Was in waterstones this afternoon and found an autobiography by Peter Reid which has just been released.

Flicked through it and got to the City bit. Apparently we had Stephen Hunt on trial after he was released by Brentford. Reid wanted to sign him but McGinnity said no.

Also, Reid was reccomended Shane Long, who was then a teenager playing in Ireland. Would have cost peanuts. MM said no to this also.

At the end, he mentions how he managed an English team in a Charity game against Germany. Boris Johnson was in his team, he tore into him for insulting Scousers after his 'self-pity city' comments. Johnson then rugby tackled some Italian during the game that was on tv. Reidy went up in my estimation after that.

Not read Reid's but read both Atkinson's and Micky Adams'.

Atkinson's book was written as if he was too good to be at CCFC, I got quite pissed off with it in the end.

Adams' has got a bit of a chip on his shoulder, you can tell he's a Sheffield United fan. Didn't learn that much from it apart from that Sillett was on the interview panel when Adams was interviewed for the job. He believes he was harshly sacked, and he probably was in all fairness.

Was this Atkinson's recent one?

Still remember him sat outside the store in the Ricoh with a popup table on his own offering signed copies, but nobody was actually bothered and he ended up looking a bit like a beggar sat there watching people walk past.

Yeah, well fairly recent, I read it around this time last year. I quite like Atkinson generally and he was a far better pundit than some of the droids on TV now.

Spent a fortune we didn't have to make us worse.

Trevor Brooking in the Radio Times(!) had us as dark horses for the title that year after we'd spent so much.

How wrong could he be!

He was awful . First game in charge was the last game of the season against Palace at home. He took over from Eric Black. Palace were chasing a play off spot and needed a win. We played them off the park that day to win the game. It was Black's team and Reid's best game in charge.
We were never the same after that. He totally destroyed the basis of a decent team.

Not helped by Davenport being sold from under him, just as we'd beaten West Ham and started to move.

Might have still been OK if Malky Mackay had decided to join us, but the bank wanted the cash really...

We were never the same as that twat mcginnitty was hell bent on selling anything that moved.

Remember the televised game at a Leicester? Lost 3-0. He just stood on the touchline looking bereft of ideas and with exactly zero fucks to give. I said at the time (on GMK if I recall correctly - actually it was probably on LAST) that a manager who was trying to get sacked would not have behaved any differently that night.

I saw the same thing at Lord's once with nobody taking an interest in Henry Blofeld's stall where he was sitting there chatting to a ground official because nobody was taking an interest in his book. Thing is, you kind of don't expect to see these guys just sitting there like that, so I reckon a lot of people hadn't noticed him, as opposed to be ignoring/disinterested in him.

Do me a favour, this is the Tim Sherwood who had just previously broken his leg in two places, was costing us £20,000 a week and topped up his income whilst being injured all the time doing football punditry as well. Unlucky !?

£8,000 a week.

Word however (between these four walls ;)) was that the club didn't bother with a medical, as they knew he'd fail it...

Problem was, by that point McGinnity had painted himself into a corner and had promised a big name signing. Once the likes of Dwight Yorke turned us down, Sherwood was all that was left.

It was a case of anybody, anybody!

Maybe it was O'Neil who was on the ridiculous money and yes he was a parting gift from Gordon..............surely another one who should have failed a medical !

Remember O'Neill suddenly appearing from nowhere as a sub, running around a bit, then retiring instantly?

Surely some kind of insurance play going on around that!

tbf, given the state we were on at the time, Sherwood's wage was indeed stupid anyway.

I remember it well I wondered who it was warming up he ran on pulled hamstring stretching it against the post and then went off.

But he had the good grace to retire and take no pay, he had every right to swear at the person in the crowd as a fellow parent of a child with ds I can see why he lost it. Also it was a very good goal

He also scored a very late pen at Dagenham and Redbridge in the League Cup to win the game for us back in 2012 unless I am very much mistaken.
