Anybody want to start them off?

Pre and post 25 minutes and formation change if you want to be clever ;)

Burge 6 - Typical Burge performance. Kept a clean sheet and has a lot of natural ability - the natural ability to make me feel incredibly uneasy.
Grimmer 5 - If he was 2 yards faster he'd be a brilliant fullback but he's got the turning circle of a tank. He's lucky we've not come up against too many out and out wingers this season.
Willis 7 - Thought both centrebacks were relatively untroubled after the formation change and dominated their strikers.
Davies 7 - Looked all over the place for 20 minutes but steady after the tactical change. Is he naturally a left or right sided CB?
Haynes 5 - Will get plaudits for his last ditch tackle but was sucked out of position to start with. In a formation where we play more through the midfield, I'd rather Stokes came back in.
Doyle 6 - A lot of screaming at mistakes in the first 20 minutes and took a booking so he could bollock Davies which left him exposed for the rest of the game. If he had any influence over the formation change then +2 points for him. Lucky to get away without a 2nd booking for an arm out handball.
Stevenson 6.5 - Lovely range of passing and thought we could have played through him much more than we did. Another positive step towards his first team re-integration.
Shipley 7 - A midfielder getting into the box! What a rarity! Another steady performance with some good set pieces and a goal to go with it. Gave away a lot of silly fouls for pushing though.
McNulty 7.5 - Some great runs and a cracking finish. Delighted he's in the goals. Should have hit his chance for Duck's goal first time but if the Duck keeps on passing and he keeps on scoring then he'll have the confidence to be taking chances like that first time, as his touch let the defender get a great block in.
Biamou 7 - Lead the line very well and took a beating. Made a lot of space for his other strikers occupying their brutes at the back. Would have rivalled Nazon for my Mom if he'd grabbed a goal.
Nazon 8 - Man of the match for me and looked twice the player with some much improved decision making. Whoever finally got through to him, well done!

Vincenti 6 - Much better performance when not being asked to play glued to the touchline and should have got an assist but for Biamou's poor header.

Robins 7 - The initial set up was awful and he was lucky it was still 0-0 when he changed the shape but plenty of kudos for doing it mid half and not trying to get to half time as ultimately the change won us the game. You just can't play 4-3-3 with a back 4 on the edge of your own box.

Agree with all of that - I watched on TV, so not really qualified to comment any further.

Always interesting to read your in-depth assessments, thanks for taking the trouble. It almost feels like I was there (largely absent recently, but hoping to get to a couple of games soon). Very glad to hear that Stevenson is coming back into form and showing what he can do, and that the forwards are starting to find their feet. With the loss of our two best creative players for the season, we need everyone else in the squad to be firing on all cylinders.

I’m assuming of course that what you’ve written bears at least some resemblance to what actually happened :)

Agree on most of that except the midfield ratings.
Shipley was largely poor, didn’t do a lot, got his goal, but other than that was pretty anonymous.
Doyle had a great game breaking up the play, yeah he took one for the team, but how their players weren’t booked for some of their challenges on him I don’t know.
Stevenson slowly grew into it, but wouldn’t say he was better than Doyle, a couple of nice passes, but still got some way to clawing his way back into the first 11 when Kelly is fit.

Thanks Calista, I appreciate that, I really do - it's nice of you to say so. I do try and remain balanced and judge on the performance of the day without any preconceptions but I am only (mostly) human and football is often a very subjective game. :)

You're probably right, I ought to have given him a 6. He does get forward well and has got a very decent cross on him for a defender but I think his short passing is often ponderous and inaccurate (which is totally to be expected for a L2 fullback). I think this will be highlighted more now he's not got an out an out wide player in Jones to run beyond and cross it. Today I just felt a few too many break aways were held up and fleeting opportunities lost by a hesitance to pass early. For me it's his improvement area to work on in training.

I did find the midfield hardest to rate and I always value your opinions SBG! I don't think Shipley was great today but I also don't think he was anonymous - in fact I thought his box to box running was crucial to us without wingers and it was evident Robins had worked on that with him having shackled him in the Kelly role against Crawley.

Perhaps I was a little harsh on Doyle. His yellow wasn't taking one for the team though - he just booted a guy going nowhere out of frustration at his team mates not marking him! I then thought that took the edge off of his game as he was worried about a whistle happy referee and a team who were borderline cheating the ref, instead of influencing the ref and oppo when it mattered the most. Yes he broke the play up well but it was his only job against a team that barely threatened 2nd half so I thought it was pretty average Doyle.

Shipley was heavily involved in the first goal too and also involved in the second, so a hand in all three goals.

Not bad that.

He’s clearly a talented kid, I’m not doubting that, and I guess at the end of the day if he’s scoring and creating then I shouldn’t be harsh. But in terms of his general performance, he flattered to decieve in my eyes. I think he is gonna be important for the rest of the season, but I thought he would really stamp his mark against this side. Same could be said for Stevenson

That's a very accurate representation of the game in my opinion. The optimum point being about Nazon. He was the difference, and I know we all joke, but it was massively to do with his decision making today.

If we can keep him in January and he can keep from being too selfish, him and McNulty could be a real force.

Yeah it is hard to rate the midfield today. Fair point about Shipley with the box-to-box I can appreciate that, but as I have just said to Otis, perhaps I thought he and Stevenson, with their technical ability could have controlled the play a bit better. Some of the passing first half was awful, we saw what Stevenson could do when he got his head up, and played at times.

Yeah can see your point on Doyle tbf, I just think first half without him, we might have been 1-0 down. He carried the team before the tactical change. And it was also his quality in leading the team, and letting them and the ref know that their performances weren’t up to scratch.

Watched it on tv with spanish commentary but apart from that, great to see an unselfish Nazon thought McNulty was lucky Duck was able to finish his poor atrempt for the 1st goal. Yes McNulty scored but if talk of Shipley flattering to decieve I think that should be levelled at McNulty too, still not good enough for me maybe he has pissed me off too much this season and I just have a downer on him.
Thought Max battled well and towards the end I was desperate for him to score but for some reason in my head forgive him but not McNulty, Haynes looked dreadful and fully agree get Stokes back in overall a sort of professional performance and apart from the odd little scares we looked in control for the most part, great to see Doyle handing out a few rollickings

Dave Busst made a couple of interesting points.
1. Shipley had a good game.
2. We started poorly and had to adjust our tactics. He feels this is a strength in the team this season as they have shown they can adapt to different formations.

He was asked about Crawley and failure of wing backs. He felt it was down to Crawley nullifying it. He said sometimes you set up for the opposition and they change their system at the last minute and your tactics no longer work. That is football and sometimes no matter how prepared you are it just doesn't work on the day.

I find it a bit bizarre that a lot of people don’t rate mcnulty and like biamou.

To me mcnulty always looks lively (apart from when he’s playing out wide) makes a lot of runs and his goal record isn’t too bad.

Biamou makes all the wrong runs can’t really kick a ball , misses all but one chance and people prefer him

Was it my steaming or did it look like McNulty had been dining out with Matt Rhead of Lincoln all week!

Is he this years santa at the JSB party?

Yeah he definitely looks like he's got a bit of a gut to me, though I don't think it is reflected in his fitness.

Some people saying with the first goal McNulty should have scored. Well his shot was on target and it is actually some good defending with the player sliding across to get a block in.

With his goal, excellently timed run, looked up and executed the lob perfectly.

It just shows there is no pleasing some fans, even when you do start scoring.

McNulty's goal was singled out by Kilbane and Dion Dublin on the BBC due to the skill in the finish.

Just re-watched the highlights, looks like a block by the defender and a good save by the keeper to keep it out for Nazon's first.

I've commented on it a couple of times this season. He's certainly not lean but it doesn't seem to affect his work rate or fitness. Weird how he looks bigger some weeks than others though - maybe it's the direction the wind is blowing his shirt :D

A goal every 207 minutes in sky blue for McNulty now. If he had put away a couple of those chances he had in his bad patch earlier in the season then he'd probably be very well liked.

My only problem with him is that he used to look like this

I see the Telegraph have given Beavon 7 out 10 for yesterday.

I like the bloke, but that seems a bit overly generous doesn't it?

I would say 5 tops.
