Planning application for Higgs submitted by Wasps (2 Viewers)

So where is the statement from CSF saying that the Higgs plans will not impact on the academy?

There is an agreement in place so currently there is no change to the status of the Academy. If I was CSF I would not make any statements promising an open ended agreement with any party until there was a commitment to seriously discuss a mid to long term commitment.

Having just seen the post from army bike, looks like there is a way forward

Paul Breed, chief executive of Coventry Sports Foundation which runs the Alan Higgs Centre, said: “We are delighted to be the leading potential site for Wasps’ new training base and will work with them in any way we can to help make this happen.

Could you dream of him saying this about the football club

Yeah, his statement there reads a bit different to his one about the club.

Is he having a fucking laugh?!

Mr Armstrong also insisted negotiations around use of training facilities were being conducted completely separately from talks about the Sky Blues current deal at the Ricoh Arena.

He said: “We've kept the two conversations separate and said if you would like to use the indoor kicking area at the Higgs Centre you are very welcome to do so.”

How did Anderson not know then?

This is a fucking shambles.

Is the generous rate the same, less or more than we currently pay? What about the people who want to play netball? What will they be doing to help them?

What about the outdoor pitch there building on? Isn't that used for academy games?

There you go Italia, absolutely no chance the indoor footy area will be kept when the swimming pool is built.

Mr Breed "probably not", I would say definitely not.

Help me out here. Where is the mention of the swimming pool.

Just for once Italia, have a fucking day off! The pool is mentioned as part of Coventry having world class training facilities.

From the mouth of your mate Armstrong.

“We have also read with interest in the media about a potential Olympic 50-metre swimming pool being constructed at the Alan Higgs Centre.

“While separate to Wasps’ potential training base, it would be fantastic if that too were to come to fruition. It would be of huge benefit for people in the local area and hopefully the training base Wasps have planned will also generate excitement about the world-class sporting facilities Coventry will have to offer.”

Exactly, they will be played as heroes. It makes me sick.

In this instance, if we can have access to the facilities and have some branding there, then it's an option. If it helps retain the Cat 2 status, then I'd be up for it.

I cannot see us building something elsewhere. I just hope they don't screw us over on rates. Not holding my breath though...

Wasps offer to help Coventry City keep Academy at Alan Higgs Centre
Sounds a bit like 'Higgs share in the Ricoh is still available'. Basically what they're saying is we can rent it off them at night, how would that work? Clearly the academy need a facility to use in the day when they are actually training.

Seems to know all about it now, strange that he didn't a few hours ago.

He wont get called out on it though.

Do you believe plans for Wasps to build training facilities next to the Higgs Centre will impact the club’s academy?
“Wasps have been working up plans for a centre based at the Higgs Centre but while that is the intention, nothing is certain.”

“We are delighted to be the leading potential site for Wasps’ new training base and will work with them in any way we can to help make this happen.
“The Alan Higgs Centre plays a major role in community sports and leisure in South East Coventry, and the creation of a new complex for Wasps would add greatly to the site as well as providing the club with a permanent training base in the city.”

“To that end, Paul Breed (chief executive of Coventry Sports Foundation) had to go out and find other tenants and found us.
“That plan has been coming together for a while. What I'm not clear on is whether CCFC have found another location for their Academy yet.

Thanks.
First time I have seen something that actually confirms the pool is likely to be in the indoor pitch area.
Also if Wasps are saying they will let us use their facility in the middle of the night to retain our cat 2 status doesn't that imply that the current facilities are going?

The problem is the indoor area where the new pool is supposed to be built. If the pool wasn't happening I think the facilities would be there to accommodate both. I'm not sure how big the Higgs is/will, so even if the facilities were available is it even logistically possible that two massive sports clubs could coexist there 7 days a week?

Yes, Wasps are already giving the answer to the objections. They are one step ahead. Yes, I do blame our owners. Wasps are walking over CCFC. We can all object, but where is the CCFC counter attack? Money talks - a 10 year rent guarantee slapped on the table may help.. But it should have already been offered. Where' s the CCFC/ CRFC planing application for the BPA? Might also show that we still need the Higgs and are not building a training centre elsewhere.

The land is owned by Coventry and Warwickshire Awards Trust.
Higgs have a charge on the land dated March 2016 (when it transferred ownership?)
In the charge it says higgs received 400,000 from CWAT and Wasps paid 150,000 to underlet. Including building training facilities.

In march 2016 paul breed was a director of cwat, yet this afternoon he said nothing was certain in relation to wasps building a training facility.

He needs to be called out on it. The trust need to be on his case

Well. At least we know what we're fighting now. Time to stop bitching about the politics and come together. The application only went in today. That means it's not approved and has a process to go through which means it's not too late to start fighting it.

First question. Does anyone know more than your average Joe on here about planning application's? What's the first opportunity that the residents of Coventry will get to fight this? How should we be fighting it? What's the legal basis (if there is one) for fighting it?

Seems to me that this is a battle that's going to have to be fought on many fronts. This planning application being just one.
You can object online

How? When Wasp's get planning permission and the swimming pool gets finalised, there is no room for us, no 10 year deal isn't going to change that.
