You would think reading the reports particularly oxford utd that there was only one team in the game and they should have beat us 5 or 6 nil and their manager quoted all out goals should have been disallowed??
I must have sky blue ross tinted glasses or to much beer as we played the better football first half went into a 2-0 lead should have shut up shop - Lets face it they only scored one goal themselves as we scored two fluky own goals - We also had a chance with O' hare to wrap it up before he eventually scored - entertaining game but we should have taken all three points

We scored against the run of play 3 times.
They should have scored 6
We had 4 shots
They out-passed us
We gave ball away far too much
Midfield was non-existent

Better performance needed on Saturday

Yeah we had the better game... for the first 10-15 minutes. Everything after was the Oxford show. We were lucky to even come away with a point imo.

and how many times last season was it us that did the out passing, had the chances but came away with either a point or nothing?
I understand the frustration that we could have had 4 more points but there is also a lot to indicate improvement from last season.

Objectively a draw was probably a fair result. When you’re 2-0 you should win and when you’re 3-2 up with 1 minute left you should win but I don’t feel gutted by the draw.

We’re still on track in terms of winning our home games and drawing away. Also, I think if we’d won and gone joint top our fans would’ve shat their brain and have false expectations for the rest of the season. Let’s just stay in the pack, it’s a long season.

Midfield was non existent? They ran themselves into the ground (I was there not watching on iFollow etc). On the ball they didn’t do too much (apart from Westbrooke goal, O’Hare goal, Shipley assist, Kelly assist) but there is a lot to be said for actually just being in position. Work rate is probably more important than a few fancy flicks or crunching tackles but it’s not what the fans notice. You don’t need to make a great recovery tackle if you’re already in position forcing a player to pass sideways / backwards

This may be where we have to find out how to use O'Hare effectively. The way he plays you can see him turning games into a basketball style game. he has such an attacking intent that it will be great when we have the ball, but I suspect his positional play defensively may leave us open to counter attacks at time. That said - really glad we've got him, as he'll cause the opposition more problems than he does for our own defence!

They were better than us all game bar 15 first half minutes , we got a point.. That's football

I thought all three of our midfield worked their cobs off, with little help from Hiwula and Jobello. A lot on here knock Jordan Shipley but he covered our left hand side like a trooper, got a bit of a knock early in the game and an early yellow but battled away covering the still raw rookie McCallum who Oxford put loads of pressure on and as said not a lot of help from Hiwula. Hard to pick a man of the match but it would come out of one of our midfield three probably Kelly for me just but he was at fault for their third goal

Virtually all managers use self serving bullshit immediately after a game, especially if they haven't won
Mind you it's such a precarious occupation you wonder if you'd be any different on their shoes

We won't play much worse than that this season I dont think, I really thought we sat too deep and literally invited them on, were sloppy with possession and just had an off day... Happens to all teams.. We were poor and could've nicked it, that says Alot really

We were lucky to get a point , even at 2-0 we had one free kick and one break away goal and that was about it. They had the majority of the play

We looked disjointed, Shipley was terrible, hiwula wasn’t much better and made bad decisions and mccallum looked out of his depth too often ( although did ok in spells )

We are desperate for creativity in midfield , and need Allen back ASAP or Shipley to hit some form. We also need McFadzean back to boss that defence.

And we scored 2 bizarre own goals, we could have come away 3-1 winners having been pretty dire.

Yep-that’s exactly how I saw it aswell. Haven’t seen the match stats either but they must have had a high corner count possibly 13-14 and I can only remember maybe 1 or 2 for us. That also shows the pressure we were under and a truer reflection of the game.

14 corners to 2
18 shots to 9
Oxford 60% possession

We did well to get a point, but ffs what's wrong with all our goals? If we're wearing rose tinted tinted glasses, he must have yellow flying goggles on.

So at 3-3 we made more use of our shots, corners and possession than them?

For instance 3 goals from 9 shots compared to 18 shots to score 3. 3 goals from 40 per cent possesion rather than needing 60 per cent of the possession. Stats alone are bollocks.

I thought until Dabo's first own goal that for all Oxford's pressure, that Rose and Hyam were soaking it all up fairly comfortably, clearing all their corners etc, and were our best players. You can't countenance for own goals like Dabo's. I don't think McFadzean coming on would have changed anything on this occasion, particularly given he was on the pitch when Oxford scored their late equaliser.

My other half said after the game that in previous years we'd have been the Oxford in that situation, dominating the game but coming away with a loss/draw. It's great to see the progress in the team that we play poorly yet still score 3 goals and pick up a point away from home. We need to work on being the masters of our own downfall though, we sat too deep all game. When we went 2 up everybody apart from Godden was on the edge of the box. Even at 0-0 we brought everybody back for corners. Even despite this though we only missed out on the win due to a freak own goal.

We sit back every game as soon as we get the lead, it's very frustrating. While we can hold a lead against the poor sides like Gillingham and Southend its not going to work when we play the likes of Peterborough and Sunderland and keep inviting pressure onto ourselves.

To score 3 and play crap is a really good sign to be fair. Something we've not been able to do in ages. Goals seem to be coming now which is great. Just need to assert a bit more dominance and control with the ball which should come with Allen and we'll probably be up there this season.

Early days for a totally revamped squad. Until they all bed in over a significant number of games then there will be as many downs as ups. Way too early to get upset by performance and results or indeed to get over excited. Unbeaten in the league so far that is a good start.

Scoring 3 goals against the run of play is good isn't it ?, perfect away performance i would say, we are breaking teams down at "home" and scoring against the play away, long may it continue.
