It’s not ‘wanting’ at all from what I’ve seen. Great, world class player. But managing Chelsea was massive for him, way too premature so early in his career. Everton wasn’t right for him either.

Yeah I don't think anybody wants them to fail. World class player does not equal good manager.

Rooney has done ok. Lampard was average at Derby, awful at Chelsea and Everton. Gerrard did well at Rangers but terrible at Villa.

I like lampard , as a pundit he speaks tremendously well about the game , hes extremely knowledgeable, but Everton aren't in the position they are because of Frank, they have been mismanaged for years

It's at a boiling point

People mock him but he is an English manager who had an excellent international career. Its a bizarre mentality - same with Rooney and Gerrard - why people want these people to fail I just do not understand
I think it’s because there just isn’t a sense of meritocracy when it comes to deciding who gets big management jobs. Certainly not in the same way as there is on the playing side. Seeing people like Gerrard, Lampard and Rooney being constantly linked with top jobs off the back of their football careers - which impressive as they may be, tell us very little about their management skills - is bound to invite some schadenfreude, especially if they go on to underachieve.

No it's not his fault they've been mismanaged, but Benitez had them in 16th with only being allowed to spend £1m.

Lampard spent £60m and has them in 19th.

I like Lampard, he is very knowledgeable with the game and would make an excellent pundit. But needs to build a bit of credibility as a manager in the lower leagues before jumping straight back into a top flight club again

Everton are fucked anyway I think whoever is manager. Still spend £30m on average players and that will be a big lesson learned for his next role (if he ever returns to management)

Indeed. It's not about wanting them to fail, it's saying that just because you were a great player doesn't mean you'll be any good as a manger.

Lots of top managers weren't top class players, and that arguably helps them because it means they have to understand the game better if they want to be even a half decent player.

Same as defenders tend to be more into coaching/managing than attackers - the position needs a more rounded understand of positioning etc whereas flair players tend to be more spontaneous.

Id say Lampard and Rooney are potentially excellent managers - you?

lampard could easily be an England manager in the future - he’s academically bright and has achieved at the highest level. Other countries would see him as a future international manager - not make dumbass comments

Don't think we can tell if Lampard is a good or bad manager yet, but we can certainly tell he makes shocking managerial choices.

At Chelsea he has a reasonable win record. It’s safe to say Guardeolla wouldn’t achieve at Everton

The fact the owners even appointed Benitez shows how stupid they are. Everton are on the brink - a great club that’s facing oblivion

Did well at Chelsea where he had to foster a team without the help of transfers. Would have said he stuffed it up when he had money to spend, but how badly they're doing under Potter (generally considered a bright young manager who could go far) suggests Chelsea also have issues beyond the manager, but their budget stops that being so obvious half the time.

If Southgate can get the job then any of these guys could easily do it.

No.

I'll admit Lampard can talk a good game but that doesn't mean he's any good at actually managing players to get want he wants across.

Rooney I think had a bit of a free pass with Derby given their situation, but I think overall he's pretty average.

I also don't think Gerrard will be a top manager.

I’m not saying ‘not ever’ for Lampard, or Gerrard for that matter. I’m just saying ‘not yet’. He was never gonna turn down Chelsea after near success at Derby. But the jump in club class and culture was staggering.

Fair enough - which English born managers are better prospects?

They've been managing a while but age-wise are similar age to those.

Eddie Howe - though has been well backed in relation to others in respective leagues.

Graham Potter - but is having a hard time at Chelsea right now and how he deals with that will make or break him.

I'd also add Sean Dyche, although his style may not be a fit for every club

The lack of English managerial talent doesn’t make people like Lampard, Gerrard or Rooney any less pedestrian. In fact, insisting on giving the top jobs to people based on their playing career is probably one of the reasons for that lack of actual talent.

Listening to Kieran Maguire on talksport he said that if Everton got relegated it wouldn’t matter financially because of the parachute payments it just shows how ridiculous they are.

Anthony Gordon refusing to train at Everton and seems to be trying to force a move to Newcastle but they are unwilling to pay the unbelievable £60 million price tag, having seen him play a few times somebody has added a zero to that six.

Wow, if people pay that the games gone

Not sure what it is. Evertons absolutely ridiculous price tag on him getting to his head, or he’s just a massive c**t.

Probably something to do with Everton fans chasing him out of Goodison then barracading him in the street with road blocks whilst threatening him and his family

Id be inclined to refuse to represent the fuckers too

Looked class last season tbf, but looking like a one season wonder. Worth nowhere near £60 million as you have stated.
