Burge 5 - looked nervous throughout and the goal
Grimmer 6 - but more for effort
McDonald Hyam 7 each - the basis for our first half
Haynes 7 would have been lower but for the Cruyff turn
Doyle 8 - What an engine
Shipley 7 one of his best games
Bayliss 5 one of his poorer quieter games
Vincenti 6 - again did ok, and yes he scored
Mcnulty 7 Great free kick, and kept trying to add to it
JCH 6 best effort from him so far

Burge 5 - so hesitant in the first half coming to collect anything and made everyone feel anxious. Made a good save at 2-1.

Grimmer 7 - got forward well, linked up well with Vincenti. Won so many second balls

Mcdonald 8 - won pretty much every header all night.

Hyam 7 - solid enough.

Haynes 7.5 - had a really good game

Vincenti 7.5 - best game I’ve seen him in a city shirt. Link up play was great plus a goal

Doyle 7.5 - solid game, helped boss the midfield. Leader.

Bayliss 6 - looked a bit lethargic but makes such a difference having a forward thinker in midfield for our overall performance

Shipley 8.5 MOTM - was quality tonight. Sad to see himsubbed but guessing it was fitness related

JCH 7.5 - battled well up top. Battles well and quality is so much higher than Biamou

McNulty 7.5 - ran his socks off pressing the Luton centre backs and a great free kick

Reid 6.5 - pushed on well and tracked back better than I’ve seen him before. Looks like he’s trying to make amends.

Kelly 6 - didn’t do too much

Ponticelli N/A

Robins 7.5/10 - Happy with tonight. I know people will say we threw two points away but the performance was quality and was one of the most enjoyable games at the Ricoh for a while. A point against Luton isn’t a bad result. I know refs get stick a lot on here, some times for me it’s a bit harsh, but good God tonight’s ref was shite

Flappy McFlapface - 5 - Was fine up until the clanger. For the fortunately disallowed free kick he backed so far into the goal that one of the stewards actually asked to see his ticket. Thought he played well for the other 89.5 minutes but his mistake was the catalyst.
Grimmer 6.5 - Beaten too easily down the outside from a standing start for the 2nd goal. It's the major weakness in his game. Typically battling for the rest.
McDonald - 7.5 - thought he and Hyam dealt with Hylton and Collins well.
Hyam - 7 - Did ok but guilty of panicking 2nd half and hammering a few balls straight out. Had a couple of good games recently but I would always fancy going up against him if I was a striker.
Haynes - 7.5 - Amazing turn for the goal and some decent link up with Shipley and then Reid. Even did a sliding tackle. Laziest defensive player I have ever seen tracking back though, barely jogs.
Doyle - 8 - He was ticking tonight from the off and though his passing was decent, mainly due to having a midfielder to pass to in front of him, rather than next to him.
Shipley - 7.5 - Really poor for the first 10 minutes and then it all clicked.
Bayliss - 6 - He's not really stood out for a few games now but he did the defensive work well and got higher up the pitch. His positioning offensively was one of the major reasons we played so well first half.
Vincenti - 6.5 - 7.5 first half, 5.5. 2nd half. Lively and neat with the ball at his feet but 2nd half looked like he didn't have many minutes in his legs recently.
Mcnulty - 6.5 - 2 months ago McNulty would have had a hattrick tonight. Couple of mazy runs with poor finishing at the end of them. Thought the free kick was very lucky - you don't score many from that close that bounce before they go in!
JCH - 7 - Mixed bag for me tonight. Did a lot of things very well, especially first half - physical and direct running. Completely left his man for their first goal. Very good chance to win it towards the end but missed a poor free header that he should be expected to score from. Headers were poorly directed and ball didn't stick much 2nd half.

I just can't understand this thing against Burge. Yes, he could have done better for the first goal, but he was also let down by the marking, couldn't do anything about the second goal, made a brilliant save 1 v 1 when it was still 2 -1. Yet Shipley scores an 8.5/7 when he was guilty of giving the ball away several times and his crossing was poor.
Our crossing all night was not good, and the header that JCH had towards the end was powder-puff at best - we haven't really looked dangerous at crossing/heading all season.

I think Burge did okay overall, but that first first goal of theirs was so crucial and changed the match, so unfortunately he does indeed need at least two points knocking off for that.

Thought McDonald was excellent tonight and though Shipley played well in the first half he faded badly in the second.

McDonald was my MOTM, though a number of players played well tonight.

Burge 6 at fault for first goal trying a superman impression. Seemed to lose confidence in 2nd half.
Grimmer 6 energetic but wasteul at times.
Hyam and McDonald 7 both played quite well against possibly the best two strikers in the league.
Haynes 7 First half was one of his best games. Second half out of position a few times wrong side of his man especially on the 2nd goal.
Vincenti 5 Was in the game for the first 25 minutes then went AWOL . 2nd half atrocious no commitment and tried to hide. Pulled out of loads of tackles.
Bayliss 6 looks as though he could do with a rest got caught in possession far to often.
Doyle 8. Good performance all round from him.
Shipley 6 Good first half second half looked as though he stayed in the dressing room.
McNulty 8 Didn't stop running cause their back 4 loads of problems nice free kick.
JCH 7 Good game far better with the exception of a pathetic dive in the box when the should have Ben looking to score or pull it back.
Reid 6 Can' see the point of putting Reid on if you don' keep feeding him. His strength is running at players with the ball but we just don' give it to him.
Robins 6 Got the team on the front foot for the beginning of the match but failed to keep the momentum going. Should have subbed Vincenti far earlier as we needed some strength and someone prepared to run.
Tbh would have accepted a draw at the beginning but so disappointed with our second half we just allowed them to come on to us. When will we learn attack is the best form of defence.

I think first half was up there with best played this season. Forced back second half but still had chances to get the 3rd goal.

Burge 7 at fault for first goal but great save after
Grimmer 5 gave away free kick for first and 2nd was cross from his flank. Couple of dodgy passes first half nearly cost us.
McDonald 7 seems lost postionally at times
Hyam 6 his lack of pace is an issue
Haynes 7 skills for our first. But then undone for the equaliser
Doyle 8 motm his fitness levels deserve respect
Bayliss 5 better in the middle was looked light weight tonight and very tired
Vincentti 6
Shipley 7 good first half
Mcnulty 7 again could have had 2 or 3 I like that always gets or makes chances for himself
Clark Harris 8 thought he was great

As I just said above, that mistake changed the game. The saves he made after he probably wouldn't have had to make if he hadn't made that initial mistake.

It wasn't a howler like some of his others, but was still a mistake unfortunately. Keepers all make mistakes, but this one was at exactly the wrong time and we looked good for the win until that mistake happened.

I have nothing against Burge. Think he’s an okay keeper for this league, thought he was poor tonight

Grimmer at fault for first and second goal.
Needless free kick putting Burge and the defence in a position they didn’t need to be and didn’t close for the second like numerous other costly losses this year. Cambridge for one.

As for Reid, go look at their 3 crosses then remove the 60 degree lob wedge boots you wear. JCH rose at the end to head the ball but it had no pace so he cannot get anything on it towards goal.
Whilst we have limited choices, the substitutes weaken us but I know Bayliss was out on his feet and Shipley probably still injured. Kelly booked straight away and therefore ineffectual in what he was put on to do.

Agree on Grimmer. On that one goal he should have showed the player inside and not let him go down the left and get the cross in beyond him.

Burge 7, dont understand the criticism, think hes been very good last 4 games. The setiece delivery from Luton for luton were excellent. Superb saves, albeit a mistake.

Grimmer 5, going forward good, but defensively awful.
Mcdonald 8, thought he was back to his commanding best.
Hyam, 7, did ok commendable, still rather have Wilis.
Haynes, 7 Very good going forward, at fault for their equaliser, but his best performance for me.
Shipley 8, Very solid all round.
Doyle 8 motm.
Bayliss 6, not at his best, but definitely his best position.
Vincenti, 7, would have been higher but tiredbadly.
Jch, 7, his best game holding the game up,
McNulty, 7 not quite at his best last few games stilla huge menace.

Reid, 6
Kelly, 5

Robins 8, commendable attacking line up. Amd continuing to surge forward untill game was over.

Easily one of the best games we seen at ricoh this season. Two teams for me who wanted to play football.

The criticism of Burge was clearly down to that mistake though surely?

He didn't have a bad game at all besides, but that mistake changed the game and therefore to my mind he has to be scored lower.

Be exactly the same if a defender gave away a stupid penalty.

My first impression was that it was a brilliant cross, curling away from the keeper but close enough to tease him to come out for it, so not entirely burges mistake. But I haven't seen a replay yet so I may change my mind.

I thought their crossing was superb, where as ours bar 1 was shocking.

The trajectory was brilliant, is started off straight at him which is what tempted him to come out but curled so much it was virtually going straight down the line of the 6 yard box. That said, even though it curled late he still got there but also misjudged the height. Plenty of daylight between him and the ball there still.

McDonald is there but hidden by Burge and Rod has a lot to blame for the set up of the free kick which was really ugly - McDonald is the only one actually marking his man (downward black arrow) but playing everyone else onside by 2 yards. JCH also a yard too deep and lets his man (red arrow and goalscorer) get a run on him, needs to be closer and holding him up there. Haynes is ball watching and his man is behind him (horizontal black arrow), presumably he thinks the defensive line is good. Vincenti also the wrong side of his man.
In the build up Hyam, our 4th choice CB, is the only person visibly organising and ushering players out, totally ignored.

I Think possibly Robins one criticism was not using his third substitute.

Stokes for Haynes, but saying that Haynes almost amends by scoring at the death.

Or bring on Barrat for Vincenti. As Vincenti was leaving Grimmer exposed during 2nd half.

Collins was always going on Haynes , all game. Paid off for him at the end. Their set plays are always nothing short of very good. Got lucky with disallowedgoal too.

He did use all three subs though didn't he? Ponticelli, Reid and Kelly.

JP was in 89th minute once they equalised. Much sooner hardly time to have any impact. But still in that 3/4 looked lively. Should have have been made 20 mins earlier.

He certainly had a shocker for our 2 goals! Should be dealing with Bayliss' shot much better than he did for the first. Shot was clean but straight at him from his weaker foot. He has 3 options - catch it, palm it over the bar or round the post. Instead he limp wrists it and it drops inside the 6 yard box still. As for the 2nd, if a keeper is beaten by a free kick on his side of the goal that barely gets off the floor and bounces before it goes in, then he should expect a bollocking.

We were also lucky with our second, we only got the free kick because McNulty stood on the ball and fell over. Another appalling performance by the officials, the linesman not seeing the Luton player kick the ball out on the side towards the end is possibly the most incompetent thing I've ever seen.

Yeah, at the time it didn't look like a free kick as McNulty stood on the ball.

I didn't think it was a foul for them for their 1st so it levelled it.

All game though the 3 officials were shocking, the goal kick incident was just as incompetent. In the first half that lino missed about 4 offsides, every ball we played forward their defenders would push our strikers and Vincenti with 2 hands and it took about 6 or 7 of those before it was noticed.

Yeah, that pushing was ridiculous. It was always just a little nudge in the back, but very clearly apparent to everyone in the ground.

Still happy with a point in a game of two halves and to have taken 4 points from what I feel is the best side in the league.

Ref and his officials were shocking as per, and added the pressure upon us in the second half buying everything Hylton cried for. Luton quality came through tho as there depth of squad proved key.

He is always clueless on the flight of the ball.
It is further shown when deciding to come out with the ball coming towards him.
I'm not sure if you can teach this though.

Burge and JCH at fault for the first but both made amends throughout the game.

Haynes at fault for the second but made amends throughout the game.

Doyle MOTM. Good team performance, back in the playoffs proper, bring on Saturday!
