It was, I believe, deliberate because there was a 'green travel plan' which had to be in place for all major events.

I seem to recall the original plan involved a shuttle train which obviously never happened but there was initially buses from all over the city to games as well as park and ride.

I used to park at the business park by JLR and there was park and ride from there which worked brilliantly.

Of course it all stopped over time and nobody really questioned it. I guess as we were busy falling down the divisions nobody really gave a shit.
I wonder how many green travel plans ever worked. Pretty sure there was one for the hospital, that turned out well.
 

We used Cov Welsh last night, first time for several years.

It was wierd, we got back around 10 15, the cars at top of ramp seemed to be flowing out quite quickly, but by the time we'd got in our car and joined the queue erything stopped.

Not one car moved up the ramp in nearly half an hour, we couldn't see the exit on to the road from our position but it was odd how it all ground to a halt. Is this the normal weekly occurance?

We assumed it was down to people on foot stopping cars getting out as there is no vehicle traffic on Burbages Lane.
I noticed the school opposite the end of the road was being used for parking which is a new one on me for Cov games. By the time we got out of Cov welsh parking and the traffic the school were locking up their gates. I assume that all that traffic from the School being on the main road went out first with no traffic management etc making Cov Welsh a nightmare. Cov Welsh have also increased parking to £10 this year…

There are no Arena zone signs on Streetview like on all the residential streets. I'll give it a go tomorrow and report back keep it to myself if it is still free! Just a short walk through Sowe Valley Park (or something) then the bridges over the canal and railway into the North side of the CBS.
Update on this - still free but was almost full by about 6.40. The footpath through Longford Wildlife Reserve to the canal bridge is no longer passable - was something akin to a mangrove swamp for some reason. Down Longford Road to the Tesco bus station still easy option.

If something as minor as this is enough to keep someone away, were they even that interested in the first place?

Let's be honest here, since the first game there's always been some excuse or other. I doubt we will see any significant change from this. A&B have been locked down after games for the last few seasons and you can head towards town from C and the arena park.

There's only a couple of parking places inside the closure zone, if it's that much of an issue just walk a couple of minutes more to one that isn't.

It’s thousands of people leaving a small area at the same time. The confusion/anger over why you can’t get away immediately confuses me.

Been parking in car park A for a few years (disabled family members plus we have a 7/8 hour round trip so closest to the motorway). I can't understand why they've shut the roundabout as the majority of the fans cross over further down and couldn't just funnel that car park and the ones over the road onto the motorway rather than just plain close it. There has to be a better way of doing it.
It was fine tonight but come a wet midweek game in the winter, it's going to be a nightmare sitting there after the radio show has finished, especially when it's a 2am arrival home.
The best part of 10-15000 people cross the road at that Island. It is more than an inconvenience for motorists but it is better than running the gauntlet of cars and lorries that use that road.

I guess the club needs to look at their post match offer of F and B as well.

Takes a touch more than a paragraph in a planning doc and good wishes sadly.

Any half functioning city would have mass transit to the uni, the arena and the hospital.
Remind me which party has been in power in Coventry for quite a long time and the vast majority of the past 50 years.

I don’t think the grass has been cut there for year. Council cut backs, I mean “efficiency savings”.

Just been sent my tickets for some ice hockey I'm going to in Denmark, "game tickets allow free access via bus to the arena".

One thing we don't do, which other clubs do, is advise the best places to park depending on where you're coming from. For example if when you went to book parking it said if you're coming from the north (ie: the M6), use car park P2 which is outside the road closures and will allow you straight back on to the M6. If you're coming from the south of the city use C or Arena Park.

The other quick fix is buses. I just don't believe that other clubs can run a service and we can't. Multiple pick up points around the city including park and ride sites seems a no brainer. Why wouldn't you use it?

And with the roads closed you can have fleets of buses lined up on Jimmy Hill Way ready to go as soon as it's safe.

They had been season ticket holders for decades but since moved to the Isle of Wight & now rely on ferry timetables etc. so yes but thanks for your valuable input.
They will be forking out a lot of money to come to a game form the Isle of Wight, so every sympathies.

I wonder how many people wondering why people are unhappy with delay in setting off for home live less than half an hour away.

Why are half the attendance crossing there? Where are they all going to? I’m genuinely surprise.

That 2nd point is the major one for me. If you’re going to close the roads, give people an opportunity to spend money whilst they wait.

Car Parks and homes. There is also some parking outside the restricted area. I do that. I could walk for 50 mins or an hour but park 20 mis away.

Remind me how transport is funded in this country. But yeah it’s a failure on all sides.

probably not, no good for many people.
Given that most of our car sales are imported I believe, could make the balance of payments look better,the remaining employees that are dependent on the industry, could Train as builders for the housing stock we require or medical professions for those who don't want to get dirt under the fingernails ,lorry driver's etç ,do I sound like shhmmeee yet, I'll shut up now!

It is surely of note that Nottingham , with a similar political history, has a very efficient, effective and reasonably priced tram system in place.
Is it more compact there, where in Coventry would you stop it? And where to start, obviously we'd prefer the CBS being selfish, maybe we could transfer all the funds (PFI) given to that company behind the street lamps I mean they only provide half the service now don't they, shouldn't be getting full funding for that, get a good lawyer in court,sort them out!!!

PUBLIC transport is a joke.Spoke to a guy after the game who did it Friday night. Left South Wigston at 3-20 walked in the ground at 7-20.
He said the time he had to wait for connections was terrible.

Hate to say it, but so many private entities got fingers in the pie now,no not JW's pie again,damn new I forgot something at the shops, could murder it now with a bit of branston!

Park and Ride with tram stops at Exhall, Binley Woods, Baginton and Allesley with route North:South and East:West through city centre with stops at rail station and CBS Arena.

Start with the Exhall Baginton route to include railway station and CBS Arena.

Or something like that. Should be finished about the time we win the. Champions League.

The plans already exist for VLR but the problem is we seem to be reinventing the wheel with VLR so rather than being able to crack on and start building using the same tech in place elsewhere we've got to develop new tech and run trials.

Will be decades before this is up and running, if ever.

I want a Cov orbital metro. Stops at Torrington Ave, Warwick Uni, War Memorial, Finham, Willenhall, Binley, Walsgrave, the CBS, Prologis Park, Browns Lane, Eastern Green.

Don’t need to mess about with city centre traffic and building, would serve 90% of the city’s transport needs. Can add in cross lines into the centre later.

What’s the new WM Mayor doing? I’ve heard nothing since his election.
