Robins “He ( King ) came in and he really wanted to make a strong impact, and still wants to make a strong impact in every aspect of the business. He’s a brilliant, brilliant person. He’s outstanding. I really enjoy working with him and I really like him. He’s head strong and he’s really bright and he has the most energy of many people that I have ever met.”

bad day for those fans that suggest Robins is frustrated with the owner, King is meddling, etc etc

Indeed. Aside from a couple of small things I think King has been great and has done everything he can to help move us forward. The performances of the team have absolutely nothing to do with him and I think it's completely ludicrous to suggest they do.

But he can affect the performance of the team.
If he's foisted the new coaching set up on Robins against his will, (I've no idea if that's the case, it probably isnt).

If he's denied Robins the use of short term solutions, (loans, short term contracts for unattached players), to fill gaps in the squad.

These things can definitely impact. Whether they have or not is speculation admittedly.

Agreed, but as you say, speculation.
People are now saying we should have pushed ahead with someone like Alan Browne on a free as its what we're missing, but from what Saddle posted (again, rumours I suppose but best we've got) King had no intention of blocking such a move and we lost Browne because we were too concentrated on Stamenic.

He's not going to come out and say he didn't want loads of coaches and is fucked off we are piss thin in midfield is he?

This response shows your agebda

Robins doesn’t have to be so overtly positive about King does he ? He has deliberately chosen to be.

No it doesn't. It shows that media soundbites regarding your boss aren't ever going to be negative are they?

How many managers across the 92 speak against owners in interviews? Il tell you. None of them. Because they are the people employing you

Would you plaster all over LinkedIn that you disagree with your boss and they've done things to piss you off? No you wouldn't

Same thing

Yeah, the Browne situation sounds like a right balls up.

I would not openly criticise but I also wouldn’t describe them as outstanding, brilliant, etc etc

There is a safe middle ground and Robins has chosen not to take it because he doesn’t have the negative feelings towards King that some hope he does have.

No one hopes he does. We all want the club to succeed and their relationship is crucial to that.

But with so much upheaval and a poor start it's natural that there's going to be speculation

This was said before the latest defeat. Could it be flattery, as he knows he is on thin ice?

The big question is @Saddlebrains from what you’ve heard is it fixable?

Talk of divide amongst players / players unhappy/unsettled at not getting moves - slippery slope and will be sad if MR falls because of them downing tools. He deserves so much better.

Honestly couldn't say. There is definitely a squad disconnect that wasn't there before. Splinter groups so to speak of players. Some players don't spend any time with others outside of training and match days. Which is their perogative I suppose but doesn't exactly help team bonding

Players are frustrated with the mixed messaging tactically coming from numerous coaches which isn't helping. However training is a much higher standard, and more enjoyable and varied than previous.

Aled Williams being defence coach is utterly baffling

Honestly cannot say, I wet the bed last season start and I'm trying not to do the same this but I do bare in mind something I was told post Oxford, when things didn't even look bad

Robins is the last man standing of any sort of clout from what Doug classes 'the old regime'. Everything else is Dougs. Dougs appointments, Dougs ideas, Dougs plans. The only thing he hasn't and could potentially want to change, is the manager. The old saying of 'give someone enough rope to hang themselves' could be at play, i don't know 🤷‍♂️

There was bids turned down for certain players/discussion had on deadline day, that's for sure and MR has hinted about people needing to focus and forget that.

Appreciate thoughts.

This is where MR now needs to shut all noise down. His team, his message 4/5 games and let's see where we are. If no better then I fear the worse for him - and he deserves so much better than ending like that.

Milan was one

PSV came in with 9 million, we rebuffed
Appreciate your inputs. Shame the squads become like this considering how tight knit they used to be. Wonder if the results might panic Doug to look at the free agent market again. Sounds like we could do with two old heads just to beat some sense into the younger ones.

This is it. And this is where not getting a number 2 in and instead adding more noise in Delaney and Carr doesn't make sense to me.

With a number 2 next to him, like Adi, Robins could bounce ideas off them and get a constructive critiqued response

At the moment you've got Carr, Delany, Boateng, Williams et al all thinking they know best. Credit however to Boateng who apparently is very receptive to Robins and they have a good relationship

The other lot seemingly think they're the bollocks with fuck all to prove it

Dougs flat out refused due to 'the model'

Which is where he shows he has fuck all football knowledge and shouldn't really be getting involved

So then recruit boateng as a number two. Bin the U21 coach back to the U21 and build from there.

With the Allen injury - we have to use Free Transfer option. We literally have Eccles, half fit sheaf and torp who im sorry is just not up to it for me.

Need a director of football if Mark is happier without having to do it all then. My worry is Doug will only learn when Robins either walks or is sacked.

In that case then surely Dean should have the last say with Mark isn’t that normally how it works in regards to DOFs.
Nah the director of football is effectively in charge of the long term health of the football club.

he works with the performance director in order to put in place the infrastructure for the club’s long term health.

I’ve touched on it before. 20 or so years ago, the manager would be in charge of everything. But when he left it caused massive upheaval where you’d replace half the coaching staff and the manager would have his own players

Nowadays the structure is put in place, players with certain desired attributes are signed long term and the manager is more a head coach.

effectively the process is cheaper long term. When Robins eventually goes. Whether it’s now or in 5 years planning will already be in place to identify someone who works with the acquired types of players. (Think someone with a UEFA pro licence - given the low numbers in this country - likely to be a foreign appointment)

More recently the most successful teams with this model which are arguably attainable role model clubs…. Brighton and Brentford.

Sounds like a load of management consultant speak TBQH. It’s clearly not working no matter how modern it is.

Well the method itself has been successful and is generally the method used by teams we’re wishing to emulate.

I’d argue the players we have in are talented players, @Saddlebrains suggests above that the training is much higher quality, Robins himself has mentioned multiple times that he needed more behind the scenes and it’s being provided to him.

his remit is to get the team playing as a cohesive unit, and as I’ve said before I feel that Robins strength is getting limited players to fight for each other, almost creating a siege mentality.

I’ve said this before - how many permanent players since league two have bettered their careers since leaving us? There’s about 5/6, 2 of them were two of the most talented players we’ve ever had in Hamer and Gyokeres

Since we sold Gyokeres and Hamer, the calibre of player we have recruited has improved and it’s up to Robins to adapt his management style to suit the better players.

It’s fine margins guys…..

We have created more than enough chances to have killed teams off and had many more points. We just haven’t taken them. We could easily have another 4 points by now and the start looks much brighter.

Yes we were woeful on Saturday for 30 mins but I honestly believe had Bassette or Rudi scored when we hit the bar and we go in at 2-2 that we go on to win the match ….

Then we would have had a good perf at Watford, very good against Spurs, and a great comeback …. We would be talking about having turned a corner today, the spirit in the camp etc etc

Fine margins …..

On the flip side - talking of fine margins the Oxford defender doesn’t inexplicably pass the ball to Wright in the 96th minute And we’re sitting here with 0 wins.

knowing the city - 2-1 win on Saturday

Robins agreed the new coaching set up is what is needed to become an elite club in this league and it was his decision to not replace Adi.

The issue is currently Robins unable to get a lot of taleneted players to play as a team. Maybe prima donna syndrome has set in with some players. But we pay their wages so they need to perform. But performance on the pitch is a Robins headache and not Doug’s. Doug needs to run the club as a business and not run it with high emotions like fans.
