Really? My daughter's schools never have. Only any felt tips or crayons and them only of you wanted to as an extra. All those things would be supplied anyway as a norm. Always had the schools give out the pens and pencils.

Yeah, we have had to buy a scientific calculator and a compass etc. and that's fine, but never pens and pencils. My daughter has now been at three schools and has never had to pay for pens or pencils or any stationery unless it is something specific akin to the two items above.

I've not really had much of an issue with it, you can get pencils in bulk off ebay pretty cheap, same with pens.
Then a couple of fancy ones from Smiggle for christmas / birthday etc.
That wasn't the school saying "you need to pay us for them" it was a "here's the things you need to get list"

When did schools ever provide pens? Some (if not all) stationary yes, text books yes (do students even use text books any more?) but not pens.
I'm sure any enterprising parent can acquire what's needed from their workplace :emoji_santa:

Surely they wont need pens if they're using the school supplied, education authority purchased I-Pads for lessons?

nearly 60 grand for 1 small primary schools stationary......for 1 school year.......and thats just to help with their funding shortage ffs...
I'm guessing they must have the same supplier network as the NHS!
I'm all for properly funded schools, hospitals etc., but its also about time those funds were properly spent......disgraceful waste if those figures are anywhere near correct.....

Exercise books and all that has been free but pens and pencils and calculators and rulers etc you bring your own and that was 15 years ago for me.

Calculators and rulers, yes, pens and pencils, no, for us.
My parents always used to have to provide pens, pencils, calculators and what not. We would get the text books and notebooks to write in at no cost. We also got free stationary from the technology class as it was often posh paper, coloured card and more expensive type stuff. I used to rob it blind and sell it on to classmates.

It's a bit strange this, when I was at school we bought our own and we have always bought our children's? And £1 a day? you can get a pack of 50 for a quid in the pound shop!

Fucking hell Ill stop whining at the shot they ask for at my daughters school then.
We never even brought a pen let alone buy our own. Not until the last couple of years when everyone wanted a pencil case.
I’ve never asked kids to provide when I was a teacher. Though I did teach IT so maybe that’s understandable.
