I think he admired Alex Ferguson so much that he wanted to be him. Unfortunately you have to have the medals and respect before you can behave like Pressley did.

also think he was good at telling boards the vision and what they wanted to hear but in practice was massively out of his depth. Some of the signings were disgraceful.

To be fair though our most embarrassing was under John Sillett, so that Worcester result judged on its own isn't really a fair barometer.

I don't really get the triumphal jubilation at his failure that a few people on here seem to share. He managed us with dignity through the Northampton move and points deduction, producing an exciting team, scoring lots of goals. I know there is a view that he got lucky inheriting such an attacking force, but we should remember that team included Carl Baker who is/ was marmite to our fans and Wilson, who had never got a look in until Pressley arrived. I imagine Wilson will certainly view Pressley's arrival as a turning point for him and his career, which Pressley can look back on with some pride.

Leon Clarke's departure was a big loss to him, and looking back was a significant turning point. The team wasn't the same for the remainder of that season, and things obviously then went wrong back at HR, but as far as I know Pressley has never slagged the club off since he left, so I take no pleasure in his failure at Carlisle.
Agree with this, I think he managed us with dignity through a very difficult period. The sale of Leon Clarke at Christmas to our promotion rivals Wolves, derailed our own promotion drive. Interestingly, we played at Fleetwood in his first game after becoming their Manager, and posters who were there will remember that our fans applauded along with Fleetwood fans when he was presented to the crowd. I think a significant proportion of our supporters recognise that he worked really hard for us, in difficult circumstances.

He inherited that attacking team from Robins, went tits up when he brought in his own players. Plays boring as fuck football too. He'll be lucky to find himself another job.

Say that again. Go on, I dare you.

Football management must be one of the most lucrative jobs. Get a 2/3 year contract and get sacked after 12/18 months but get paid out. Then go again. Probably on a couple hundred K a year even at this level

Which makes you wonder why clubs are so keen to hire and then fire. It must cost them a lot of money. Surely more research should be done before they appoint someone to make sure that they are the right fit, that they can realise whatever the clubs ambitions are. Perhaps clubs should have more realistic expectations too. Very few clubs are winners each season. The big thing that any manager needs and seldom gets is time. It seems like success has to be instant or you are out (Parkinson at Sunderland under pressure already).
When the Carlisle directors looked at Pressley's CV I wonder what their expectations were?

Yeah his recruitment was patchy to say the least. We had Callum Wilson and Leon Clarke the season before and ended up with Simeon Jackson, McQuiod, Tudgay and Shaun Miller to start the next season. Appreciate he was never going to end up with two players of Wilson and Clarke’s quality again but it was poor.

Jackson on paper looked a good signing and I remember there was some excitement that he would get us a lot of goals

Not a bad bloke, but he was god awful as a manager. Was over the moon when he left. Pretty sure he had 2 10 game winless runs in the same season. Was also a manager who watched a completely different game to the fans.

I’m sure every time we’ve had a managerial vacancy since he left, there have been fans dying to have him back. Turner loves rolling out an article about ‘Elvis’. Makes me cringe every time. His surname isn’t even spelt in the same way ffs.

He inherited a forward line that was the envy of the league.

remember Jordan Clarke at centre half then as a forward! Guys an utter disaster in football.

In fairness to Pressley, he can take some credit for Wilson’s development with us. Had we not been in admin, I think we would’ve released him and who knows where Wilson would’ve ended up.

Pressley inherited some difficult circumstances and did well for the first half of that season at Northampton. But, that’s about it.
