Just booked flight Manchester to Cologne 75 basic. Thursday through to Sunday.
Train from Cologne to Darmstadt can be bought for 34 Euro return. You can also also pay for a DB Bahn card for 3 months for 19.90 that gives 3 months travel with 25% off. I will use that for my short trip to Euro 2024 as well.

Trains are incredibly less than UK and have run to an extensive timetable. Can you imagine what the price of UK train would be for 197km?! Recently seen equivalent distances Manchester to London one way way in excess of 200 gbp. UK is so far behind other countries in the rest of Europe!

We are going to Cologne as well but trains look more expensive than that. Does that same train go to Frankfurt? Have you got a link?

Cheers mate - more expensive for the times we need on Friday and Sunday so will probably stick with the coach option

Darmstadt played a fixture home to Norwich last season with kick off at 18:30 on July 12 2023.
Stadium is 4.3 km from main train station .
If time is similar then the 21:34 is doable . They are later trains but 21:24 is an efficient train .

Booked up. Cheap flights due to Avios. Hotels aren’t too badly priced in Frankfurt so booked one for the three nights as a place holder. If we find something decent in Darmstadt will probably end up there. Frankfurt isn’t the nicest of places and we’re there for a couple of days for the Denmark game which will be more than enough. Going to be a good trip either way.

Our rail network is scandalous isn’t it. Brussels to Frankfurt cost me about 15 quid. Can pretty much guarantee it’ll run too which is always a bonus!

The area around the station and red light district isn’t the nicest (in fact it’s full of crack head zombies) but for some reason every Brit seems to gravitate to the shit Irish boozer, however, if you literally walk 5-10 minutes out of the area and you won’t see anymore of that.

The town centre is littered with high-end designer clothing shops and cafes etc.

Then jump in an Uber over the river to Rittegasse and there’s about 30 bars all within 3-4 roads cross crossing each other and it’s a great night out.

I’m thinking about getting the train from Switzerland - six hours with a few changes but only 30 quid. Would be very handy to know the time of KO for planning purposes.

We went in there the other week. Stunk of chip fat and was dark and gloomy so left after one drink.

Only saving grace was a very nice Chilean girl who was there studying and who’d lived in the UK for about 8 years on a hockey scholarship.

Darmstadt announced free tickets to families on low income this season 👏👏👏

Clubs should do more of this, even in part if it cannot do in full, going up to buy a few more today as we had a little more money in, not too late to donate and help our own attend games next year. Link at the top of the forum. 👆

Leeds Utd been advised their pre season matches in Germany are to be played behind closed doors and have asked fans not to travel - frustrating for those who have booked if same happens for Cov

That's disappointing if that becomes the case. It might explain why it's still listed as still to be decided. I did get a response from Datrmstatd but they still don't have a time.
I have my flight booked but not booked train yet based on time of game.

Think it’s due to German Police not having any time off during Euros and then these pre season games are just after. Doesn’t look great

Yeah saw this last night on the BBC. It appears to be all German friendlies to be played behind closed doors.
Luckily i had not booked transport yet and can cancel hotel on booking.com up to 24 hrs. I guess some people are gonna lose a lot of money on flights for this one.

booked flights already and non refundable. Will still go out there i think but massively frustrating

German clubs may now decide to play these matches at training venues instead of the stadia. May still be possible to watch from somewhere.

If anyone is going and stopping in Frankfurt avoid the proximity of the main train station like the plague - Was there for the England game was full of spoon burners, other side of the river is great though
Yes, Sachsenhausen is the old city and full of character and great places to eat and drink. Get your pork knuckle there!

Hold fire on your cancellations boys & girls! It's back on.....

CoventryLive, meanwhile, have been told by Coventry City that nothing has changed regarding their pre-season plans for Germany and that Leeds United’s situation does not affect their fixture in Darmstadt. Further, the two clubs are pressing ahead with arrangements to welcome travelling Sky Blues fans, and City are currently waiting for match ticket information to pass on to those planing to make the trip.

Isn't this more to do with Leeds having caused trouble out there previously. Probably can't be bothered with the hassle and cost of policing a pre-season game that is considered a high risk game.

I can't actually see they have any games announced over there yet? Just a tour/training week.
