Our Away support v The Championship (2 Viewers)

Here is a league table of averge away support in the Championship after 10 away games. If anyone could give our figures for this season it would be interesting to see where we fit in. . Bearing in mind some of our away matches have had a limited away capacity that was over subscribed . Looking at this table , our support is pretty incredible. We're in division 4.

Yeah, it's still very strong.

However, it seems we've dropped to a core of no more than 1500/1600 away from home. We should have taken a few more yesterday considering.

The CET ran a story on this a few weeks back but I can't seem to find it now. Was the same as This, L2 average away following. We were top followed closely by lincoln who were followed closely by Luton.
Can't remember exact figures but I think we were around the 1500 mark so would put us near the Blues, Derbys and Norwichs. Which you'd expect as they are all similar sized clubs/cities to ourselves.

In our away following though this season I think we'll be handicapped by Lincoln and Luton as they limited us to 1500 and 1000 tickets respectively whereas I can see both teams bringing 2000+ in the reverse fixtures!

We took 1697 yesterday, it was an all ticket match with 1700 tickets given! So yes we should of took more yesterday considering, all 3 of them

I remember Sheffield Weds 4 Coventry 3 in the Prem, when Dion scored a hat-trick . I listened to the match live on the BBC , who were constantly reminding us all that there were officially 49 Coventry fans there. How times have changed , in many ways.

Smallest I think I’ve been in was about 140 at Burnley. Everyone got given a scarf for their trouble.

I went to see us play at Arsenal in the mid 70's when Alan Ball was playing. A hiding was on the cards before the game & that was the outcome. Cant remember if it was 5 or 6 but it was enough... I think we managed to muster around 10 fans !

If we got to the prem I feel first season be packed nearly every home game if we stayed up eventually each season numbers go down unless we were pushing for something, I pray to god some day in the future were back in the prem God please give us a miracle we've been through enough ha!

Just shows we do have great support if we start going back up.

I went to an away game at Leeds with a friend from school, early Feb, season 68/69, we lost 3-0 (Clarke, Bremner, Giles, Hunter, Charlton etc). We stood with the 50 or so City fans that were there, and towards the end of the game, a load of Leeds fans came from their shed end (as happened at every game in those days, prior to segregation) and jumped the City fans from behind. To a man (apart from me and my friend -well we were only 13!) the City fans turned and laid into them, boots and fists flying, no fear! Queue Leeds fans backing off, allowing City fans to melt away into the night. My memory tells me that the famous Hatchet may well have been present! I know that this kind of thing shouldn’t happen, but I have to say I was very proud of the small number of Cov fans that night.

We drew 0-0 at Old Trafford in 1980, and our pen felt very empty and lonely. With 40,000 Mancunians chanting at us, we needed good humour to get us through. It seemed like we had about 50 at the time, but I dare say it was more like a couple of hundred. Surprising I know, but we didn’t always get a great following considering the level of football that was on offer. In those youthful days I used to go to nearly every game, home and away. Crowds at Highfield Road were typically about 15,000 that season, with the occasional much bigger gate.

I think people were spoilt by a couple of brilliant Hutchison/Ferguson/Wallace seasons, and when the entertainment went downhill so did the attendances. Then Jimmy Hill made it all-seater (with the Kop replaced by a bunch of plastic seats out in the open), and the numbers dropped further. The yo-yo level of support for top flight football was frustrating to me at the time, and seems criminal now. Thankfully Sillett and Curtis came along to change the atmosphere, and give us the best day ever.

My fanatical days are pretty much over, and there’s no way I’m going to watch fourth-tier matches at places like Chesterfield. But fair play to the travelling army - the numbers are impressive and may you have plenty of cracking away days.

I remember that game for the reason it's definitely the lowest City away following I've ever been involved in & at the end of the game with the tunnel being behind the goal my mate asked Rohan Ricketts for his shirt, he said yeah 2 minutes, 10 minutes later and me trying to drag my mate out as he hadn't returned and I was in fear of missing the coach! (He never got a Rohan Ricketts shirt.....luckily!)

I was at that game and I remeber that we had a few hundred there. 49 indeed. The worse turmnout I can remember was a really cold winters day in Sunderland when around 100 at best turned up.

The Sheff. Wed game was a night midweek match that was televised. I remember watching it at the old GEC club. As midweek and televised it was not surprising that the away support was down.
I do wonder if Ifollow will start to hit away attendances. I thought it was only for fans overseas but there are obviously Coventry based people watching judging from comments on here.

My family & I were most likely there (I'd have been 7 at the time so can't remember). We used to go to every home/away game.
I've still got the scars & chills from going to Aberdeen during pre-season.
