As it turned out a draw was a good result and you can have a good draw even at home. Going in 0-1 at half-time had me worried Rotherham would come out second half park the bus and leave us vulnerable to breakaways i’m sure that would have been the topic of their half-time team talk but Goddens early equaliser sorted that out and I thought we were much the better team second half, against a good side too, I reckon on reflection although we could have snatched it at the end MR and the players won’t be too downhearted with 1-1.
Also I thought Robins got his team selection bang on playing the two up front from the off it occupied their back line and made them wary of pushing too high. As I said in the end a decent result things are still very much in our hands and we move on to Sunday.

Wilbrahim at Rochdale, when he came on, and Smith last night were both huge centre forwards who disrupt and harry the defenders and create second balls for others to run on to. A different set of problems for our back three. Rotherham's midfield were strong runners and technically adept so you can see why they are top.
We had to gain a foothold and after we gifted them the goal we grew into the game. After our initial burst post half time I thought that the game could have gone either way and that defenders were excellent for both sides.
Some have mentioned Kelly for a few games now and you can see he is running on empty.
Dabo continues to be the best player, not just for us, but possibly in league one and O'Hare can't really be just a loan player-he busts a gut in every game he plays and you can see why Carlisle fans felt the same about him. He leaves nothing out on the pitch, he give his all. Bravo young man and you will get everything you deserve with that attitude, even with Aston Villa.
Well done to the crowd as well. You could see it was a step up in terms of support and on a dank winters night too.(you don't get to use the word dank very often nowadays)
Just a reference to this thread each week and to the usual suspects who make this place a joy on match days, I wouldn't want to be in the trenches with some of you.

I also maintain that Crooks knocked the ball out of Marosi’s hands!
not a cat in hells chance
Marosi had lost it and was scrambling. during the scramble he made contact with Crooks, but he was just there and wouldnt have been able to move
Fair goal - move on

I thought we grew into the game and upped the tempo significantly in the second half and definitely had Dabo and Sam further up the pitch which stifled them, they are physical, and move the ball fast so I can see why they are at the top, probably the best team I have seen this year apart from Ipswich for 45 minutes in the league game, a good point but would be great to get 4 points from the next two games.

When we press with our own tempo like the second half then I genuinely believe we are unbeatable and I don't want to criticise too much but Kelly is being shown a lesson from Walsh who we have to remember is a Championship player and therefore looks weaker as a player. I'm not sure he is playing worse, just the team has stepped up to a new level and he needs time to spread those long balls, he is not getting that time in these big game and his short game is not great when hurried.

Nah, as Crooks ran past, Marosi still had the ball. There’s movement in Crooks’ arm towards Marosi/the ball. Look carefully on the reply. I’ve watched it 4 times now and I swear he punches it!

Either way, fair result!

They’re completely different types of players? And Kelly’s just going through a poor patch.

Fair play to them. What they do us effective but it's anti football.
I'd rather pay to watch Christopher Biggins rub a cheese grater on my bell end.
Half their team look like they've got scoliosis.

They play the same way as Wycombe but just better at it. Its effective football.

That referee made my blood boil was way out of his depth, the blatant shirt pulling and pushes was incredible.

Yes Kelly was struggling against These guys who were very fast to get the ball in midfield and I am sure MR would rest him if he didn’t see the captains role as a vital communicator at this stage of the season - fortunately the Dabo , O hare , Walsh axis is the source of midfield creation and even more important breaking up play virtually anywhere - Giles for his few minutes looked quite assured - bring on Subterraneanland PUSB

just looked at the replay and confirmed what I saw last night, Crooks runs past Marosi and knocks the ball out of his hands, using his shoulder/arm to do it. Should have been a free kick along with all the others and handballs the ref missed last night. He's just been promoted from NL 1 level, I think he should go back there for a long time

Everyone else is blaming Crooks or Marosi... I'm sorry everyone, it was clearly my fault as I only made it to the stadium in time for the second half... I've only missed one game at home this season, that was against Tranmere.
I'll try not to miss another game!

That is a very good spot. Intrigued as to why Marosi didn’t complain about this at the time.

Agree. Kelly’s taking a little stick but I thought second half he stepped up when needed (covering defence etc) and is vital to this team. Rotherham are a fast, physical team that press quickly, not probably what you need after playing every minute week in week out (mostly Tues, Sats) inc big cup games.

Last 15 mins or so Walsh was magic (one run and pass was a class above this and next level) but it took for them to tire a little and game to open up, for him to properly express himself. It’s what happens against the top teams at your level.

The lads should be proud, especially with the tempo they came out with second half. Great character again !

On a side note, is Jamie Allen still unfit? He’s constantly in and out of the side

As well as going two up top to nullify the press I think a major factor in Biamou coming in over Allen was height. We watched the first half down at the front and they are just absolutely huge. There genuinely wasn’t one player under 6ft. He probably considered that bit of extra height for set pieces.

The plan should’ve worked really being able to run into either channel and play it round the corner because they leave so much space at the back due to such a high press but just didn’t quite come off.

My assessment of Kellys performance was the same as yours. Still far from his best though, but I thought an improvement on recent weeks.

presume even with that type of pressure he expected to hold it so was disappointed

Either way he’s been quality this season and still made a great save or two last night (as he does most games) to keep us in it

ref was shocking all night, allowed they to use their obvious physical advantages.

Walsh is usually very consistant throughout the game, but yesterday him and Kelly were both very ordinary first 60 mins.

Walsh stepped up about 3 gears last 30 mins. So frustrating he didnt start like this.

Robins was spot on in post match interview that the players just lack a bit of self belief sometimes.

shame pask was injured earlier in the season when we could’ve tried him out in that role a bit (in cup games etc) when things didn’t matter so much. Mayve allowed us to give Kelly the odd breather when needed

Regarding Kelly I suspect he is MRs first name on the team sheet he does that important job in front of the defence and he is pace wise the same in the last minutes as the first. He rarely gets subbed although not a spectacular type I think we would miss him if he was left out.

Ofcourse we would miss him, he does alot of the cleaning up and allows others to play.

See I guessed the reasoning for Biamou. It’s just a general observation, Allen for me is our best player, but he’s in and out of the side

Did anyone see the look of disappointment on the Rotherham fans faces last night at the end? When they realised they had to go back to Rotherham?

Just watched the highlights in slow motion, he did elbow it out of Marosi's hands.

According to 'Clive Eakin' he dropped it and it was a fair and square goal

Nice to hear Robins admit he got it wrong last night starting 2 up.

O hare was trying to deal with 3 midfielders and we really lost the midfield battle first half.
I feel that had allen have started it might have been a different outcome overall.

But Ive woke up still very happy with that point
