Just looked in my granddads Sunday Sun, Wood & Brown got highest marks and Brown was in L1 Team of the Week.

Must be some poor defenders in the league

Wow it must be why I dont read the Sun

Brown was so poor in the first half that even if he'd have played a blinder in the second (he did get better) I would still have scored him low. How many times did we not deal with balls into the box? I can think of quite a few so how you give the central pair good marks is beyond me. Didn't they score from a corner with piss poor defending

It's The Sun: they think Cody McDonald hit the bar for Dagenham against us in midweek. They probably picked Brown for being Wes Brown's brother and from Man U without seeing anything of the match. I'd say it's lazy journalism, but it's just non-journalism, really. Terrible rag.

Murphy - 8 couple of great saves to keep us in it.
Clarke - 6
Brown - 6
Wood - 8 headed everything and made good interceptions
Hussey - 5 the random hoofing of the ball was baffling
Daniels 1 I know he is young but was crap can't pass, tackle do anything what chance do we have of playing football when the man who is supposed to start off our moves and keep it on the floor just boots it aimlessly anywhere
Killer - 4 should be playing Dm or not at all, to slow to play left side as a result left huge spaces down the flank
Barton - 8 touches of real class, can only get better
Fleck 7 great assist, composed on the ball
Ball 5 looked a bit fat
Cody 8 great goal should of had 4 he will have 20+ by the end of the season
Macca - 4 too slow highlights how we need pace in this team e.g nimley
Elliot 5 some decent touches
Jennings 6 should have started will be very good I predict
Thorn 6 three mistakes 1 making killer captain now he has too play every game like Stephen wright wood should be the skipper 2 playing kilbane left side 3 playing billy Daniels granted there wasn't much football yday but the pitch was bad, our best football will come at home. As regards the formation I still think 4231 is a better bet if we get some pace in the team.

Kilbane is the best choice for captain, 110 int'l appearances!? No one has played at a higher level than him and nearly got promoted with Hud'field! Just because he is skipper does not mean he is going to start every game! Wood, I hope is VC and when Thomas gets back I doubt he'll even start.

Also, CC started Wright because he didn't have another RB and was camped up his arse!

As for Daniels, I suspect that Baker + Jennings weren't 100% therefore, Baker couldn't play LCM and Kilbane DM and Jennings couldn't play DM so Daniels was the obvious choice. Giving him a 1 is well OTT! Ball sounded pretty decent in the 1st half.

We used 4-2-3-1 against Wrexham, we lost 4-1 and a few idiots felt he deserved the sack! Also, we'd need at least 2 wingers to play 4-2-3-1 as McSheff* + Baker** are not good enough/up for it!

* McSheff too inconsistent, over-rated and over paid (!) and not that good anyway to play him on wing (or 'in the hole for that matter!)

**Maybe a tad harsh on Baker but he is also inconsistent and I feel he would be better 'in the hole' (where he had a stormer with Stockport in L1) than on the wing (2nd choice to Fleck of course!)

murphy - 7 looked shakey early doors but made a great save in the second half.
clarke - 6 wasnt his best performance but he did what he had to do
brown - 5 had an awful first half and an average 2nd.
wood - 7 was solid at the back
hussey - 5 looked a bit lost at times
daniels - 4 was mostly invisable for the most part.
kilbane - 5 seemed to be running from one flank to another alot with no real purpose
barton - 7 good steady game. great effort to hit the post out of nothing.
fleck - 7 good assist and looked settled
ball - 5 no real impact on the game
cody - 8 great goal and played well in injury time to open himself a chance..shame he put it over.
macca - 3 complete waste of time. far too greedy and couldnt even beat the first man with a cross or dead ball situation.
elliot - 6 did alot of running and battled well. some nice touches on the ball
jennings - 6 seemed to want to play football and played some tidy stuff at times

How is Fleck gettig a 7? He had about four touches. Yeah good cross for the goal but that's about the only positive contribution he made.

Fair points, note that I said 4231 if we get pace. Also believe me Daniels was worth a 1

Worth a 7 because of one dead ball into the box? Absolutely laughable, he was on the pitch for 20 mins.

Got an Assist: it would have been a 7 in Football Manager!

So what did he do wrong? If he would have done the same each 20 mins and played for 80 mins he would have got an 8 or 9. Just a 7 as he set up our only goal and made no mistakes. That ball he played in for the goal was the best I have seen all season ;)

No marks from me, just some observations about the game.

There were times when I thought that Aidy Boothroyd was back in charge. What is the point of assembling what could be the best midfield in the league if it is going to be bypassed by hit and hope hoofball?

Hussy seemed to be reluctant to commit himself to a tackle. Yeovil had far too much space on their right hand side. No one wanted to close them down.

If Wood and Brown are our two best central defenders, then we are going to have a very difficult season; neither of them imposed themselves on Yeovil's attack.

Fleck did a good job in the limited amount of time he had on the pitch - if he can stay fit (what was his injury, by the way?) he will be an important player for us.

Cody put a hell of a shift in; he was shoved around a lot, but gave as good as he got. How he missed that late chance, I'll never know. Probably, he won't either.

Barton showed some real class, and was inches away from scoring a great goal. He'll do well for us.

Cyrus Christie will have a difficult job reclaiming the RB position. Jordan Clarke had a good game and made some really good tackles.

Elliott did well for the time he was on. I think he could be quite a classy player for us.

McSheff is renowned for being a slow starter - but yesterday he was awful. I hope he gets better quickly. At the moment, it's quite right that he starts the game on the bench.

I expected more from Kilbane.

All in all, a point away is not too bad a start to the league campaign. But hoofball is not going to get us out of this division.

Agree with this point, though if Hussey plays like that week in week out then competition for places at left back may be required???

If Hussey plays like that week in week out, we don't need just competition, my Lord, we need a new left back.

I suppose I'll add some thoughts in here.

I took a mate with me who lives in Yeovil and has no affinity with Cov (in fact he once had a half season ticket at Leicester, so he is very much un-biased)

He and I both thought Clarke had a great game, we were both impressed with Barton - he Will be massive for us this season based on that performance.

Cody was rugby tackled and shoved and pushed around all game, but never gave up and never gave the Yeovil players one inch. For a small lad, he can give as good as he gets. Haven't had a chance to look at the highlights yet, but I can tell you that 2000 people were positive that we should have had a penalty.

Murphy had a solid game and made a couple of decent saves - I missed the Yeovil goal, as someone was walking in front of me at the time, and I couldn't see a thing, so don't know if he could have saved it.

wood was solid - although not outstanding, he did a reasonable job.

mcsheffrey was woeful. in his defence, I think he was trying a bit too hard. He seemed desperate to be the hero, instead of making a simple pass to a team mate, he was trying to take on Yeovil single handedly, but this resulted in him giving the ball away cheaply almost every time he got it, and if that's how he's going to play all season, he can stay in the reserves!

Everyone else was pretty average. Not worthy of mention in either praise or criticism. Fleck started reasonably well, but wasn't on long enough to be able to rate fairly.

All in all, it was disappointing, but the stats as posted from the BBC elsewhere do not do the performance justice. We were poor, but did enough to deserve a draw imho.

Fleck put 1 good ball for the goal then missed a sitter with the keeper nowhere near the goal after he save Cody's shot, Fleck picked out the one defender between him and the goal when he had all the time in the world. After that he pulled up lame. Don't want to be too harsh on him as he was only on for 25 minutes but he deserved a 5.

Shef tried hard just kept taking the wrong option. Ran at the defence and took people on but kept trying thunderbolts from distance when team mates were in better positions. Got told to F*&^ off and called a C£$T at the end when he was one of the few players that came to clap the fans. He got the right hump which inflamed the chavs at the front who were barracking him.

Absolutely spot on there, IMO Sheff was trying to be the hero.. The front line need to be told that we're in this as a team , there were at least 3 occasions where a squared ball would have resulted in certain goals and we could have won the game by 3 or 4 which would have flattered us hugely but playing poorly and winning like that is a very good sign.

Take out the fact that we had a stick on penalty , so much so that I didn't even look at the ref.. I just assumed he would give it , I don't think it's as bad as everyone is stating and I wouldn't be surprised if we tore Sheffirld Utd a new arsehole on Tuesday..

I was surprised at some of the stick Adam Barton was getting off a lot of fans around me on Saturday.. I sometimes wonder what these people are seeing.. He was referred to as "a sack of shit" and "daddy long legs" on more than one occasion..

Also surprised at how poor Hussey was.

I think we will have learnt more from that game than any other game in Pre season.. Whether or not Andy Thorn can act on it is another matter, but I'll give him till christmas.
