Overrated players.

Listening to a podcast on Under the Cosh, they were interviewing Mark Hateley.

I didn't realise before he join the Sky Blues he was having a trial at Nottingham forest, then one day Brian Clough called him into the his office and said, Young Man you'll never make it as a footballer go and work in a supermarket 🤣

So when Mark told his dad Tony Hateley, a legend at Liverpool, who had played for the Sky Blues, phoned Gordon Milne who also played in the same side at Liverpool with Tony Hateley and was at the time the Sky Blues manager and ask Gordon if he would give him a trial, Gordon didn't bother with a trial just signed him up immediately and the rest is history.

Just shows Brian Clough didn't get it right all the time.

Bukayo Saka when he plays for England. Looks great for Arsenal but performances for England makes him seem over rated

Dion Dublin, for me, is strangely underrated.

Villa move soured the memory for a lot of people, including myself at the time. Imagine having a player like that now - goalscorer, leader and more than capable CD?

Robbie Keane seems to have this exalted status based on 13 PL goals and never being involved in an away win.
Yeah agree with that. Unfortunately some will just not let go of the Villa nonsense stuff that will undermine just what a colossus Dublin was for us during his time here.

Left back was an area we had trouble with. Downs, Morgan, Edwards, Burrows, Sansom. We were weak there for a while
Burrows was a strange one-only had one season at West Ham and then Everton before coming to us. Them 2 clubs obviously didn’t rate him it seems.

I liked David Burrows especially after we drew 0-0 at Blackburn when Dion was wrongly sent off. Tim Sherwood tried to intimidate Burrows and was in his face but Burrows never took a step back

He definitely got on the pitch. I remember seeing us lose 4-1 at QPR in 2004. Him and Staunton both played and were shit. Sherwood just did nothing. Staunton was trying in fairness but in the end, I had to cover my eyes when he started running. So slow is was frightening.

That was the game where Sherwood was so poor, he was on a yellow card , committed another foul ,and most of our fans were shouting at the ref to send him off. He was that shite.

I certainly remember him getting a lot of richly deserved abuse. For a player of his standing, it was a shocking performance.

“Of his standing?”

IIRC he counting feel his feet when standing up.

We actually gave wages to a player who could hardly stand up.

And we moan now?

As I say to the kids: “don’t know how lucky you are”.

Sound like my dad.
