One of the things Mowbray pointed out last season was physicality.

Are we seriously going to believe not 1 physical player was available to us? Why weren't the first players he signed big strong, league 1 players? (You could argue Rose is).

We do have that as seen by Turnbull, but we will have to see how it is when we are playing against League 1 brutes.

It made a welcome change at the West Ham game to see our players dominate from corners.

I noticed in the first half they were which was good.

The only thing was though they weren't League 1 meatheads.

Do agree Nick, although we now have plenty of six footers I'm not sure our midfield perhaps apart from Rose can deal with some of the "thug" we have in that department in this division. Don't expect too much protection from referees either.

It isn't so much the defensive side, we saw how well Harries did against Bury.

What I mean is more the nastiness that goes on.

You could argue all day that our team looks weak physically, but some people won't allow you to query it.

Our team could be exciting if it comes together, but we will have outplay other sides as opposed to battling through them. Strength is our weakest asset no doubt, but hopefully we'll be good enough in other areas to counteract that.

we have big hefty lads upfront now and tall back 5. centre mid i agree we could be light in centre mid though

I think the squad has beefed up considerably. I mentioned it to my bro last Saturday that we matched up pretty well to Northampton. The average height suffers of course when Kelly Evans is in the line up. The forwards all seem to be big strong lads who can look after themselves. I'm quite optimistic

What are you talking about Nick? Agyei is the embodiment of a physical player. Sordell is a big lad too. Page from West Ham is fairly strong. The West Brom lad is 6ft, the Newcastle signing is 6ft.

It must be the regression from that powerhouse John Fleck you're worried about.

No I do get that.

It wasn't so much the physicality as in build it was more the nastiness side of it. The only 2 players I have seen kick off a bit are Kelly Evans and Lamieries.

I noticed on Tuesday that Sordell was putting himself around a bit more too.

what i feel is lacking is that referees are not good enough at this level,
having seen 4 of the 5 league games plus the cup games imho the standard of ref's is utter shite,
Jones, for example, was hoofed, thumped, & kicked @ Swindon, the ref merely wagged his finger @ their players,
Reid also has been given excessive treatment,
& when in the Northampton game their defender launched Jones into touch, a la Lameiras v Sheff U, all the cobbler defender got was a finger wag

The thing is though, we don't have anybody doing that off the ball.

We should be leaving the boot in if they want to play like that, refs aren't going to do anything.

Actually although the smallest player in the side Kelly-Evans is a tough bugger with a crunching tackle
I suspect he'll be a major asset as he fills out and learns more about positioning and when to jockey and when to dive in

Did you not see the size of us compared to Bradford , we towered over their team all over the pitch and bossed the game until the sending off .
We have a more physical side than last year in terms of height and presence

Just think we need the odd player who will get stuck in sometimes, we may well have them but just haven't seen that side to them yet!

I have heard a few limited things but most have been along the lines of 'Agressive' and 'Warrior' I have been looking forward to seeing him.

we can be tough & fair & be playing within the laws of the game,
that though confuses all when you've got to put up with the dire inconsistencies shown by referees,
Nigel Miller for example, 2 penalties against us v Bradford,
yet similar challenges by cobbler players against us, in the area, went unpunished, with the pathetic 'play on' signal from the ref

Too much emphasis on size, Billy Bremner, Archie Gemmill, Tommy Smith, Dave Mackay and Lloyd McGrath were all between 5' 5" and 5' 10"; non of them ever looked intimidated.

Messi is another who doesn't need a minder. Comes down to the players attitude at the end of the day.
