Possible Site for the elusive new ground ? (1 Viewer)

I was driving past the Ricoh earlier today, towards the M6, when it struck me that would it not be a great place to build Sisus fairytale ground. That is, on the site of the failed Macro/ Leekes Superstore and now the home of a secondhand car sales depo. Not sure they would be happy, but the site has a history of failed businesses so I would not be surprised if this latest one failed.
The site appears to be outside of the City boundary, so out of CCC control. According to the signs it is in Nuneaton and Bedworth, which comes under Warwickshire.
As it is, the site of the building is probably not quite big enough, but the field immediately behind it looks like it’s not used for anything. If our owners purchased both the car depo and the field in question, then looking at google maps it could well be big enough to accommodate a new ground and some car parking.
I have of course assumed that any objection from CCC could be nullified by the fact there is a stadium less than half a mile away so any noise, travel requirements etc could be met as they must have been for the Ricoh to have been built.
In these days of madness I can at least dream
Question is, if the unlikely happened, would our stay away fans go or use the excuse it’s not in Coventry so they would not go!

No way would anything like that be allowed to be built in this day and age.

Neither Hearsall, Morris, Whitley or Sowe Common are actually registered as common land. I'd look at one of those first.

All of those sites that you mention could well be an option. But they all have one thing in common( no pun intended), they all come under the control of CCC and from what we have seen thus far, CCC are not exactly falling over themselves to assist CCFC locate a suitable site. But..... you never, know they maybe doing it “ in camera” just like their decision to sell the Ricoh to the insects

Perhaps the site is too small. Over the other side of the carriageway is more likely.

You are of course correct. But it’s funny how these things work out. If the authority or governing body are on board with it, these things happen a lot quicker. If they are not on board, then things take a lot longer.
Any application from CCFC for a new ground within the jurisdiction of CCC will need the support of the council or it will take forever. Then again, how long ago did Timmy promise us a new ground!

Safety concerns aside (what with the access to the common currently being given solely by two flimsy bridges over the M6 - only of which is by vehicle) - the Sowe Common and surrounding area would provide a decent matchday vibe. I could imagine people strolling from the chippy on Ringwood Highway and over the footbridge to watch a hard fought 1-0 victory over Stoke. The car park would probably have to be based at the cemetery.

If it were at the Whitley Common, then they might as well go to the Higgs since there is a lot of land off Whitley Pumping Station, but I understand that is to be used for housing.

Probably the most realistic of those is the Hearsall. Plenty of space and close enough to the city centre and train station for a decent Highfield Road like experience.

It is the ideal location, ticks lots of boxes, not many houses around, station within walking distance, walkable from city centre, on a number of bus routes from all over the city, pubs galore within walking distance, lots of commercial units nearby for possible parking. Hearsall Common though is common land so could be problematic but I’m not sure if the bottom end where the circus goes is.

Where are you getting that from? From what I can see, Hearsall Common is exempt from the Commons Register but doesn’t necessarily mean it’s an option for building (though I could be horrendously misinterpreting!).

Council response to an FOI request stated there no land in Cov on that register. Agreed it doesn't mean there aren't other restrictions but one of more onerous ones doesn't exist. I'd imagine for any of those Commons you'd have to replace the lost recreation ground if you built on it

I am still more than convinced a ground could be built on the Warwickshire side of the A46, opposite the TGI Fridays. Far enough north to avoid issues with the residents of the Binley Woods massive and not too far east to force a purchase order for the farm and its buildings.. Good road access to A45/M1 and M6 and reasonable bus travel from the city centre.

You have Canley Station too, almost on the A45, lots of parking at nearby industrial estate, Village Hotel, Craven St, Earlsdon, close to City Centre, great location, cant see it ever happening though
