Pakistan in turmoil because the devout want to kill a blasphemer. Hope the poor woman gets out unharmed and the brave lawyers escape retribution. Isn't religion wonderful.

Indeed, and some places interpret it in pretty medieval way. They say that with the advent of high speed methods of communication that religious indoctrination should decline, hmmmm........

there's already been several people killed for supporting her. Her initial crime was to drink from a cup that a muslim had drank from, it's hard to believe this is the 21st century.

Agreed. It is a shocking story, but in so many ways completely ridiculous.

The man who killed the Govener who spoke out in support of this poor woman, has now had a shrine built in his honour.

You couldn't make it up.

People can say what they want about the UK. But we have freedom of speech. And a part of it is being able to say what people don't want to hear without retribution. That is as long as it isn't unlawful or full of hatred.

Try saying you are right wing and express your opinions/views,see how this freedom of speech lasts

right wing views are expressed everywhere.
Mail, Express, Star, Telegraph, Sun all right wing.
Plenty of right wing representation on panel programs, QT, Andrew Marr, This week for example. To make out right wing views are being suppressed is nonsense.

There's that old "religion of peace" at it again.
Still, I must be an islamaphobe for disagreeing with this barbaric behaviour. In fact...... I'm sure Deleted member 5849 will be along any moment now. His phone will alert him that somebody is bad mouthing Islam.

This NW's point clearly is though that you can't paint everyone with the same brush.

There are so many peace loving Muslims out there.

The ones we are talking about is this instance though are a very scary and hateful bunch indeed and the thinking here is mediaeval at best.

Half of British muslims want to criminalise homosexuality. 1/4 want Sharia Law.

I don't think the "there's just a few bad eggs" rhetoric is going to do help in the conversation on how to deal with a large section of our society that are not only offended by aspects of our way of life but also want to end it.

So 3/4 don't want Sharia law and half wanting homosexuality criminalised doesn't mean they want to see people hanged inot the streets.

My missus wants to see homosexuality criminalised and I'm sure loads of Christians do too.

Lots of Christians do not compared to Muslims - why divert from the perfectly legitimate statement

Its not just a few bad eggs though Otis. Just in this instance, it's an entire community trying to kill somebody for believing in a different sky fairy.
1/3 of British Muslims think it's acceptable to use violence against people who mock the prophet Mohammed.

What is going on in these people's minds? My god has been insulted by a human being so he will be impressed with me if I kill this human preferably with extreme violence. I will be rewarded in heaven for this necessary murder. What kind of fucked up vengeful and vain god do these idiots think is worth believing in?

Is their god so weak it has to be protected from being upset by mere mortals?

But I am talking world wide in terms of Muslims, not just Pakistan.

Obviously a massive, massive problem in countries such as Pakistan.

As you say, a third in this country think it's acceptable. That means two thirds don't.

I bet in Pakistan that proportion is at very least totally reversed.

And anyway, everything is just fine. The Pakistan information minister over there says her life is not in any danger at all.

So we can all rest easy.

I've worked with a lot of Muslims over the years and to say the majority are backwards fuckwits is an understatement. Stuff like this doesn't surprise me at all.
