This may well come back to bite Cov on the rear.
Thorn better know what he is doing!

Must admit it was a shock to me, especially as Ireland seems to be made of glass.

Reading between the lines about what was said at the fans forum I think that there was more to this than meets the eye.

Blimey, starting on the manager already? I would think there are far more important factors than whether we sign an averagely competent looking keeper

i think that was shortsighted but depends on what is going on with D Ireland. He looks good pre season so maybe he wants him to push into the 1st team this season.

Quirkey did look decent when he played, but we haven't really seen enough of Danny Ireland to give a proper comment on how good he is. To be fair, Oggy and Thorny see them both every day, so clearly think that when fit, Danny is a better overall keeper.
That said, I was still very surprised that we let him go. I wish him all the best and I do believe he will go on to be a good keeper.

I don't think it was about his height.. I think there was something else they're not telling us. Maybe he just didn't get on with the staff?

Too much is being made of this decision IMO.

He was number 3. He was number 3 for a reason. He hasn't been offered a new deal but Ireland has, so he's clearly not as good as Ireland.

The thing is, if first Westwood and then Ireland hadn't got injured, we'd never have seen Quirke play and he would have been released and no one would have batted an eyelid. It would have been just another youth player being released, happens every year. But because he made a few appearances, everyone seems to be outraged about the decision.

He seems like a nice kid and I wish him all the best for the future, but I trust AT and Oggy's judgement much more than the fans who have seen him play about twice.

He's shortsighted? Mmm, not ideal for a 'keeper...can't we get him some contact lenses or something?

When Quirke has been called upon, and dont forget he is 19,he has played to an excellent standard.
When our outfield players have made mistakes and that has been all too frequent over the last 10 years nothing has been made of it but this young lad has come in and plays out of his skin and then told he is being released it stinks!
What do city want from their acadamy players and more importantly what signal does it send out to Coventry kids who see this happening when Thorn comes out with,"we are looking to bring acadamy players through"

no for the umpteenth time it was his height, oggy pulled him aside and said he was never going to make a top flight keeper with his stature and he will have a good career if he drops down a league or two. He went up to the northern exit trials this week and also a club in oz might take him.

Chill out man. I've never seen you say that. I just find it hard to believe that it's the only reason.

lOOK AGAIN AT THE nORWICH GOALS - POSITIONALLY qUIRKE IS NOT WHERE HE SHOULD BE FOR EITHER GOAL. nOBODY CAN BE RIGHT ALL THE TIME, SOMETIMES YOU GET AWAY WITH IT SOMETIMES YOU DON'T, BUT THE LESS OFTEN YOU'RE WRONG THE BETTER YOUR CHANCES OF GETTING AWAY WITH IT

sORRY CAPS LOCK GONE FUNNY - AND CAN'T GET IT TO GO STRAIGHT - TRIED HOLDING DOWN SHIFT KEY AND STICKY-KEYS CAME UP.

Lets put this into context,Quirke was told before the Norwich game he was not going to get a contact yet at 19 years of age he still goes out plays well and make the "save of the season" according to sky".He was badly let down by hussey's lack of a challege when Norwich equalised and for the second Norwich goal the city defence parted like the red sea!!

i rememer this happening with ashley cain! he had made a few appearances and then got released and ppl were goin mad saying he was better thsan jordan henderson!

look where he is now, struggling to get in to a confrence team!

same will be said of quirke in a year or 2, even the nuneaton fans didnt rate him.

How is getting rid of the third choice keeper going to bite us in the rear?

He'll be forgotten by October, he's gone get over it.

I think Oggy advised on this one so we have to trust thier judgement. After all they work with the players day in and day out, so they must have known something we diidnt.
