Think it was in the strachen manager I am sure he was offered to us by heerenveen before he went to psv but we said he would not be good enough something along those lines

HaHa what a conspiracy that was, imagine if that happened now :slap:.
As you say I am not sure on which one it was big ron or strachen but I know we were offered him, glad we never as he proved not to be good enough for us

Neil Lennon was on the brink of signing before O'Neill poached him at the last minute.

Think Richard Rufus and Lee Bowyer were close in a double deal.

Also seem to remember Eric Black being in on Kevin Doyle, but there was no cash.

Plus some Scandinavian goalscorer called Rune Lange, who turned us down while we were in the Prem. Ouch.

Wow! I didn't realise that! Thanks guys!

Back on to Cork, I didn't actually rate him that highly! I'd sign him in an instant now but back then, I wasn't gutted when he went back. Henderson on the other hand...

Brian Clough agreed to manage City back in April 1972. He went as far as resigning from Derby but the Derby chairman gave into Clough's demands and he stayed on at Derby for another 18 months.

I'm sure we nearly signed Henry when he was 17/18.

This sounds like BS. This would have been in 1994 whilst he was playing for the Monaco first-team under Arsene Wenger, and Phil Neal was CCFC manager. I find this completely implausible given how few overseas players we had back then.

I'm sure the telegraph printed we were once linked with Ravanelli.

Perhaps is was when he was at Juve then before he went to arsenal.....tbh I can only remember hearing someone talking on cwr a few years ago talking about the players we nearly signed, so I'm probably completely wrong.

It's true, it was around 1995/6 in his early Monaco time, when he was a winger. He wasn't a regular in the team at the time.

Juventus paid £10.5m for him and sold him for £11m to Arsenal 8 months later. This was between January and August 1999, so you could theoretically say that we might have wanted to buy him instead of Robbie Keane (who we bought a few weeks later), but £11m was surely not possible for CCFC.

He was voted French Footballer of the Year in 1996, so that doesn't hold up at all.

And Hadji was voted African player of the year in 1998 - what's your point?
