Me personally??Im not arguing the rules. Im saying the rules are stupid and made by people watching slow mo replays with no basis in reality. What do you want Thomas to do there? Not make a challenge?
Probably yepHow could Thomas have made that challenge Pete? What’s the approved way? Just let the man go past?
Me personally??
he has to
As a ref I think it’s a free kick so pen
Probably yep
Absolutely agree with this. Not the best refereeing performance in general. For me, the ref was too lenient first half. Was allowing them to foul persistently without sanction. He had to pull a yellow earlier.
As ref Pete, if the keeper comes sliding out and makes a similar clearance is it a pen?Me personally??
he has to
As a ref I think it’s a free kick so pen
Still don’t get this follow through thing. Have people ever kicked a ball? If you’re trying to snap your foot back after contact you aren’t kicking the ball properly. You should kick through the ball.
Genuinely baffled.
And it's not even like the Palmer penalty last week where the contact is near instant.
He's miles from the player when he makes contact.
He got booked for kicking the ball away.Didn’t think Palmer’s booking was a foul never mind a card either
So are defenders not allowed to any more?Is one way of seeing it yes
Dewsbury-Halls knacker sack?Where was he meant to put his leg after he kicked it?
One job to do - they had one job and couldn't manage it once but utterly capitulated THREE times!!!It was absolutely never a penalty but turns out the red card was the more significant decision in the game anyway.
Hawkeye HallYou can usually spot 'em from 200 yards away as I recall
This. It's a contact sport.Im not arguing the rules. Im saying the rules are stupid and made by people watching slow mo replays with no basis in reality. What do you want Thomas to do there? Not make a challenge?
I'd like you in the VAR room. One word review - c**t.
I am available.I'd like you in the VAR room.
Ball was there to be won, it was won, fairly. You could argue reckless but for me he was there way in advance of the attacker. If it was a 50/50 it may be a different story. As a ref is there any challenge he could make? What if the ball hadn’t ricocheted back and just went off for a throw in or something?
Good lad.I am available.
When you make a tackle it’s all split second stuff but you do have time to make a decision. You can crash through the player or curtail it a bit. Nowadays you have to go for the latter. Thomas chose the former. Go back 30 years and there’s not even a question and it’s a great tackle. But, like it or not (and I don’t) the game nowadays doesn’t allow it. It’s a non contact sport. Defenders have to play in what I would describe as five a side mode - you can’t go to ground.Still don’t get this follow through thing. Have people ever kicked a ball? If you’re trying to snap your foot back after contact you aren’t kicking the ball properly. You should kick through the ball.
Genuinely baffled.
At least but I was behind that goalIf he’s giving that penalty he also has to give their keeper a foul and a booking too.
MmmmmThis. It's a contact sport.
Have to be clever but you can’t follow throigh and cause serious injurySo are defenders not allowed to any more?
I will. I am, generously speaking, half cut. I will miss understand!Mmmmm
Read law 12
I don’t see anything unclever about the defending - how else is he supposed to get the ball? (Especially considering he did get the ball)Have to be clever but you can’t follow throigh and cause serious injury
