Had a decent partnership with Neil Martin but for some reason despite forking out £72,500 for him a big fee in those days Noel Cantwell never really settled with him. In his three and a bit years as manager Cantwell brought in those two plus Chris Chilton, Tony Hateley, Bobby Graham, Gerry Baker, Brian Joicey all centre forwards and decent fees !

John O’Rourke was a favourite of mine too, often playing alongside Neil Martin, and part of the fine team that took us into Europe. Didn’t he get a hat-trick in our first European game away to Trakia Plovdiv in Bulgaria? What brilliant days they were. RIP
