Pressley and the CCFC Millstone (1 Viewer)

Having survived a harrowing season surely not experienced by any other similar football league club, what has CCFC to offer potential 2014/2015 squad players to remain at the club or transfers into the club.

Pressley will have to pull out all of his fabled rhetoric to convince players that playing in front of 1500 home fans (on a good day), an annual reducing wage bill, no recognised club premises and the current uncertainty beyond the JR day is conducive to a successful promotional challenge next season.

The millstone that is CCFC will surely seriously restrict the quality and indeed the quantity of players necessary for such a campaign and will be solely down to SP's expertise in operating within this shambles of a once proud club.

Apart from the great SP I would doubt that any other manager would undertake the poison chalice of managing our club as it stands so we should be eternally grateful for what we have at the moment as surely his unlimited exuberance, enthusiasm and commitment will gradually wear thin and we will eventually lose one of the best CCFC managers we have had over the last ten/fifteen years.

Some people seem to forget that. Its an atrocious time to manage Coventry City with what is going on so fair play he is willing to put up with it. In normal circumstances I would like to think it is a privilege to manage our club with our tradition and History. Look at it from this angle. Big if but if SP managed to guide us back to the Premiership at some point whilst off field issues sort out and we are back at the Ricoh, Imagine what a messiah he would be making CCFC the best we could be, a premier league team with a near full rocking Ricoh most weeks off the back of 2 promotions to get there. The manager to stuck with us through the shit and revolutionised the club with this philosophy. I think SP has the potential to be a modern day Jimmy Hill for our club.

Don't really think the way the club is run today is comparable to the Hill era. In those days managers did everything.

Now days Fisher & Waggot are the executives who negotiate salaries & contracts, set budgets and deal with the commercial side, SP basically does the coaching, scouting and has some PR responsibilities. Labovich handles the dark side of the PR war.

But if he did achieve what you set out he would indeed be the messiah, but I ain’t holding my breath. :D

Don't really think the way the football is run today is comparable to the Hill era either. i think the way football is currently run would be a bigger hinderance for a Jimmy Hill style revolution than Sisu even and in no way is that meant as a complement to Sisu.

Nice to dream, but try looking at things without those sky blue tinted glasses. I lost mine some time ago now.

You are right atrocious times for our club. Also football in general.

SP may have the potential to lead us from the wilderness, but recent history tells us managers aren't given the time these days. For instance managers get promotion then are sacked as not being high profile enough.

First blip in form and they are sacked. Mid rebuild sacked. Players seem immune from the sack.

SP has already being singled out as making poor signings. It may be justified, but do we really know who SP has actually wanted and who we actually got? Do we know who actually makes the decisions on players?

I just wonder how much Waggott is involved or is it SP? I would rather be clear and blame the right person.

I certainly feel we need someone to deliver a long term plan rather than chop and change.

Hill and seppella would have been great friends in hills chairman days. His visions and sisu's would be a heavenly match.

Are you trying to say that Jimmy wanted to move the club to Northampton and wasn't interested in the club at all as his only interest was in his family and investors.

That's stretching it even by your imagination.

I don't think Jim was that bad but he did make some stupid decisions. Anyone remember "Kill! Kill! Jimmy Hill!"? He wasn't always remembered so fondly.

also remember the steve hunt announcement/ the banning of back passes/ the all seater stadium/ the ian wallace connection/ washington diplomats/ £5 for away supporters - when home fans were charged £2

- my era he was definitely unpopular

Are you sure?

"Investing" all the money the club had into Franchise football in the states - failed
Wanted the name of the club changed - rejected by the football league
Rumoured that he wanted to move to the NEC and when couldn't built an abominable all seater stadium which held around 12,000
- always sold any play he could get any money for

Sound familiar?

I do not buy into your statement and I will sprinkle in some reality

There is a glut of pro footballers out there who will be out of contract in the summer so playing football is an absolute bonus to them in a very competitive world of football, also despite what some people think of Division 3 they are still having a decent lifestyle compared to most Mr ordinary.

The same can be said for managers so based on the above the team will come back after the summer break ready for a new season in the belief that they can continue their professional contracts.

Make no mistake that 99 per cent including the manger are quite happy where they are.

The millstone is what Pressley signed up for, he knew exactly what he was getting into, why else would he leave Falkirk or still be here? He was sold a future with Sisu like it or not im sure they have long term plans, I may be wrong but he wasnt blinded or blinkered when he signed up for us. The guy from Hibs all the recent scout additions, things are happening just not the way we as fans want them to or not as obvious or as fast as we would like.
Whatever the future holds PUSB

ITT we learn there are no heroes like the movies. Everyone has light and dark.

Still the best thing to ever happen to the club though. Seems to have understood that fans are at the heart of it all despite other missteps.

His second spell wasn't the best...Appreciated what he achieved as manager but he wasn't without fault in my eyes.
