Longer term possibly. Certainly fits the bill for leadership & experience.

Huge salary for a short term loan on a player not played competitively in 2 years though. Especially as the season is over. Is he a realistic summer signing given he has another year on a £45k p/w contract? Is he prepared to rip that up for approx. 50% reduction here? Do we need to abandon a high line/pressing to accommodate his lack of pace?

Yeah because our defenders now are rapid.

I'd bet he beats lati in a race

He won’t have to rip anything up. Palace will have to reach a settlement with him. The less he plays the less chances he commands much interest in the summer and the more Palace pay. A subsidised loan now works for them both.

You & I would probably beat Lati in a race with our legs tied together.

I said in the match thread we got away with it as Norwich didn't have a striker on the pitch for a lot of the game but they got in behind him a fair few times.

Possibly.
Let's see what happens.

He's not even what I would call "experienced" total of 194 first team appearances. Liam Kitchen has played c50 more games than him.

Letting in 2 goals every week by the looks of it.

I’d imagine what he lacks in significant on the pitch experience he makes up for being around elite environments where excellence is expected

Pretty sure there will be struggling PL teams or top Championship teams after Holding. Hope I'm wrong.

He's older, been around football longer and has played at a much higher level with much better coaches.

I'd imagine it's not so much the on pitch experience we'd be looking at him for, it's more the fact he knows what's expected and needed to compete at a high level and that he'd hopefully be able to give some of the lads at the back a kick up the arse when needed.

A name and history rather than ability.

Rather like our manager.

other than a whole season at Bolton and over 160 for Arsenal, including European games - a fair amount of experience there

Bolton was ten years ago and his debut season! And he only played 26 times not a full season. 20/21 he played 30 games for Arsenal which is by far the most, next two were the next two seasons at 15 and 14 appearances.

technically 9, but still more experienced than younger loan signings, and should be of benefit to the younger lads in our defence I’d imagine

either way, time will tell, if this is in fact a true target too

It’s reported in enough places that there’s probably something to it. On paper he’s a decent signing. Just worried about mentality of a player that is a lifetime reserve and immediately falls out at a new club so bad he’s training with the kids.

Think this signing is more hopeful than anything, surely going to be a wage issue again ? Like the summer, every decent player we were after went somewhere else

Forget Istanbul in 2005, Rob Holding’s hairline is the best comeback in football…

Fair, let’s hope if he does sign he’s got enough to prove any doubters wrong

Definitely a concern, as is the fact he seems to have fallen out with Palace, (remember the last defender we signed from a London club where there was an acrimonious parting of the ways).

But if he can get back to anywhere near his best he'd be just what we need.

From what I saw from Holding he got Arsenal first team games when they had injuries. He dropped a good few howlers and his confidence was affected. Hardly the type of defender we need

He’s played his games in the Premiership so he should very good at the championship level.

I think he’ll be fine in terms of quality, it’s his attitude I worry about in this squad. Doesn’t need more bad apples?

Same as any ITK stuff it’s rumour but what’s not rumour is the obvious lack of leadership and professionalism in the squad.
