walk the streets with them like it was normal. In their cars they had 4 or 5 guns in the glove box.

I know banning guns like here won't ever stop shootings, but it would surely cut it down?

Australian comedian Jim Jefferies's observations on US gun control are worth a watch -

Seems like another person with mental health problems, for whom care in America is very poor, known to the FBI, but not particularly for being a potential terrorist, was allowed to go and buy guns.

There's been more mass shootings in a week in America than there has been in 50 years in the UK. The number of gun deaths per head in the US is way higher than any other developed wealthy country yet a large percentage of their population refuse to acknowledge there's even a problem.

Also moaning about the government clamping down on hate speeches, but in this case he is talking about preachers being persecuted for talking about homosexuality as an abomination and disgusting and sick and deprived.

It's lovely that being a Christian is all about peace and love and harmony isn't it.

They should allow guns to go to his house and shoot him.

Do people really film themselves saying stuff like that? Jeez!

Didn't watch all of it, Nick, but just revisited it and it's a real head shaker. Seems this guy believes every single homosexual is a paedophile. Talks of 50 paedophiles now no longer being able to abuse children.

Just how ignorant is he of the actual facts about paedophiles and what sort of people in reality they are?

Have no sound, but what's he saying?

"In a video message posted yesterday, virulently anti-LGBT pastor Steven Anderson reacted to the terrorist attack at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, by happily announcing that "there's 50 less pedophiles in this world."

"These homosexuals are a bunch of perverts and pedophiles, that's who was a victim here, a bunch of disgusting homosexuals at a gay bar," he said. He later added: "The good news is that at least 50 of these pedophiles are not going to be harming children anymore. The bad news is that a lot of the homos in the bar are still alive, so they're going to continue to molest children and recruit people into their filthy homosexual lifestyle."

Anderson explained that he didn't approve of the shooter's actions ... but only because he thinks the victims should have been put to death by the government. "These people all should have been killed anyway, but they should have been killed through the proper channels, as in, they should've been executed by a righteous government," he said.

Anderson said that gun owners and pastors are the real victims of the tragedy, predicting that the government will use the massacre as an opportunity to confiscate firearms, demonize Christians and outlaw hateful speech.

At the end of the day, Anderson said, the victims were on their way to an early death from AIDS and syphilis anyway."

Always see it on documentaries with the redneck types.

Just needs to be put down I think.

It's also the 'Islam is an evil, false, wicked religion but fair play to him as he's killed a load of paedos' stance that is honestly totally beyond me.

Heard earlier the wife knew about him planning it and tried to talk him out of it. Hope she enjoys jail.

Feel sorry for the kids if they have any, hopefully they will grow up in a better environment.

Also heard the guy was in the closet, always turns out that some of the people who hate gay people usually are because they can't accept it.

this has little to do with islam. It's a mentally ill man who was known to the authorities but still had access to some serious weaponry.

But as long as the American authorities can blame ISIS they don't have to face up to the reality that the root cause are their gun laws and their obsession with guns.

On top of the 50 people killed in Orlando a further 93 people were shot and killed in the USA over the weekend.

It's madness how people can legally buy things like this and walk down the street with them

I don't know whether to find his words laughable or extreme ignorance or dangerous, perhaps all the above....however, if the bible says so, then it must be true........right?

"Guns rights" is a very powerful mentality over here in the U.S. The concept of gun ownership rights is a very normal expectation, and ensconced (rightly or wrongly interpreted, depending on point of view) in the U.S. constitution.

Gun control legislation has been a battle for decades, there will be no consensus anytime soon. Moreover, unless and until guns rights advocates have internal cultural shifts, the guncontrol cconversation doesn't get very far.

For better or for worse, many people in the U.S. believe the right to own firearms is as just an important civil right as freedom of religion or speech. Liberty = guns.

Disclaimer: only trying to provide a broad overall "American" perspective on the concept of gun ownership, control, and how it is interwoven throughout the general American history in regards to constitutional rights and liberty. My comments are not intended to be an endorsement of said concept, merely instructive/educational.

I totally take on board that you're only giving a general perspective of the situation in the US, but the part (for the general populace) that I just can't get my head around is that "The concept of gun ownership rights is a very normal expectation".

It definitely a cultural thing and I'm not blind to the fact there are guns held both legitimately and illegally in the UK, but I honestly feel safer in the knowledge that this is the exception rather than the norm.

I also don't buy that it's about constitutional rights - more the gun manufacturers making vast amounts of money and paying/sponsoring the gun lobbies to ensure that they keep pedalling the 'it's our God given right' mentality.

What an absolute wanker
Cannot in any fashion believe predudice views of this nature get air time.

There are sovereign loyalties across the world, that must condemn this. I say this as an antipipedean, that shall never except this rhetoric from our kind

I agree in a very broad sense. One of the prevailing subjects of debate is the exact wording/phrasing of the U.S. constitution's 2nd Amendment --- "a well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed"
Thats the entire wording, and obciously open to very wild interpretations. In any case, it remains the last (from what I recall) of the first 10 amendments (the Bill of Rights) never to be directly addressed for Interpretation by the Supreme Court.

Its a hot potato no one wants to touch.

At the end of the day, however, the only way to stop mass killings, terrorist attacks, random violence, etc. is to convince people not to be violent at all. Whether its guns, knives, bombs, sticks, fists, violence is a horrible human condition

Oh, also, just for clarification, most people here in US do not own a gun. The oajority that do own guns may have one or two strictly for hunting, and the rest have a hard on for owning many guns in "self defense" and liberty.

Frustrated Muslim homosexual, forced into heterosexual relationship he didn't want, living in a free country that allowed him to express his sexuality, might get caught, can't handle the shame, kill everybody, ticket to paradise. All religions are bullshit, but not quite as bullshit as Islam.
