Possible Westwood replacements (1 Viewer)

COVENTRY City manager Aidy Boothroyd confirmed yesterday that the club had not received any formal bids for goalkeeper Keiren Westwood,

however he could not rule out the possible sale of the Republic of Ireland international should a decent offer come in.

So with his departure looking fairly imminent, the Coventry Observer has created a list of five possible targets who become possible candidates to replace the highly rated 26-year-old shot-stopper.

1. Alex Smithies, Huddersfield Town
Having played in every Huddersfield Town match, league and cup, during the 2009/10 season and after receiving an England under-21 call-up last August, Alex Smithies has become one of the best
goalkeepers in League One.

Although the 20-year-old has stated he is more than happy playing for his home-town club, he could be persuaded to make the step up to Championship football and add to his already improving reputation.

2. Iain Turner, Everton
Iain Turner played two games for the Sky Blues at the beginning of this season when he signed on emergency loan from Premier League outfit Everton and is currently third choice keeper at Goodison Park.

He could easily be lured away from Everton after a string of loan spells and after making just four first-team appearances he could welcome the opportunity to re-rejuvenate his career at Coventry City.

3. Cammy Bell, Kilmarnock
Cammy Bell has established himself as one of the brightest young goalkeepers to come out of Scottish football after making his Scotland debut as a substitute for Craig Gordon during a friendly against Faroe Islands last November.

The 24-year-old quickly became Kilmarnock's number one choice goalkeeper after Mark Brown's loan deal from Celtic expired in January 2010, but he could be tempted to make the move to England to play Championship football.

4. Ross Turnbull, Chelsea
After a series of loan spells whilst with former club Middlesbrough, Turnbull joined Chelsea on a free transfer in 2009, but has been number two behind Peter Cech since his arrival.

He has made several first-team appearances for Chelsea since his move but could benefit with a season long loan at the Sky Blues, should Chelsea be willing to let him go.

5.Scott Loach, Watford (Long-shot)
This is very much a bit of an outside bet. Scott Loach, like Westwood, has built his reputation outside the Premier League and turned down a big money move to Tottenham last year in favour of guaranteed first-team football.

Boothroyd signed Loach from Lincoln City when he was Watford manager back in 2006, so if the Sky Blues manager was backed with funds and could persuade the England under-21 goalkeeper that Coventry have Premier League ambitions, then Loach could be make a surprise move to the Ricoh Arena.

I will be devastated if we lose Kieren Westwood! He is the only player we have that is actually Premiership quality and we need players such as him to get out of the Championship! Selling our best players is what Coventry do best - it's no wonder we have been stuck in that league the longest other than Preston North End. :(

There's no guarantee we will lose Westwood yet, granted with our past record it may look likely, at least wait til he's gone before replacing him?

Cammy Bell is the only one we might attract.

Absoloutly no chance of Loach coming to Coventry, I'm actually embarrassed for the Observer for even putting him on there
