Pennington availability increasing? (1 Viewer)

I see Everton are looking like signing that lad Holgate from Barnsley for £1m. Might that push Pennington lower down the pecking order and increase his chances of going out on loan/to us?

WM

PS. I was at the Ricoh today. Still hate the Wasps logos all over the place. Back on topic though...

Would like Pennington back but there is no chance he'd get in ahead of Ricketts and Johnson

Ricketts is 33 though and probably won't last all season without injury or needing a rest and Reda most certainly won't play all season.

Would love Pennington back here. We are short on numbers.

Im not sure if we need him. Reda and Ricketts are his CB pairing and i didnt think Pennington looked to comfortable at right back I think TM will be happy to have martin as backup

Pennington was great at CB but I wouldn't want him at RB so this is exactly the problem. Would Everton want him to come here when he isn't going to get games. Think we would be a reserve option if they couldn't find something better for him.

No thanks. Not sure where the nostalgia for slightly better than average loanees comes from. At the back we've got virtually 2 players for every position and if it came to it would rather we have our own youngsters experience than somebody else's

Yeah centre half ha our strongest area of cover its idiotic to suggest we should waste money on him.

Problem is Pennignton is Better than Martin and on par better than Willis, as for Harries to young yet and should of played yesterday if TM thought he was ready.. Although i agree with blooding our own,, he would strengthen our squad at the minute...

image.jpg Well according to Sky sports holgate is 198 years old, so Pennington might be worth keeping as cover for the old man ;)

Rickets can play anywhere in the back 4 if needed. I certainly wouldn't be upset if he came back, but similarly I would much rather have a striker...

Idiotic? why do you always have to use use inflammatory rhetoric? Nowadays it always looks like you are gunning for a fight.

Sensible option would be to add to the squad elsewhere for sure, but in Ricketts and Reda I don't think we are expecting full seasons from them are we?

The back up of Wilis and Martin is significantly weaker and when Pennington played there for us he did well. This Morris can apparently play centre back too, but he's a player we know very little about. Also added to the equation is the fact that it looks like Morris is the back-up, or vying for the position of, Vincelot, so if the latter gets injured or suspended you would have to think he would be first choice there and then not available to fill the back up role of centre of defence.

Yes, may not be the most sensible under the constraints we have to bring back Pennington, but idiotic? Seriously?

Id like him back, but as already mentioned in not sure he'd come to play second fiddle to Ricketts and Johnson. And whilst he looked reasonably comfortable at RB, we're already playing a make shift RB in Willis, so I dont think it would make sense to bring in another to do the same thing. If RB is an area Mowbray wishes to improve, i would expect him to bring in a natural RB, not a make shift.

We have Willis and Phillips for right back Ricketts, Johnson and Martin for central defence with Willis aswell plus Cian Harres and Stokes and Haynes for left back, I think as Grendel said what little money we now have it may be better served elsewhere. I liked Pennington but he isn't that much better than what we have, if at all.

Reasonably comfortable at RB? He was dire. Agree with your point though, if we bring in a RB it should be their natural position.

Pennington looked a very good player at centre half for us for the most part. At full back he looked rather lost..

I think we've got enough cover at CB. Ricketts and Johnson won't play every game of season though. Problem will be If they both get injured at same time then Pennington as emergency loan would be good shout.

P.s The big wasps logo near main entrance annoys me, also the fact that their badge is larger in the ground than ours. Also their bus which is used as shuttle to ricoh. But except for that...

Annoys me too if I look at it, so I just ignore it.

I'd much rather have Pennington than Martin, but it looks like we are stuck with the latter at least for now.

We are still a defender short. If ricketts plays right back then Penn can be centre back. We need one backup for each member of the back 4, at the moment we only have 3. Willis is no right back, would prefer Penn there with Aaron as reserve, Willis and Martin as backup CBs.

Ricketts had been superb at CB, knocking on 34 won't have the legs to play fullback any more.

We have

RB: Phillips, Willis, kelly-Evans, Ricketts
CB: Ricketts, Johnson, Martin, Willis, Harris
LB: Stokes, Haynes, Ricketts and at a push Phillips.

If we're going to bring in another player to play rightback, we should bring a a specialist right back not a centre back like Pennington just to play him out of position. Pennington was poor at rightback then a revelation at centre back and we all hammered Pressley for bringing him in and playing him out of position.

I liked the lad at centre half, but to me it seems a big waste bringing him in to play him out of position, where we know he struggles.

I agree with stupot we seem to be well covered defence wise, we need a couple more attackers, can't rely on too much on Armstrong he will soon be heavily marked, we need options.

Thing is, the 2 academy players are totally untested at this level, Willis we all agree is better in the centre and Haynes a lot have been saying he needs to go out on loan to a lower level to get some experience.

The big worry is Ricketts and Johnson, neither of which look likely to complete a whole season. Pennington was great at centre back and lots of us had him down as player of the season for us.

I do agree our priorities lie elsewhere, but I would love to have the lad back.

p.s. you do have Ricketts as cover for right back but then say he doesn't have the legs to play there. :thinking about:;)

Yes, that's why I put Ricketts 4th choice right, if we were desperate. ;)

I liked Pennington at CB too, if it was a permanent deal then I'd sign like a shot, but I don't see the point to sign him in a 3 month loan deal to sit on the bench, if we have an injury crises we can dip into the loan market then.

I agree the other back ups are untested in this league, but so was Maddison, Phillips, Willis, Haynes, Morris, Armstrong, Samuel, etc

How much do we have left of our budget?

We have played 90 mins in the league against what sounds like the biggest spenders in our division. We have played 120 mins in the cup against a club that I think will be top half in our division. We have let in 1 goal. I don't think our priorities are in defence as things stand. We need someone to help get the ball forward and I would like to see an experienced striker. If there is then any money left maybe then look at strengthening at the back.

Another thing if Everton loan Pennington out they will expect him to play and not warm the substitute bench up, i think he will go elsewhere, as stupot said if we could get him permenant, cheap, i would snap their hands off but he would cost a packet

Think if he came, what with Reda's record, he WOULD play and not be warming the bench.

No way would Mowbray drop Reda Johnson for Matthew Pennington and i couldn't see Pennington coming here waiting patiently for a Johnson injury might as well stop at Everton and take a chance there. If and a big if TM got him it will be for full back, he might do better there with a settled defence and Ricketts next to him
