Robins' blindspot! (1 Viewer)

Can someone please explain to me why Robins insists on playing Haynes?! He seems to have a complete blind spot about him. He constantly plays short passes, is extremely predictable which allows the opposition to intercept the ball almost every time. He can't head the ball, he doesn't know how to run down the wing into space....holds the ball up for no apparent reason. He takes for ever to take a throw in....some may say he's waiting for some movement...well actually the movement was happening the moment the throw was ready to be taken but then dies out once Haynes had dithered and missed the opportunity. I cannot find one single reason as to why Robins sticks with him. Last night he had a shocking first half, yet merrily came out again after the break.

I know we don't have a lot to fall back on as far as goalies are concerned, but another blind spot is Burge. You just know the moment there is any kind of chaos or panic in the penalty area, Burge just isn't going to be able to get in there and tidy things up. He occasionally pulls off a great save, but there are many more qualities required to call yourself a goal keeper, and Burge is missing most of them, particularly command of the penalty area. I despair as far as he is concerned. A decent keeper would make a world of difference. Even Allsopp looked a class above Burge last night and we all know what we thought of him when he was with us!

Because Stokes has been so poor. If there was any sort of real challenge for the spot I'm sure Haynes wouldn't get a look in.

Stokes needs game time to build his confidence...he's a far superior player and much better defender. In my opinion an under par Stokes is still a better bet...

Yeah, tend to agree, but he clearly hasn't been the same player this season and seems to have visibly slowed too.

That's true...but I kinda feel a decent run of games might sort that out. His positional play and reading of the game is way better than Haynes, so his speed is less of an issue. Yesterday the only two decent looking tackles Haynes made were when he was out of position and had to frantically run back and get a foot on the ball. It looked impressive but a better positioned player would have dealt with it much more calmly.

Stokes performances this season have been worse than Haynes.
The worse left back performance for us this season was Stokes at FGRs.
Having said that, I'd still bring him back for Saturday and just hope he can regain a bit of form.

Can't believe people getting excited over Haynes making 2 tackles in a game.
Well, yep, as if it makes up for all the other things he did wrong.

People are giving Bayliss a bit of grief and he scored and set the other one up too.

Haynes has been mentioned by many supporters this season of the opposing team of what a good player he is - If the scouts have been noting he actually may be on his way in the summer to better financial pastures new and possibly league 1 - Most of the season we have not been letting any goals but also not scoring - W now have two exciting overlapping fullbacks that are helping dramatically improving our goals for of late - Issue are in midfield, central defence and goalkeeper they have to be better - Although this is a haynes defence reponse, I did notice a few having a go at Jack grimmer saying he was not good enough - Is this the same Jack Grimmer that was voted in the leage two team of the year last week???

How are Haynes and Grimmer improving our goals for, out of interest?

you have a point in that it highlights that these players will make mistakes and that's why they are in league two. Grimmer had an off day last night, but over the season has played his part in a by and large a solid defence.

We pretty much spend every pre season signing a new team and hoping they all come together. We all know the areas that need strengthened as will MR and he needs the time to get it right.

Couldn’t have said it better myself.

Stokes can defend and Haynes can’t. Haynes should wear a health warning on his shirt - this defender will cost you points. Mowbray for all his faults never played him - it cost Presley his job as he always played him.

Why fans obsess about full backs going forward when they can’t do basics is beyond me. Stokes has played more games than Haynes and we’ve been more solid with him playing.

Robins will eventually lose his job if he doesn’t ditch him soon

He might be fully aware they are weak links at this stage of the season. But they might still be better options than the alternatives that are available.

It's very easy to target full backs and g'keepers for criticism because their mistakes are somehow more apparent.

The problem is Robins expects his FBacks to get forward, but they then have to get back to defend and neither are strong enough to do that for 90mins.
That's why I have some sympathy for playing three Central Defenders.

In the early part of the season we had a sound defensive unit but didn't give the strikers any support. In most teams the mid-field supports the strikers but ours supported the defence. Now that we are scoring a few more goals we leave the defence less well supported and it shows.
You have to defend while you are attacking and that's what we have been poor at and why we have shipped so many goals recently.

Well that's my opinion

No idea what I'm on about but would five at the back with Kelly dropping out turned out any better, all in hindsight of course?

No change there then!
Toby fayre though, I remember 3 players around Rhead at some points in the match and he still won the ball, so I think 5 (3 CB's) at the back would have made no difference I believe as he battered us.
