Reminded me of Viktor when he first came here on loanDeserved win.
I thought we looked ok all in all. Both BTA and EMC need to be more aware of what's around them, both play with their head down at times especially the former. Bassette looked likely and rapid, the understanding and timing of passes/runs isn't there yet but very encouraging debut.
Eccles was the only player playing it forward first halfbearing in mind we were playing an Oxford 2nd string in a Mickey Mouse cup that nobody really cares about if we’re being honest….
Eccles was poor, too many mistakes, poor passes, once in particular lost the ball, gave up the chase back then threw his hands up and blamed Lats after he’d got him out the shit. EMC was average on the right, much better on the left, Lati isn’t a RB, BTA looked lively and willing to shoot - better in the centre I thought, KP very good, JDS was great, and when MVE, Tats and Sheaf came on they stood out head and shoulders above - Norm played well too
Sheaf to start on the weekend, hopefully alongside Rudoni, and I guess Torp or KP a bit further forward, although to be fair EMC or BTA could possibly both play there too at a push
Eccles was the only player playing it forward first half
According to FOTMOB app he made the most accurate passes of any player. His accuracy was the same as the whole team (86%). Just 2% higher than Sheaf.Really? You thought Thomas looked good tonight ?
He looks low on confidence and his passing is so erratic.
Eccles played a lot of threatening balls first half , Allen linked up well and KP was trying to break down Oxford . Eccles really wasn't poor at allnot sure I can entirely agree with that - and if the ball doesn’t go to one of our players it’s a fairly irrelevant point anyway…
KP, and even Allen were pretty progressive with their passes, and the centre halves were also playing some pretty decent balls forward too
I don't do stats or claim to know much about the data side but I would guess the majority of his successful passes were to KitchingAccording to FOTMOB app he made the most accurate passes of any player. His accuracy was the same as the whole team (86%). Just 2% higher than Sheaf.
Said very very similar to my mate after the game. He hasnt got the same brute power as Gyokores but maybe as he fills out a bit more that might develop. He certainly looks a promising signing and looks confident running at defendersReminded me of Viktor when he first came here on loan
Said that about Torp . It looked like he grew 6 inches alongside Sheaf and tackled hard , tracked back and made himself available moreSheaf changes everything, you will see everyone around him look taller. You could see Torp and Mason Clark look different. Its great to have him back, get another player in of the same level we will be a scary squad.
Am I mis-reading this? Surely if his accuracy was the same as the whole team i.e. the team average, then there must be someone in the team with a higher accuracy?According to FOTMOB app he made the most accurate passes of any player. That's fair enough .agree to disagree - I thought, considering the team we were up against, I expected a lot more, but that’s just my opinion, I didn’t rate his performance tonight and thought he was the poorest player in our team noticeably
Don’t have an obsession, just don’t think Lati is good enough on the ball for the level we’re aiming to be.Are you and Grendel related ? You have a really weird obsession with putting Lati down constantly.
Lati is playing better than Thomas at this stage of the season
Yes, there were several whose % was higher - but they made less passes.Am I mis-reading this? Surely if his accuracy was the same as the whole team i.e. the team average, then there must be someone in the team with a higher accuracy?
That's fair and I tend to agree .Don’t have an obsession, just don’t think Lati is good enough on the ball for the level we’re aiming to be.
Eccles was a lot better 1st half than 2nd but was still slagged by the usual at ht

To be fair Eccles started with our second string and Sheaf came on late with more of the first team players on the pitch .I think the thing is, that is a game he really needs to be dominating if he’s to be taken seriously as a first choice top quality midfielder, and yet he didn’t - and that’s against a poor side’s second string, yet as soon as Sheaf came on there was a massive noticeable difference, not only in terms of the player’s performance, but also those around him
There were some people here saying Eccles is on a par with / better than Sheaf, and Eccles would walk into most championship teams / lower league prem etc…. not on that performance.
I like the kid but he does need to improve and become far more consistent
My theory on Lati is Robins is using him more at the moment for his leadership, as he's an experienced talker and organiser from his youth career at Man City. Particularly at a time when we have new players and are trying to play a new system. He used him a lot at the start of last season too when we had loads of new signings. Once everyone has settled down into the club and new system, and with Sheaf back fully I'm sure he'll revert back to using Thomas more in that position. That's fair and I tend to agree .
Like I said I don't sit in a camp that just doesn't like a player . Thomas is struggling currently in my opinion and Lati has been playing better centrally. Robins obviously trusts him to as he makes him captain.
Personally want to see Thomas and Kitching back to last season's highs as on form they are our best two centre backs
I think he's trying to put the emphasis on the players . He wants them to be braver , be more cohesive and play on the front foot .Robins more critical of the players so far this season (tonight again)than I have ever heard him.
Is he feeling a bit of pressure?
Reading between the lines, players aren't doing/or can't do what he wants them to do.
Worth a listen again on CWR.
Both Kitching and DaSilva must be very close to starting against NorwichI know the contexts are different and it’s not a 100% fair comparison… it is interesting that we kept 2 clean sheets with Thomas and Kitching in the same fixtures Lati and Binks conceded 3 goals.
It must certainly be food for thought with Robins.
Not 100% on JDS but Kitching absolutely. Thomas can consider himself unlucky because for all his bad distribution v Stoke, defensively I thought he was better than Binks. Both Kitching and DaSilva must be very close to starting against Norwich
For me Kitching is , and always has been , our best centre back by some distance. Not 100% on JDS but Kitching absolutely. Thomas can consider himself unlucky because for all his bad distribution v Stoke, defensively I thought he was better than Binks.
Binks is our youngest defender and feel he could develop into a top Championship / decent Prem CB. Atm, I feel like he’s our weakest defender alongside Lati.
There’s not enough data to hand to back this up, but the ‘eye test’ through my lense is that Thomas and Kitching deal with threats more decisively.
