Which “golden boys” of City players, past and present, do you think have inflated worths?

For me - Michael Doyle. Clogger whose penchant for bookings/ sending offs masked his limited ability.

To a lesser extent, Dean Emerson always seemed to have got a lot of praise. Was just a teenager in his pomp, but never saw it myself. Always injured and had a terrible moustache.

Well straight off the bat, Emerson was outstanding.

Doyle was significant as a leader more than a player. His influence 2nd time around absolutely crucial and also wouldn't have got McNulty without him. Did he get sent off much for us? At all in his second spell? I can't recall it if he did.

Don't mean I don't rate them. Just feel they are most overrated by our fans that's all. You can see it in match ratings. Bare minimum is more likely to see a 7 given than got someone else for example

Emerson was,a superb player, though never the same after his injury. It would have been inertesting to see where his career took him that hadn't happened.

Agree about Doyle. Unable to pass to a player wearing the same coloured shirt as him

Right now?

Bidwell
Sakamoto

I’d have included Bassette a few weeks ago but the public opinion on him has changed quite a lot.

Coventry

Doyle was over rated but wore his heart on his sleeve that got him fan adulation.

Emerson was really class. Always injured? Wasn't it just one career ending injury he could not come back from?

That said never questioned the commitment of anyone on the list. Also as a club we progressed fast through the leagues and that exposed one or two to scrutiny that they would not have got had we remained in league 1 etc.

Was about to flip out at this shout but then the below even worse one came along!

Treason!

I mean, in a thread called over rated players most choices are going to raise a few eyebrows andI appreciate I'm in a minority but genuinely never thought much of Thompson.

Was surprised to see McCallister named right enough.

Fair dos re Emerson. Don’t remember watching him in too many games, but happy to take the opinion of more seasoned watchers than me.

I liked Konjic at the time, but upon reflection his “surging runs” upfield resulted in nothing and often left us exposed at the back.

Over rated players but only by Bobby Gould...

Graham Withey
John Gayle
How John Gayle played for so many clubs I will never know. The most unnatural footballer I have ever seen. A doorman in concrete boots.

Best game big Mo had was when he played for Derby on the last day at HR agent Ko worked a treat that day.

Yes he was, he was being tipped to be chosen for the England squad before that Megson f*** him up.

Know someone who played with Gayle at blues.
There were certain training drills he couldn't join in with because he simply couldn't execute them he was that poor.

For much of his time he literally only had one player ahead of him moving, most of the team was static

The arrival of the Morrocans and Robbie Keane was a game changer.
Was Keane’s time his last season of his contract when he was playing to get away? He did some stunning things like his goal against Derby ? But it all felt like he coasted through his time here.
