O'Brien - 7 - Not much to do really
Grimmer - 8 - Extra point for the goal, once he is a bit better defensively and cuts out silly mistakes he will be very good. He may not be playing for us if he didn't do that though!
Willis - 7 - Was ok once on top of Dembele as he was their only threat really. Not really much to do, won some headers.
McDonald - 7 - Pretty solid and some good passes, won some headers
Stokes - 7 - Solid and consistent really, few wayward crosses
Kelly - 8 - Him and Doyle ran the show again.
Doyle (C) - 8 - Controlled the game, didn't do anything too complicated and kept everything simple
Jones - 8 - Good to see him start on their player and show a bit of grit when he got fouled and used it to want to take their player on more and more instead of hiding like he may have last season. Not sure if he was tired after we scored as he wasn't as in the game.
McNulty - 8 - Only player to be switched on enough for the goal
Vincenti - 7 - Goes unnoticed but has a decent touch for a big bloke
Beavon - 7 - He does a lot of running and hassling and it goes unnoticed really. Didn't really stand out

Subs

Hyam - 6 - Not much time really
Nazon - 6 - Again not much time, had a couple of runs and got a couple of shots away
Andreu - 6 - a few nice touches and control but on to get a feel

O'brien - 8: Looks so much more commanding during corners than anyone we've had in a long time. Distribution, however, is dreadful.

Grimmer - 8: Another point for the goal. Tidy game from him and looking increasingly better.

Rod - 7: passing was poor today, way too many aimless punts forward. Defensively solid, big fan of his so far.

Willis - 7: Again, solid.

Stokes - 7: typical Stokes performance, worked hard defensively and was an outlet going forward.

Doyle - 6: disappointed at times with Doyle today. Passing was terrible during the first half. Still nice to see some bite in the midfield.

Kelly - 7: Another sound performance and his corners were much better today.

Jones - 8: How refreshing is it to see him full of confidence running at defences. Should be too good for most teams in this league, beat his man everytime today.

Vincenti - 7: Won the majority of balls in the air, which is evidently valuable. Not a massive fan of him being out wide still. Will he interesting to see if he stays in the team when Andreu is settled.

Beavon - 8: Superb second half. Showed some pace which I haven't seen before.

McNulty - 8: Superb second half. Touch was better and ran out the defenders. Possible man of the match for me.

Subs:

Hyam - 7: did what he needed to.
Duck - 6.5: some poor shots, but very direct and unafraid to run at the defenders.
Andreu - 7: Looks way ahead of anyone already. His first touch is immense. Very, very excited about this lad.

O'Brien - 7 - Not much to do. Looked commanding but did have a couple of go's at smashing the ball straight into an attacker whilst kicking.

Grimmer - 8 - Good header for the goal. Defensively OK, looks a decent player.

Willis - 7 - Did fine. Shame to see him pick up another injury.

McDonald - 7 - Looks solid and good on the ball.

Stokes - 7 - Good to see him back after last year. Better than this level.

Kelly - 8 - Looks a good partnership in the middle with Doyle. Gives the defence extra protection.

Doyle (C) - 8 - As above.

Jones - 9 - MOTM for me. He really could be a key player this year. He had a quiet first 20 to 30 minutes, but once he switched to the right wing he was terrorising their defence. Looked like he could create something every time he got the ball.

McNulty - 8 - Great awareness for the goal. Don't think he'll score loads but between him and Beavon think we'll be OK.

Vincenti - 6 - Should have had a penalty. Looks clumsy at times and gave the ball away a couple of times. Not bad, just not as good as some of the others.

Beavon - 7 - Was taken out through on goal at one point. Should have been a penalty and a red card. Other than that, ran a lot but doesn't look a huge threat.

Subs

Hyam - 7 - Not much time but didn't look any less solid when he came on.

Nazon - 7 - Again not much time, but looks a threat.

Andreu - 6.5 - a few nice touches when he first came on but nothing really stood out. Does look like he'll be a very good addition once he beds in though.

All in all a pretty good performance, barring the first 30 minutes or so. Once we took charge there was only one winner. Ref was absolutely dreadful. We had at least 2 stonewall penalties in the second half and possibly one in the first against Jones (harder to be sure due to distance but looked a foul).

Willis was just cramp according to Mark Robins.

O'Brien - 7. Assertive again, though it appears he has been going to the Lee Burge School of Goalkeeper Distribution

Grimmer - 7.5. A very solid performance, capped off with a goal from a corner

McDonald - 7. Pretty good

Willis - 7. Also pretty good

Stokes - 7. Also also pretty good (really there's not much I can say about our back four in this match)

Kelly - 7. Won plenty of the ball and made a real nuisance of himself. Also his corner delivery was better than last week

Doyle - 7. More of the same, right down to allegedly offering to fight some of the home fans outside of the ground. He and Kelly are a very effective combination for this level; while we do sacrifice some central creativity, they give us some real bastardry in the middle, and outside of the occasional misplaced passes they generally keep things simple

Vincenti - 6.5. There was a passage of play in the second half that summed up my Vincenti experience so far. He had the ball on our left, and basically nearly lost it (partly under challenge, partly because he's like Bambi on ice). Yet somehow after clumsily tangling his giant legs everywhere, he sprayed an almost perfect ball out to Jones on the right (who only just failed to bring it under control). He does some things really well (and if he hadn't been fouled in the box possibly could have scored) but then has moments where you just shake your head. I still maintain he'll be a useful player for us though

Jones - 8. My personal MOTM. Took the game (and the Grimsby fullbacks) on at every opportunity. Confidence is a wonderful thing, and I hope he keeps his high

Beavon - 7. He was alright. Personally reckon that he and McNulty seemed to be more on the same page this week as opposed to last week. If we were to drop someone for the Duck to start I think it would be him though.

McNulty - 7.5. Awareness for his goal was first rate. His second half was excellent. As already stated, I thought he and Beavon worked better together this week than last.

Subs
Hyam - 6.5. Like last week, I didn't even notice him. Also like last week, that is meant as a compliment.

Nazon - 6.5. Certainly wasn't afraid to shoot in his short time on the park! I like him because he provides a real X-factor compared to our other forwards. When he goes back to Wolves in January, I hope we can find something similar

Andreu - 6. Agree with others that, even though he didn't have a huge impact, there were a few glimpses of his quality.

Overall, despite the very shaky start, it was a fairly comfortable win. I think Grimsby aren't necessarily terrible, they have a couple of very good players (Dembele in particular). If they had an actual football manager they'd be alright!

(Also FWIW, I don't think the Jones first half challenge was a penalty...that Vincenti one was a shocker though.)

That was a great result; Grimsby won last week and to have so much of the ball and go up there with intent was wonderful to see. There doesn't seem to be any other side that is going to walk away with this league - we are the only team with a 100% record so far. I'm not saying we will walk away with it but it's there for the taking. Strange that Yeovil won though; I thought that they may be whipping boys after last week.

We won't walk it I don't think and we will have a number of tough matches for sure, but can you really see us losing lots of games this season?

There's no-one we should fear and I don't think you can look at any team and say they are going to run away with it.

Robins has brought in physicality, strength, skill, pace and spirit this summer and even if you don't think automatic promotion, you have to think we can make top 7 don't you?

Very early days still of course, but I do agree with this. We just look very comfortable and rarely look threatened or under pressure. In fact, we have had just one shot on target against us so far over the two games.
