Burge - 6 I thought he was a bit rooted to his line. Much improved though
Sterling - 7 battled really well against their best attacking player and still had time to get forward
Willis - 8 really good defensive play
Davies - 8.5 excellent. Great save from hi header
Brown - 6 dilly dallied on the ball. Very combative though and the goal line clearance brilliant
Thomas - 8 great goal and his energy is unbelievable
Bayliss - 7 wonderful first half surprised he got take off
Doyle - 6.5 his corners are excellent and although he misplaced passes there was a lot of good play especially first half
Hiwula -7.5 great finish. He was excellently defensively for 65 mins
Jch - 6 should have scored and needs to hold it up better. By no means poor
Chaplin - 7 excellent until he started playing centre mid
Kelly - 6 not as poor as others thought for me. Getting up to speed
Jones - 5.5 looked a bit wary of running at full soeed. Had a couple of chances
Ogogo - 6 thought he looked strong

Although Doncaster had lots of the ball they were kept at arms length. Great first half, poor attacking second half but defensively and especially Davies and Willis were superb

In a game of two halves the back 5 as a unit we’re good value for the 94 mins however the 6 in front was not. The 1st half spoke for itself, we was good value for the halftime lead which could of been greater still.

The second half we looked like a young inexperienced side who didn’t know how to cope with a halftime lead with another 45 to go and could not find a rhythm to enhance or simply get a footing in the game in the early stages of the second half as Doncaster gave everything and came at us time and time again in a very one sides half.
Kelly for Bayliss substitution looked logical as he looked so lethargic in the second half after a bright opening 45, JJ for Chaplin also seemed sensible as Chaplin was resulting to playing so deep as we could not retain any possession to build much in the way of a attacking move.

Doncaster caused some serious problems tho that another day could of been another story, however today the luck and 3pts with 5 league wins is ours.

Pick of a mixed bunch for a special mention are the Willis and Davies combo that has a perfect balance and Thomas for getting his just deserves for some bright energetic displays, let’s hope he can build upon that confidence.

A little defence for Doyle here sure he aint no world beater and sometimes his passes go astray as do his corners and free kicks at times but we actually look like we can score from corners these days for the first time in years, his quick free kicks catch the opposition off guard too. Yes he is a little off the pace at times but i think we would be a poorer side without him in the team, he is not as good or should i say dynamic as last season but until we have someone better long live the Doyler

Jones 6 – not sure what he did so wrong? Will naturally take a while to get back to his best.
Ogogo 6 – given a strange role when he came on
Kelly 6 – more of an all-rounder than Bayliss, maybe the change saved the day

Not sure how chaplin warrants a 7. Was fairly anonymous. Clarke-harris spent al game winning headers holding tge ball up and chasing down defenders and you give him 5. Odd. Very odd

Sterling 7 ... has grown into the season and provides some great crosses
Willis 8 ... was excellent throughout and could have put the game to bed
Davies 9 ... man mountain who once again blocked headed and cleared all danger
Brown 6 ... not one if his best days ... superb block at the end but illness showed
Doyle 7 ... is pivotal to our formation but looked leggy following a run if midweek games
Bayliss 6 ... first half like the Bayliss we know of old ... second half like the Bayliss of recent games ... right to be hooked
Thomas 8 ... great energy and team ethic ... deserved his goal and worked until his legs gave way
Hiwula 6 ... took his goal well but all else was poor ... rightly hooked
Chaplin 6 ... found it hard to get involved and was chasing shadows
JCH 6 ... is holding up play well but should have been bollocjed for lazily standing offside during move in dying seconds that nearly cost us 2 points

Doyle should always get another point for his captaincy - his leadership on the pitch is invaluable. He also hit a perfect pass to start a breakaway near the end of the game, and was one of the most forward players in another of the late breaks.

Whatever you think of them, this was the collective opinion of the player raters - and quite a good response this week

MotM Thomas, no surprise and bit of a change as he had joint lowest appreciation against Bradford
Dud of the Match Brown - notwithstanding his goal line clearance and again no surprise given the comments in the matchday thread
Yet again, for the 5th match in a row, Davies is in the top two and is way ahead in a cumulative table for all games. On this basis a shoe in for Player of the Season
Respect for Sterling continues to rise - Most Improved Player?

It's the knee jerk reactions that I despair of
A few weeks back for some geniuses Sterling was rubbish, Thomas had no end product, Hiwula was a panic buy and Baka was a pub team player
Luckily Robins seems to know a bot more about the game than most of us

great analysis but shoe in for player of season? hes only just come into the team, willis has been doing it longer for us. there isnt much between them tbh, willis faster,davies stronger. we are lucky, especially when hyam comes in as back up and sometimes plays better!

Burge - 6.5 - solid enough and I’m definitely more confident with him in goal than I have been in previous years. His out of hand especially, was poor though.

Sterling - 7 - continues to improve his attacking side by offering an outlet more and more, it’s evident his confidence is improving. Defensively he wasn’t solid too and seems to be increasing committed.

Davies/Willis - 9 - one of the best defensive combinations in the league? Perhaps hyperbole, perhaps not. But you’d back Davies 99/100 to win anything that comes his way, while his distribution is improving too. While Willis’ pace has always been an asset, he’s also improving the other aspects of his defensive game too, and is being bullied less and less.

Brown - 5 - bar the block on the line he was poor, he looks indecisive on the ball. He made a few good tackles, but the majority were last ditch for a reason. Granted he was ill.

Thomas - 9 - he’s done the same thing he has since he joined; use his pace and direct running and has now backed it up with defensive work/positioning and finally a goal. How anyone every doubted him, I’ve no idea.

Bayliss - 7 - instrumental in the first half, tired in the second. Still wouldn’t have taken him off though as we lost our attacking drive through the middle instantly. He needs to be kept motivated as he is a game changer.

Doyle - 7 - looked uncharacteristically tired second half, but as poor as he is on the ball, he’s pivotal to how we play.

Hiwula - 7 - great technique for the goal and offered an outlet throughout. He tucked in a lot though which is perhaps because he’s not a natural winger. His defensive work was really impressive too, again, especially considering he’s a striker.

JCH - 7 - not always his biggest fan, but when he wants to be he can be unstoppable and a nightmare for defenders. He was an outlet today and worked as hard as I’ve ever seen him. Technically he isn’t great though and should have scored.

Chaplin - 6 - busy performance and constantly wanted the ball, but dropped too deep and should have set up Bayliss first half for an easy finish.

Subs

Kelly - 5.5 - didn’t much right or wrong. Hes a passing midfielder, especially backwards/sideways, which wasn’t ideal when we needed to push up the pitch.

Jones - 5 - poor on the ball. Hopefully he’ll improve as fitness does. Worried the expectations on him are too high.

Ogogo - 4 - did he even touch the ball? Felt for him as was asked to play an unfamiliar position and looked completely lost.

They have played together in 6 of the last 7 games - Davies has a better score than Willis in 5 out of the 6 games

The masses saod Shipley shouldn't be dropped..

I am always right. Nothing I've said here is any different. They r both playing class. Sometimes Willis better sometimes Davies. I have said a a much in my own ratings. Of anyone says Davies better than Willis 5 game out of 6 they are clearly bias

I think the ratings system might favour central defenders - Davies Willis and Hyam are all in the top 4 cumulatively. They are very visible on the pitch. But on the other hand you could argue by common consent it is the part of the pitch where we are very strong and Rod McDonald was rightly panned on here last year. Takes your pick

Fair point however it really all depends on each individual doing the rating’s mindset to what they like from a player and the position and what they perceive the roll to be. (If they was a manager)

You could say that....Strikers you always want more from especially if they’ve missed chances deemed should of been taken (JCH/Biamou for example ) unless they get the winner, a brace or a hat trick they will generally score high.

Your keeper (Burge/O’Brien) could of always done better potentially, unless he keeps a clean sheet say. Midfielders people most like to see striding over the halfway line with the ball looking for a killer pass constantly ticking play over (Doyle/Bayliss is a good barometer for this) so this only leaves your defenders who you can breakdown between the central defensive pairing and your full backs.

Your fullbacks (Grimmer/Brown) in some eyes are turned inside out too much then beaten by there man and the finger points at allowing the cross into the box, and want to see some service given into the box in a attacking intent (Sterling) so leaves your central pairing (Willis/Davies) looking solid and scoring high when results are going positive.

Only players it leaves to out score them is your exciting wide players who are hopefully influencing the game (JJ/ Thomas) or a substitute coming on having a impact on the outcome who’s naturally gonna feel the love of the scoring fan and easily pick up a inflated rating for 20/30 mins work.

All of the above tho is immaterial if it’s Andy Turner who scores well if you “ran your socks off” or homegrown.
