Yes exactly that where they ref younger age groupsReally? Do they have to get an actual qualification? Do they have to do stuff like reffing lower age groups?
Makes you wonder why there's so few refs available and also why they give so much grief to refs.
He’s in a poor position to see it and the assistant is the other side
Their player is a coward he knows he can’t be seen and he takes a cheap shot
Sometimes the players need to take things into their own hands
Should be yellows but that ref got castigated by the press and forced to apologise for booking a player for what refs have been told they must this season
Not even sure why he was reffing. Didn’t he admit he got it wrong the week before in the Rotherham game? The ref at the Utd wolves game did that and got dropped for the week, I’m sure.Like they did when their striker committed about 7 bookable offences and nothing happened?
It's in the thread aboveHave you got a link?

This is the myth. How many players in their 20s end up getting released and not making it? Wonder if they've ever considered training up some of those and fast tracking them to EFL level as they already know the game. With all the money in the game it shouldn't be impossible to have half decent officials occasionally
Do you need to check you glasses prescription?Yeah, alright, I see it now!
Please read I’m defending the art of refereeing not this refereeWhy are you trying so hard to defend him?
He should be castigated if he puts in performances like that.
But that would be the point in teaching them how to ref, wouldn’t it? So they learn the laws. This is the myth.
Most players are shit refs as they don’t know the laws but think they do
It’s a bloomin hard job
It’s impossible to get every call correct
It’s impossible to make decisions that all sides agree on
So you have to manage what you can - position is so important and angles to see what is happening on and off the ball with all 22 players
So I don’t think the ref sees that you’d hope if someone does a red will be given
If they want toBut that would be the point in teaching them how to ref, wouldn’t it? So they learn the laws.
How many ex-pros become EFL or PL refs? Not sure there's a big enough sample size to conclude that players make shit refs. It works pretty well in other sports, not really sure why there's a reason that with the proper training it couldn't be the same in football. This is the myth.

Something needs to be done. The EFL are keen to keep telling everyone how the Championship is one of the most popular and most watched leagues in the world, the standard of officiating is embarrassing.
It shouldn't be about if they want to. The laws are an integral part of the game they want to play. If they want to make it as a pro football so much proving they have an understanding of its laws and how to apply them isn't much to ask..If they want to
I may be wrong but not everyone has the best attitude to be a good competent ref and having football talent is not one of the most important skills
Of course, but some will. You’d have a large enough group to be able to pick those good enough. If they want to

Would they get abuse if they weren't so shit?
Some of its appalling, grown men threatening teenagers.
When you're on your own and everyone on the sideline is trying to intimidate you it's not helping anyone
Especially when every player on the pitch is shit as well why should the ref be any different.
Well yeah I mean more the ones at pro games

I'm all for the clamp down but with everything there needs to be consistency.Yeah, but we need to encourage people to get involved in the amateur game and develop those who show promise in the hope of havinga larger poool of better refs.
Part of that development shouldn't mean getting chased out of the car park post match by the pissed mob from the bar of the dog and duck!
I noticed the clamp down on dissent in the games yesterday, hopefully that filters down.
Yeah bang onI'm all for the clamp down but with everything there needs to be consistency.
I'm all for the clamp down but with everything there needs to be consistency.
It's all well and good stopping dissent but if it means missing simple decisions instead like in our game.It looked quite consistent from what I saw yesterday but obviously that's a small samesize and it's only been introduced for 2 or 3 weeks
Is the punishment you want financial? It's all well and good stopping dissent but if it means missing simple decisions instead like in our game.
What punishment will the ref get?
For the refs?Is the punishment you want financial?
I don’t understand

For what failures?For the refs?
They get dropped for a week then back again.
I think it’s down to our hatred of authorityWe're talking about 2 different things.
What I'm saying is that in order to improve the pool of refs we've got to stop the shit they're putting up with at amateur level so they're in it for the long haul and we can develop them.
The reffing at the moment at pro level is awful, but I think the current crop are beyond redemption, we need to bring through a new generation who can do the job to an acceptable standard, and yes, they should be answerable for their mistakes.
Makes you wonder why Sakamoto/the players didn’t make a bigger deal of it. I genuinely just thought it was a body check at the time.
I think it’s down to our hatred of authority
Refs are no worse than the players at the top of their profession
Fadz caused their goal shouldn’t be playing next week lol
Did you watch the game yesterday? Plenty of failures. For what failures?
I think if you score 50 or less you have to say why
You need to do the course and ref a few games to see how impossible it is to do
Every decision or non decision will be wrong for half of those involved or watching
Out of 4-500 decisions how many would you accept as being wrong to drop someone
Wonder if there’s not a bit of Japanese “mustn’t grumble”
Not all but yes I understand there wereDid you watch the game yesterday? Plenty of failures.
