Robins Interview (1 Viewer)

Game too far for us
Really Tired
They have players available
We started off the game hoping we would hold on until we could make changes
Looked flat
We have to be better defensively
Conceded poor goals
We go again
Should have played in December
OHare is trying to get out of the way so looks like a dive
Second is penalty, ref maybe influenced by first one
No complaints about the result
Performance as could as we could have got
Our bench was ok
we need to get more players fit
Miles better than last year

Baffling how he said he wanted to hold on until we could make changes and go for it.

What does he mean? Waghorn?

Wouldn't say it was miles better than last year. I'd say it was exactly the same as what we saw a lot of. Sideways, safe passing, no one taking the game by the scruff of the neck and then losing.

We looked like a team still adjusting to this level tonight

This would be my conversation with MR
Game too far for us - because no investment from SISU; otherwise could have rotated players; Cardiff played Saturday also and looked fresher and fitter than us
Really Tired - no excuse see above argument
They have players available - no excuse see above argument
We started off the game hoping we would hold on until we could make changes - that was the game plan? who did you plan to bring on to make a difference?
Looked flat - looked like shit
We have to be better defensively - this I agree with
Conceded poor goals - well taken goals partly due to our poor defending
We go again - okay I was not expecting to forfeit the next match
Should have played in December - I know, but they used the COVID card
OHare is trying to get out of the way so looks like a dive - whatever
Second is penalty, ref maybe influenced by first one - cannot be relying on refs to give penalties
No complaints about the result - me neither
Performance as could as we could have got - performance sucked
Our bench was ok - lol
we need to get more players fit - we need more players period
Miles better than last year - but we might end up with the same point total as last year. Then what would you say?

Can't really argue with anything he's said there. Pretty honest and not trying to sugar-coat anything

I really hate the ‘oooh we’re so tired’ excuse. They are professional athletes. It’s not like they’re playing a game every day for god’s sake.

Exactly. They’re pro athletes up against other pro athletes. Small changes in output make a big difference. Take 2mph off an F1 car and it’s still fast but it won’t win races (maybe, I have no fucking clue about F1).

We have used the least amount of players and made second least number of subs in game because we don’t have a full squad for this level. That’s not the players fault, we’re asking them to do more than any other set of players in the league.

Someone said the same to me a few years back and it made me look at the tiredness issue in a new light.

Gyokeres at 98% v 100% Aiden Flint is a bigger difference than Shmmee at 98% v 100% Sheafisgod.

the reasoning used is frustrating becuase he has the likes of Jones and Tavares on the bench presumably at 100% and not even giving them 10 minutes when Gyokeres is clearly shattered

Thing with the 'tired' excuse, why has he not utilised all his subs in previous games and when he has done it with only 5-10minutes to go?

Not like he's suddenly woken up this morning and gone 'Fuck me! We're playing a lot of games in a short space of time aren't we! if only someone had told me that a few weeks ago..."

Because he doesn't think they're good enough.

Clearly Gyok at 98% is better than Tav at 100%. What we should have in the squad is someone who is as good as Gyok at 100% as he is at 98%. But that goes back to lack of investment and i cant be asked for that again...

That's what happens when you spend the least money in this league it catches up with you.
And before you all start crying look at Derby we only need to step up a couple of places in the spending table.
The core of this team is pretty good IMO just need a bit of help at the moment.

I was using the 98% figure to highlight the differences between pro-athletes and normal people.

there are times that Gyokeres should be brought off if it just isn’t working, and it’s clear he’s nothing less for that game - he needs a rest. Yes Tavares isn’t at that level but at least giving him a run out and change things up is worth a go.

of course your investment point is somewhat correct - but we let Walker go and a large sum of money was directed by Robins at Waghorn.

The problem is we play the majority of games with intensity and with a small squad. It was going to catch up with us. Even more so on heavier pitches.
I do think though he should get a better balance between experience/fatigued and inexperienced/fresh. Give Jones a start and bring on Howley and Tavares. A bit of youthful exuberance could have made the difference in the second half. It is always going to be a gamble but so is grinding players to the ground.

I get your point but dont think you are taking into account the level of player enough. Personally think if Tav played at this level he would be anonymous and woudnt get a kick. But understand that until we give him a go we wont know

Tavares was probably a bad example, we let Walker go, goes hand in hand with the investment point. Ultimately we seem to be running Gyokeres into the ground, and all we have left is Tavares. Last 10 - literally no reason not to give it a go. Is he likely to do something to jump ahead of Gyokeres - no. But it gives Gyokeres a slither more of recovery time

Get your point. Dont think Walker shouldve been let go really. But he was let go to bring in a permanent LWB who despite a lot of peoples opinions i think will come good. Im just frustrated that we had to let Walker go to enable that move.

Tiredness is a really poor excuse we’ve played the least amount of games in this league. It’s not as though he doesn’t know you play 46 games. We’re not carrying loads of injuries or no more than any other club. If he’s of the opinion Jones and Tavares aren’t up to it which seems to be his view given he won’t play then then why not let them go out in January?

It’s a boring excuse also I’m sick of hearing it,wasted a sub starting Shipley on sod it just throw Tavares on see what happens I bet he’s the fastest player at the club the kid is lightening

Clutching at straws thinking a kid is going to come on and take the league by storm..lets leave it to Robins he gets updates on what Tavares can and can't do, although his subs again was uninspiring!

That's the thing but we are starting with players like Shipley who we know will be anonymous.

If it's the last 10 at 1-0 down then why not bring somebody with pace. What is there to lose? At worst he can at least press and hassle and bring some energy.

What did waghorn do today?

I said this on another thread. Robins set us up like this in most games last season around December. Think we drew 4 out of 5 games 0-0. The game plan is basically hope to get to an hour at 0-0 and then try and be slightly more purposeful for the last half an hour. It shows a complete lack of ambition and makes the game almost a coin toss. The first XI has zero goal threat in bar Gyökeres.

Lightning doesn't cut the mustard against teams who sit deep though.

As soon as they went one up, they were looking to catch 'us' on the break, unless you meant start with Tavares. That's not gonna happen.

Yeah fair point. He will stick with Waghorn over Tav though as he has to justify Waghorn being one of the top earners and marquee signing

Don’t think anybody is saying he’s going to take the league by storm. Robins is moaning the players are tied, if that is true then it must be the same for other teams given they have played more matches than us. With 10 minutes to go and with no real prospect of threatening the opponent’s defence I can’t see why you wouldn’t throw someone on with some speed it might actually do something.
I can hear the after match interview now on Saturday that we were too tired again, the pitch was bumpy, the pitch will be the same for both teams. He has a squad and chooses not to use some of them, fine but don’t moan they’re tied when you could have done something about it.
