Marosi 7- not much to do in the first half but when called upon in the second half he delivered a great save. Distribution was fairly good but at times did take too much time (or the years of watching Burge mess up made it seem so)

Dabo 5- nothing much to do in the first half defensively or attacking wise as Jobello played too deep which didn’t allow him to get forward but when he did he over hit a few crosses. Poor second half and looked the weak link of the back 4, reminded me of Kelly-Evans from a few years ago.

Rose and McFadzean 7- Both won all arial duels and seem very confident with the ball at their feet. McFadzean did misplace a couple of passes but other than that didn’t step a foot wrong and never stopped commanding the back line throughout. Don’t see Hyam getting back in anytime soon if those two keep it up.

Mason 8- very good performance both defensively and attacking wise. Comfortable on the ball and oozed class. Very good forward runs which occupied the full back and allowed Hiwula to cut in side. Seems to of grown in confidence over the season and with more leaders in the defensive line I can only see him developing further.

Shipley 6- Was a typical Shipley performance where there was moments of absolute class but tried to overdo things multiple times which cost us possession. Nothing really overly negative but I see him being the one to lose his place once Allen is fit.

Westbrooke 7- Took his goal fantastically well. Advanced from midfield very well today with some great link up play with the font line and the other central midfielders. Tended to took out to the right hand side which at times left us outnumbered in the middle but with experience that will leave his game. The similarities between him and Bayliss go beyond their looks based on today’s performance.

Kelly 7- Marshalled the midfield very well and sat back when attacking which allowed the other two central midfielders to advance. Was what we’ve come to expect of Kelly in recent times and is exactly what we need in this system.

Jobello 6- Seemed to lack confidence. Glimpses of what he had to offer in the first half but didn’t seem to want the ball, passed it straight back to Dabo numerous times. Wasn’t involved at all in the second half. Needs to gain confidence ASAP before he loses his place.

Bakayoko 7- Typical Baka performance, won most things in the air but had no support from anyone to win his flick on’s which is to b expected in a one striker formation. See him being sacrificed if a new striker comes in.

Hiwula 7- Flashes of brilliance but spells of quietness. Should have squared it to Baka after rounding the keeper. Good run and composure to set Westbrooke up for the goal. First touch has seemed to of massively improved over the summer.

Eccles N/A- Not much too go from but looked comfortable on the ball and in closing the opposition down, showed some quality and certainly looks like he’s good enough to get minutes throughout the season.

Well if we needed to generate more money to help get our targets over the line why keep Brown when he seems to be well frozen out?

Because no-one wants to sign him or are willing to offer him a similar sized contract?

It was Jobello's first game in English football and I think we should cut him some slack. He played well in pre-season and was swapping wings with Kastaneer.

A lot of fans expect fantastic things from the first kick of the first game, I certainly hope he has a good future with us.

Give Jobello some time guys, he needs to adjust to the English games pace, and our formation. We had a lot of players making debuts yesterday, so a little patience is required.

Remember last seasons opener? Sterling looked lost, but after a few games he went on to be ....... bang average!

I dont think anybody has written him or Dabo off, just being honest about both having disappointing games. Nobody had a stinker or looked out their depth. Both look like decent footballers who will have better days. It would be wrong to judge anybody on one game.

Thomas is a hard act to follow - it’s why pure state are not relevant. His overall work rate was massive and his defensive efforts in assisting the full back are much more important than if he had assists.

So I don’t think Jobello was poor I just think the system may look to challenge him in areas of the game he’s never had to work on. It will make a new fullbacks job harder as well whereas Thomas and Sterling were very good together

There was a moron behind me in block 35 screaming that Dabo was shit and should go back to Chelsea - absolutely unbelievable.. Neither Dabo nor Jobello set the world on fire yesterday, but fairly sure there's much better to come from both of them.

Marosi 7 Great save. Distribution good. It was nice not to look away when crosses came into our box.
Dabo 5.5 Disappointing. Didn't look to be really 'at it'.
McFadzean 8 A few wayward passes, but overall was a real rock in defence.
Rose 7 A really good start. Looked quite solid.
Mason 8.5 Much better than last season. Solid in defence and his link-up play with Hiwula was very good.
Shipley 6.5 Started well, but faded towards the end.
Kelly 7 A good captain's performance. Took a yellow for the team.
Westbrooke 7 Confident on the ball and a great goal.
Hiwula 7 Played well, should have scored.
Baka 7 Not bad, but little support for his flick ons.
Jobello 5.5 Looked lethargic. Not much sign of pace.

Have to agree with Hobo on this I see little point saying someone had a great game when the obviously didn’t. Most people scored them 5 or 6 which I thought was a fair reflection of what happened.

Mason was very good yesterday, but i wouldn't give him more than an 8 because of a couple of hospital balls he gave, and knocking it about across the penalty area instead of getting rid (which made Rose look worse than he actually was!).
I think Mason would be really powerful as a genuine wingback in a 3-5-2. Having to track their "whinger" number 11 all the time made him play deeper, although he generally did very well in that role too.
I'd like to see Hyam, McFad and Rose as a back 3, as i think that would help Dabo with the fitness levels and link-up with Jobello.

Thought Mason was superb, looked half a yard quicker than last year. Baka started well. Haven’t seen Westbrooke have a bad game yet. Mcfadzean won a fair bit in the air but their chances late on are worrying.

I thought Dabo did ok, liked his willingness to just whip the ball in early first touch. Over hit a couple but he'll be a good player for us I think.

Disappointing to hear the first Jobello reviews. Saw him against Swindon and i was very impressed with his work-rate and wing play. was coming back to win balls. looked a real find.

Im sure he will come good

Looked to have a decent first touch, seemed quite quick...just didn’t do anything.
I thought Dabo had a poor game too but again looked like he might come good.

Dabo looked to me like he's got it in him to be a nasty little fucker which is something we've missed.

I think the Liverpool friendly where he kicked the ball at the ad boards out of frustration and nearly wiped out a photographer / steward made me think that. He wasn't arsed he just wanted to win!
