ANDY Thorn has praised Manchester United prospect Reece Brown for his whole-hearted commitment to the Sky Blues cause.

The England Under-20 defender switched from centre-half to right-back against Sheffield United on Tuesday when injury ruled out Jordan Clarke – rehearsing his new role by staying on after regular training for a one-to-one coaching session with Richard Shaw.

“He was totally professional about it,” said Thorn; “we asked him to do a different job and he wanted to make sure that he was as well prepared as possible.

“When you get loan players coming from clubs like United you wonder if they think that it’s going to be easy at this level but he soon found out that wasn’t true and he’s been brilliant.

“He’s always asking questions, he wants to learn, he wants to do more. I sometimes think I’m going to have a heart attack when he slips into champagne mode but he’s going to be a great asset for us this season and I think we can help him become an exceptional player.”

He also mentioned how malaga needs to adapt, as we all agree because it's easy to see he will progress to be good for us, just needs a bit of experience for the english game. He's brave as anything!

Thorn is also delighted with the progress of Kevin Malaga who made his competitive debut for City when he replaced Brown at the centre of defence against the Blades.

“Kevin looked really good,” said Thorn; “he attacks the ball well and he’s a threat in the opposition box as well – with any luck he could have had two goals the other night.

“We’ve been teaching him and William Edjenguele how to play in our game because where they come from they tend to sit deep and we don’t want that.

“They’ve been doing a lot of work with Shawsy and in the last couple of pre-season friendlies I had Kevin and William sitting in the stands, seeing the style of centre-back play we want, because sometimes you can learn more by watching than by training.

“I’m very pleased with the way they are developing and we’ve got some competition for places now which is want you want because that keeps everybody on their toes.”

Brown has the hardest job on the pitch. He's playing out of position and has no support. He is a young player with little experience and has only just joined the club.

He should of played Richard wood at right back with him being more experianced and put Brown in at CB. I guess hew could of even left Brown out and put the Edge at CB with Malaga and woody at RB. I have a feeling though that the Edge is shite.

People on here do realise that Richard Wood is Left footed and would most likely be just as bad as Brown at RB? Just think back to the days when we had Marcus Hall playing at RB............

Jordan Willis has played right back before and I thought he looked quite decent in doing so.

True although has only played 33 minutes at right back for us - 26 vs Southampton in the 4-2 loss at the Ricoh, and 7 mins vs Ipswich at home when we lost 3-2.

A lot of people say Brown is arrogant and thinks he's above League 1 with no basis at all. This evidence shows that statement to be hopelessly off the mark in my view.

His performances have been poor but his heart seems to be in the right place at least.

Wood, the left footer?

Brown is meant to be able to play there, Wood can't and is too good not to play CB, Brown would just feck up at CB anyway, looked a liability in every game bar D&R!

It's not the system, it's his performance, don't make CHEAP excuses for him so you can have a go at AT.

It is'nt just Brown .While i've been relatively impressed with Malaga ,his positioning/reading /covering for the rightback position when Attack breaks down shows there is no unserstanding between the two .That combined with the narrow midfield and tiring Barton is where we are being exposed ,how many times last season did we see Keogh recover the situation of the exposed right flank?
