O’Brien- 7. Some good saves. Kicked well and couldn’t really do anything about the goal.
Grimmer-7 defended well and is dangerous going forward. Looked like he was struggling with a knock second half.
Hyam-8 Brilliant in the air considering a head injury. Good on the ball at times too.
McDonald - 8 won everything in the air
Haynes- 6 should have done better for the goal gave the ball away a lot
Doyle-7 typical Doyle performance
Bayliss-8 so good going forward looks a class act hope we can hold onto him.
Vincenti-6 game bypassed him a lot
Shipley-7 some good play and adds something going forward.
Clarke Harris- 9 Motm. Thought he was brilliant. Looks a danger on the ball and is clearly too good for this league.
McNulty- 8 chases everything just unlucky with some efforts today.

Robins-8
Kelly-8
Reid-7
Ponticelli-6

O'Brien 8 - Two stand out saves, couldn't do anything about the goal. Commanded area well
Grimmer 7 - Put a shift in going forward, solid defensively
Hyam 8 - Can't think of anything he did wrong, got his head to everything and calm on the ball
McDonald 8 - No obvious mistakes and even found himself making a burst into Crewe's box at one point
Haynes 5 - Unconvincing, I always worried when he was on it. Dithered too long on the ball at times
Vincenti 6 - Largely anonymous. Didn't make many mistakes but didn't exactly do good things either
Bayliss 8 - An extra mark for how well he took his goal. Looked effortless going forward at times
Doyle 7 - Did what Doyle does best. Unspectacular but he doesn't need to be fancy, we need his grit
Shipley 6 - Shirked a lot of tackles in the first half, not his best game
Mcnulty 8 - Ran himself into the ground, held it up well and unlucky with his chances. Arguably his mistake led to the first goal by turning into traffic instead of laying the ball off to his left
JCH 8 - Like Sparky, put in a shift today. He's a big strong lad and seems to look for fouls a bit too much for me but it generally stuck when it went up to him which we needed. Set us up nicely with the early goal

Kelly 8 - Seemed to pick up where Bayliss left off, fine performance
Reid 6 - Wasn't on that long but did what he had to well, gave us an outlet against tired legs
Ponti 5 - Wasn't on long enough to do much

Robins 9 - We're obviously better than Crewe but for once we played like it against a lesser team with attacking intent throughout the team. He set us up well and his subs were spot on

LoB - 8 - did what he had to with some top draw saves' there was one save which burge would not have made just because liam has the greater reach

Grimmer - 7 - has two jobs with peter in front of him so thought he was ok

Rod - 7- solid, but i felt nervous about distribution at the back

Hyam - 8 - same as rod but had a bandage on so gets better mark. We have lucked out with the depth of our centre back pairings this season.

Ryan - 6 - so so, not his best game going forward and that means it wont be good game overall

Doyle - 7 - gave aggro when needed, not spectacular but solid

Bayliss - 8 - this kid has a rare skill, just running at players with confidence in the middle of the pitch. He cannot play wing ever again for us, enjoy this whilst it lasts which may be only 10 or so games.

Vincenti - 4 - just no intensity, some skill but no desire. Unforgiveable and yes i agree he is out of position.

Shipley - 6- wasteful at times, still working out his position. Good engine though

Mcnulty - 7 - would have been 8 but the goal was from his decision making, he is tireless though and quality

Jch - 7 - good goal but he really needs to work on beating a man, he has the pace and strength but struggles to change direction. The goal was a perfect ball for him

Kelly - 7 - good and solid

Bayliss was superb for the half he was on. Clarke Harris has added a new dimension to us but McDonald was MOTM for me. Creditable mentions for Hyam, Grimmer (who limped out for the 2nd half) and Kelly when he came on.

Ponticelli -

O'Brien stepped in and looked calm and confident, difficult conditions to play out from in the first half and made some great saves. Grimmer and Vincenti struggled too with the conditions down the left in the 1st half. Mcdonald looked classy again and Hyam stood up to the challenge yet again. Kelly was very positive when he came on and was clearly asked to be progressive and so nearly scored. JCH always looks to carry a threat and I think it be fair to be credited with the goal.

All in all another good but cold away day, the push continues.

McDonald 9...motm by a mile. Superb back to his best.

He was excellent on Tuesday too.

Agree with both here. Had a difficult night Tuesday to deal with two top L2 strikers in Collins and Hylton but did very well and was my MOTM and again yesterday with the physical and mobile Bowery who gave him something to think about.

Back to his early season form tho and looked solid constantly talking with Hyam who also didn't let anyone down again looking more composed.

I thought Doyle was superb yesterday.
Special mention to the linesman in front of the City support. Useless twat but I actually felt sorry for him, took absolute dogs abuse for 90 minutes!

Loving the 9s for LOB when we didn' keep a clean sheet and stats show they had sum total of 3 shots on target. That would have been a 4 for Burge without doubt.
He was significantly better than Burge in my opinion. Made very good stops, the goal was scored directly after a great save he made, his kicking was good considering the conditions, the defence look more confident in him and he commanded his area. I am not saying he is a far better keeper but he was deserving of keeping his spot.

I'm not criticising LOB, I'm sure he's fine just pointing out the imbalance in ratings for similar displays. Despite coming through the ranks and being one of our own, Burge gets dogs abuse and also makes decent stops in almost every game.

He was an 8 first have with a couple of fantastic saves and great distribution but i'd probably give him a 5 second half, was caught out of position a couple of times and didn't look too solid. Sterry nearly scored with a cross because he wasn't positioned properly.

All in all I'd say both keepers are probably adequate for this level, about as good and bad as each other but if we go up then we need to bring a replacement in.

I suspect if Burge had made that save before the Crewe goal, he would have been blamed for the goal, but there you go

Has anyone seen anything better than either of them this season, out of curiosity?

To be honest it's hard to judge opposition keepers due to the way we play. We never really put them into a lot of work. All I can say is that I've not seen a huge keeper's howler like the ones we've seen from both Burge and O'Brien.

Not our league, but weren't Courtois and De Gea both at fault in their respective Champions League games last week?
Also, McDonald gets MOTM for his performance against Luton - not arguing too much with that - yet Haynes gets marked down for not stopping Hylton scoring the equalizer. The question I have is why weren't McDonald/Hyam marking Hylton?

Because we were playing a zonal system and he was in Haynes' zone.

McNulty. Didn’t have have a good game at all for me. Was at fault for first goal,he gave the ball away needlessly awful decision making he had many options but lost the ball. Fair play he put his hand up straight up away to apologise to his team mates when taking centre again.

His decision making recently hasn’t been as good as it should be as well as his hold up play. Missed 2 sitters vs Barnet one header and had a fair few chances vs Luton and Crewe as well. Just hope he’s not going back to wasteful self os September/October.

Hasn’t scored in open play for quite a few games. Hope it’s just A blip. And bangs in a few more to take the pressure off us and shut me up. At the moment does seem a bit wasteful but still a huge menace and frustrating at times.
