Random Debate - Road Users/freak accidents (1 Viewer)

Driving home from work today, (tired and agitated btw) was being drastically slowed down by 3 horses and their owner, i have no problem with horses or their owners and always slow down and give plenty of space, but this led me to thinking, as a user of a road they do not as far as i know pay a road duty or insurance.

where would i stand for example if the horse was spooked and caused considerable damage to my car? i would of thought any responsible owner would have some sort of liability insurance but after trawling through google for a bit this seems not the case.

Another example i was thinking was if a deer ran out would i be able to claim on their estate?

working on callouts ruins my brains! what do you think?

Actually, if you want to start that debate, then car drivers should have less rights then us bikers. You pay VED (vehicle excise duty, Road Tax hasn't been around since 1937), which charges you for the amount of emissions your car produces, we don't produce emissions so aren't charged, the upkeep of roads and new roads are paid for through general taxation, so us bikers/walkers actually supplement you car drivers, If more people were less lazy and used their bikes then it would be best all round, as not only would the nation be fitter, less cars on the road, less wear on the road, means more money can be spent on better things (hospitals/schools) it may also make the enviroment better with less pollution. So please get of the road and give me MY road back. ;)

I rode horses in the Military many years ago and was always taught that a horse and rider ALWAYS has right of way over other road users, simply because it's an animal and harder to control in an emergency than say, a car. A few weeks back, there was a horse killed on the road a few yards from me (there's a riding stables nearby). Apparently, it was being led by a young girl and it took fright when a car approached at some speed, it reared up into the path of the car and was hit. What a waste of a beautiful animal. The car driver wasn't charged with anything. I assume their own insurance covered any damage.
I ALWAYS slow down for horses.
