He had 1 good season for us out of 4 mainly because he was finally fit and also the introduction of Carlton Palmer helped him. The previous 3 seasons he was poor although he had a knee injury which he should have had operated on but he didn't want to miss 1998 WC.For much of his time he literally only had one player ahead of him moving, most of the team was static
The arrival of the Morrocans and Robbie Keane was a game changer.
Was going to say him and this will upset a few Gary BreenPaul Williams. Lackadaisical clogger who was nowhere near as good as he thought he was.
This is getting silly now. We all have opinions but after seeing Hadji, Gary Mac and Thompson on here with some of the dross that's played for us, I only need Robbie Keane to shout bingo!
Emerson had the potential to be a really good player until that dirty bastard crocked him.
I was also thereYeah I was at that game against Sheffield Wednesday at Highfield Road.
If anyone wants to know how bad it was and hasn't seen it, it's like watching the Leeds team back in the 70s.
And if you haven't seen how Leeds played in the 70s go on YouTube and have a look.
I hated Telfer absolutely terrible footballerPaul Telfer..overated by Strachan.
How he played 100s of premier league games..
Can remember his debut against Man City at home. Swelteringly hot night and he sprayed passes around at will (memory may be playing tricks with me).Isais. Was so excited we were getting a Brazilian. Shouldn't have been.
Match ratings threads are pointless. People just rate their favourites higher and knock a point or two off those they dislike.Eccles

Of the current lot
Don't mean I don't rate them. Just feel they are most overrated by our fans that's all. You can see it in match ratings. Bare minimum is more likely to see a 7 given than got someone else for example
Emerson was brilliant when he joined, same as Roy Barry. Both never recovered from broken legs, so unfair to single Emerson out.Which “golden boys” of City players, past and present, do you think have inflated worths?
For me - Michael Doyle. Clogger whose penchant for bookings/ sending offs masked his limited ability.
To a lesser extent, Dean Emerson always seemed to have got a lot of praise. Was just a teenager in his pomp, but never saw it myself. Always injured and had a terrible moustache.
Did he score at the riverside I was there but my memory plays tricksCan remember his debut against Man City at home. Swelteringly hot night and he sprayed passes around at will (memory may be playing tricks with me).
He had an outrageous attempt at goal - a shot, without any back-lift, which just went wide.
This was exciting fodder for someone who had endured Julian Darby in midfield for several seasons.
Did he score at the riverside...
I’ve only been once and it was pretty unwelcoming they said go straight in the ground if you go for a drink locally you will get beat up. We didn’t have a massive following that day from memory. He did. Terrible game. Sh*thole new ground. Only moment of the game I remember is him scoring.
Somewhat agree and thats fair, but I expected it to be more full of wide type players. Ohare springs to mind of course, David Bell, Leigh Jenkinson a couple more. It’s tricky to be fair. Saying players who were shit is easy.
I expected little for players like that same with Graham Withey and many othersSomewhat agree and thats fair, but I expected it to be more full of wide type players. Ohare springs to mind of course, David Bell, Leigh Jenkinson a couple more.
Huge case of unfulfilled potential was Whelan, if i remember rightly he got used in midfield alot but ive always thought of him as a striker/support striker.Probably going to get a slap for this but I’d say Ndlovu and Whealen.
Both could pull out bits of unbelievable magic and the talent was there for all to see but neither were consistent and had long dry spells of doing fuck all.
Neither were exactly over-rated, because they were both exceptional talents, but they didn't realise their potential.Probably going to get a slap for this but I’d say Ndlovu and Whealen.

Thought about him but wasn’t he just not fit?Jose Perdomo

Came with a big reputation unfortunately his gut was as big.Thought about him but wasn’t he just not fit?
I actually told Strachan to his face at the fruit and veg shop in cannon park that telfer was shit and he had an unhealthy obsession with himPaul Telfer..overated by Strachan.

I was in the Skyblue Terrace right near him, as he sat on the sidelines ‘injured’. Limped off to an ovation never to be seen again!Came with a big reputation unfortunately his gut was as big.

That said never questioned the commitment of anyone on the list. Also as a club we progressed fast through the leagues and that exposed one or two to scrutiny that they would not have got had we remained in league 1 etc.
Not before he left for Brum. 17 goals from the left that year.
Till he got that nasty injury, Emerson was brilliant.Which “golden boys” of City players, past and present, do you think have inflated worths?
