O'Brien plays with he heart and emotions too much to be a reliable penalty taker. He was nervous, he tried too hard to make sure of it and in doing so completely telegraphed where he was going to put it.

Need someone who plays with there head and can remain stone cold in that situation who can just slam it home like its not a big deal.

If you just picked a spot and kicked it as hard as you could, you would have to score more than 1 in 8.
The best penalty taker I ever saw was Alan Shearer.
Matt Le Tissier I believe never missed one, and our own Ron Farmer only ever missed one and that hit the post.

Perhaps one area we can still compare ourselves with Manchester United. They don't seem too hot from the spot these days. Their rota system doesn't seem to be working.

How about we don't rely on penalties to score goals and improve on scoring goals from open play and set pieces?

Penalties should only be there as a bonus.

But a bonus you should take when presented.

JOB the other night shaped the way h was going to hit it all the way up a keeper as good as theirs knew it.

Shame as I'm a big fan of JOB (some will is this as another to stick to beat him with) I thought he was going to smash oh well hopefully whoever takes the next one can come up with the Noval idea of sticking it away!

I think it might have helped if JOB had turned his back until he was ready to take it.

Their keeper played mind games and stood away from the goal while JOB was lining up, just staring at him and trying to put him off. JOB should have turned away and not been ready until the keeper was in place.

Think we should do a few mind tricks of our own.

Maybe something like a City player going up to JOB, whispering in his ear and pointing to the opposite corner to where JOB intends to put it, to put a bit of doubt in the keeper's mind.

Don't see why it should just be the keeper playing psychological mind tricks.

Even my lad the other night said "Armstrong should have taken it" and he's nine! Mad really. I like O'Brien but you could tell his didn't look too confident when he started his run-up.

I could just tell he was going to miss it right from when he was placing the ball on the spot and the keeper was eyeballing him. Body language just wasn't right.

Next time we get awarded a pen we should ask if we can have a corner instead. We seem to have mastered those.

Or maybe let someone take it who actually wants to do so.

That's the trouble, I'm sure JOB wanted to take it.
I played for years at school and for local teams but never got to take a penalty. When I watch a player now about to take one I think where would I stick it ? I'd go for power and go for the bottom corner. What about you Otis ?

I was a placer. If I blasted it it would either be shot straight at the keeper or it would go over the bar.

I always placed it to the keeper's left. Good job we didn't have Sky and TV highlights back then.

Looking back to when I played there weren't that many penalties given,in fact there wasn't many sending offs either. That means we were that well behaved on the pitch, or methinks the game was tougher than now that to get sent off or given a pen you had to decapitate an opponent back then !

As soon as I seen him picking the ball up I thought WTF is J'ob doing taking the pen!!! If Armstrong had taken it his confidence for scoring would have been up and could have opened the floodgates again

Mick Scoop was a good penalty taker as was Ronnie Farmer so we have had a couple of fine spot kick merchants at the club. Maybe they should watch these two and pick up a few tips ?
