First half an hour Allen was the best player on the pitch by a distance. Lovely disguised pass for Shipley when he blazed over the bar. Wasn't really involved after that though.Given our financial constraints I would keep Allen. He seems like a decent squad player and provides cover for O'Hare. He seems like a good personality to have around. Robins has alluded to this previously and giving him the captaincy tonight is another pointer. Even though he didn't come off the bench v Forest he was ecstatic at the end when celebrating with the players. You need these people around.
Was never our player and you need money which we don’t have.We didn’t have the balls to go and get osti
Drysdale is the same age as Ostigard, which shows how far behind he is in terms of his development, also we are rumoured to be bringing in a 23 year old centre half who will be going straight into the first team match day squad ahead of Drysdale.I didn't realise that Drysdale was only 21 so there is room for an improvement I guess but, and this is nothing personal, Shipley is surely blowing his career away with lacklustre/poor performances, the guy has a great shot on him when he appears he wants to be bothered but he just keeps wasting opportunities time after time and with the likes of Jobello Hilsner and co are costing the club their combined wages for us to enable bringing in hopefully a decent player but as we all know if you keep shopping in the bargain basement those goods are not going to last long!!!
For context when McFadzean was 20-23 he played for Alfreton Town. Players develop at different rates. Drysdale may or may not be good enough. But just because he's not an automatic starter in the Championship at 21 doesn't mean he can't be in the future.Drysdale is the same age as Ostigard, which shows how far behind he is in terms of his development, also we are rumoured to be bringing in a 23 year old centre half who will be going straight into the first team match day squad ahead of Drysdale.
If I was Drysdale, I'd be very worried about my future right now.
It's not just his age that's the issue, it's the fact that he's going backwards, and appears to be further than ever away from challenging for a first team place. For context when McFadzean was 20-23 he played for Alfreton Town. This is what I was trying to say but failed. Sam Mcallum at 17 was playing for Herne Bay, Maatson at 17 was playing for Charlton, so what? For context when McFadzean was 20-23 he played for Alfreton Town. Players develop at different rates. I am pretty sure we would if we could. League 1 and 2 clubs don't have the money to take on players like theseNeed to shift the deadwood and replace which I think robins knows it.the sooner the better.
So it seems this evening has reinforced the fact our squad depth is lacking.
We all know we need some outs to get more than the 2 in that MR wants. But who would take any of them?
For example:
Allen - you'd think a decent L1 side.
Pask - Same as Allen
Shipley - See above
Drysdale - league 2?
Hillsner, Jobello i think we would struggle to find any takers for them two.
Frustrating thing is the wages of thek lot combined could get us a very very good CM or CB for this league ( on top of the 2 loans MR has lined up)
We need to hope we stay relatively injury free, because can anyone really see us shifting any of these?
He's nearly 24, he's played in the 1st team for 5 years and hasn't improved all that much, where do you draw the line?Get Shipley out on loan in L1. He's homegrown so I wouldn't want to bin him off completely, but get him consistent games and see if he can improve.
Debacle?Allen is the one player to come out of Northampton debacle ok.

After another season in L1. Get him out of his comfort zone and see if he sinks or swims. Then we'll know if he has what it takes to step up.He's nearly 24, he's played in the 1st team for 5 years and hasn't improved all that much, where do you draw the line?
Exactly. To be honest if I had the chance to play for City I would run my socks off. What annoys me is when MR praises Allen for 'running his socks off' - Is that worth praise? Isn't that a minimum expectation!?

He may be using him as an example to other younger guys last night who perhaps didn't put in as much effort? What annoys me is when MR praises Allen for 'running his socks off' - Is that worth praise? Isn't that a minimum expectation!?
Debacle?
Our second string lost 2-1 in the league cup
Oggy said in commentary that Shipley thought he was offside.
The writing was on the wall in the preseason I'm sorry to say - those who said it didn't matter, misread the tea leaves.
Fair play. I suppose a lot of what is said is aimed at others too. I notice his comments on Drysdale were pretty damming (I'm a fan of DD i'm sure that's coming across) but he said something like 'he needs to understand defending which at times, it looked like he didn't'He may be using him as an example to other younger guys last night who perhaps didn't put in as much effort?
