I'm not being funny, but if I was earning thousands of pounds every week and I knew the budget was tight, I'd be paying for my hotel room myself.
£70-£80 for one night occasionally out of my multiple thousands per week? Hardly going to make a dent now is it!
I'm not so sure if our players are on multiple thousands of pounds per week at the moment tbh. One or two of them possibly? But I take your point, the occasional hotel stay is affordable to them.
Unfortunately this is not the real world is it.
tbf, not entirely sure it'd be ideal prep for a game to stay at a B&B with the stag parties...
At least it suggests we still have some cash
Sounds like an interesting job Weeman, Whats the biggest club you've booked for?
Thats the point Mowbray was making staying overnight pre-match was a better preperation than 2/3 hours on a coach it is more than that though preparing in a pro football manner is the right way to do things, if skyblueweeman is correct on it costing around £2k for a team to stay over night somewhere, thats just a 100 fans at £20 over Waggott's wish for 11000 gate. Making this public has me wondering if he has dropped it out for a reason, as for Otis's they could pay for themselves, you couldn't make that up.Looking at this map, there is only possibly 3 or 4 L1 clubs that would require same, (Blackpol & maybe Scunthorpe, Southend, Gillingham), everywhere else isn't so hard to get to, less than 2 1/2 hrs by coach I reckon.

If CCFC stayed over every away game what do you reckon the total bill would be ?I look after 88 of the 92 clubs and a colleague looks after the other 4 (as he has contacts at those). About 85% of clubs book through 3rd party agents whom I also manage but of those I look after direct, 4 of them are top PL clubs.
Keeps me out of trouble!

Fair comment Rupert. I guess that the more we get through the doors, the less impact overnight stays would have on the playing budget if the money is coming from that pot of cash.
I've booked tickets to my first game of the season, away at Swindon. Every little helps and all that!
It helps Swindon I guess.
Premier League players are horrendously spoiled with their travelm arrangements, many fly by private jet the day before a game, West Brom for instance will fly on a jet to Southampton on a Friday from Birmingham for a Saturday kick-off, when it's only a 2 hour journey by coach.
Their team coach will travel down seperately to meet them with the kit etc, and take them to the hotel, possibly having taken less overall time travelling than the players have.
That's more the exception than the rule I'd say though LS. I've seen an increase in rail travel. With the same thing though...the team coach picks them up at their arrival point and transports them to the hotel.
And it's mainly Prem teams only who would do this...I guess the likes of Plymouth and Carlisle might have deals with regional airlines for their needs.
There's only Walsall, Burton and perhaps Port Vale where journeys take under an hour, we all know what the M6 is like and there are a number of games around the Manchester area and another group in Yorkshire, my beef is any cost to an over night stay should not come out of the manager's budget, thats tight enough, especially as we are exceeding the wish for attendances every home game.
See it quite a lot out of BHX, Chelsea will fly upm here from STN the day before a game against any of the Midlands sides, Villa and West Brom will fly to NCL for Newcastle, Sunderland, and vice versa. Norwich also a day before flight from BHX.
Know that Arsenal charter a special train, but many seem to fly, which would be fair enough on the day, but the day before?
Only Prem, or very recently ex-prem teams dom it though, and doubt if we've done much in the way of overnight stays before a game since we got relegated from the top flight.
Remmeber us winning away at QPR one year when we only got to the ground 20 minutes before kick-off because the coach got stuck in traffic and the team had to get to Loftus Road on the tube following Tabb's knowledge of the Underground!
Adebola scored in a 1-0 win from what I remember.
I know that we don't but if we did, simple maths would say at £2k an average...actually, scrap that, probably £1.5k average for an average L1 team, then over 23 away games, you're looking at just under £35k per season. But then you have to factor in any transport costs as well as away ties in the cups.
Also, clubs at L1/L2 level tend not to do overnighters for games against clubs located in a similar geographic area. They might even have a Pre-Match Meal at Ryton etc. I suspect that for the games against Burton and Walsall, we would've travelled on the day and maybe had a PMM at the training ground. I don't know that for sure but suspect if we are prudent with our case nowadays, that's what I'd be doing.
Edit: and just to clarify, figures mentioned are ex VAT.

You're a chambermaid. Admit it. Stop showing off.
Whilst staying at Wychwood Park in Cheshire sometime last season, I spotted the Sheffield United squad who were there from mid-morning in readiness for a night game against Crewe. They must have a generous budget as the distance from Sheffield to Crewe is not great, and the hotel is a 4 star De Vere venue within a gated community - not exactly slumming it.
Good luck to those that have the budget to do it.
