Rudoni …? (1 Viewer)

So far it’s been a meh with Rudoni’s performances. In pre-season he looked good and the signs were good for the start.

In the games so far he hasn’t impressed. What is his position? What’s his role? He looks lost in the 10 role.

Another one where we expected a bit more.

I thought he was a best player on Saturday most others disagree
He needs to score and set up chances though
I agree, I thought he was one of the players who seemed to be trying things, moving and offering an option to pass to. Moving him into different positions didn't help and neither did our reluctance to pass forward if we had options to the side or behind.

My concern with him before is end product, still the case. Caveat not sure he's had best players around him, see how goes with sheaf playing.

I like him, just not sure what he is. Doesn't really create or score but does look a threat on the ball, nice passing range, works hard. I know it's not where his career has been, but still think he could be one of our two holding midfielders in a deeper role. Allows BTA to start too that way.

He’s not a 10. Unfortunately, we don’t have an out an out 10 either. Would like to see Torp given a go there tbh.

I said it in the match thread; he isn’t a 10.

He’s an 8, which is the system we all thought we’d be starting with.

I feel for him as he’s a good player, but he’s being asked to be the creative spark at 10 which isn’t his game and fans will then start to question his ability, confidence will drop etc etc etc.

Him and Torp/Eccles at 8, with Sheaf at 6 would help.

Early days. Apart from Oxford, Rudoni has been pretty poor. On very little evidence of proper competitive games, he looks like he may struggle to score many goals.
A continuing problem for our midfielders until O'Hare chipped in with a few last season.
Stoke and Bristol midfield were forcing Dovin to make saves. Other than the Oxford match, we have had few midfield snots on target in proportion to the attempts.
The Rudoni air shot against Norwich where he missed the ball completely sums up our midfield type attempts. Torp has knocked a few goal wards in the league but that is about it.

I thought the was very poor on Saturday.

It's fine making runs etc, when you haven't got the ball, but you have to do something with the ball when you HAVE got it

He made two very good passes right at the end, but that was about it.
He was barely in the game before that. Torp and Eccles were much better, Eccles, especially.

But I wouldn't say he has been rubbish in every game. Against Oxford in the league game, he was fabulous in the first half then. Really ran the show. Faded in the second half though.

There's definitely a player in there

Technically very good. Agree with others about where he’s currently playing. I think it was in the pre season where he was the one picking it up off the defenders and dictating play and he looked good doing it. Would personally have had Torp the furthest forward of Rudoni, Eccles and Torp.

Like with any new summer signings I’ll judge him around Christmas.

Surprised you thought that. I thought he was virtually anonymous and it was his worst game for us so far.
At Huddersfield he played deeper than he’s been asked to at the moment and to me is a better player taking the ball off the back 4 and staring the attack. However he’s not the only player who looks lost. EMC hasn’t got much of a clue when on the right but switch him to the left and he’s a totally different player. I’m a great believer in that if you bought a player who historically has been good enough to play in a position which caused you to buy him then play him in that position. It could be you get the best out of him.

If you’re gonna get the best out of Rudoni you play Sheaf as the 6 and Torp and Rudoni as 2 8’s

Basically robins is going through one of those phases where he’s just making weird decisions. There’s a couple of those phases every season

Don’t think he’s looked great in any of the games yet… despite that I’ll give him some slack, due to two things. The first being he’s still showing, wanting & moving into relevant positions which is half the battle.

The second being we’ve got literally no-one in the team playing a progressive pass, let alone into him. He was in plenty of space with time at the weekend yet we decide not to try the pass & it goes side/backwards.

He was clearly frustrated a couple of times in his body language and it’s not surprising if he’s expecting to be creative. Let’s hope Sheaf is back sooner rather than later or we attempt some progressive quicker passes in final third.

Agree with that. I think he’s trying to keep too many happy. I’d never have taken Simms and Wright off so early v Norwich and when subs did come on they were square pegs in round holes.

If you’re gonna play 4/3/3 you play Thomas and Kitching, you play sheaf Torp and Rudoni and you’re drumming progressive patterns of play into them constantly if that’s how you wanna play.

Agreed, honestly it was pretty poor the shape change towards the end, no one had a clue what they were doing.

they’ve got 2 weeks to get it right, no excuses really

He isn't a 10 and I don't think we have played him as a 10?

The system for me is less of an issue than the lack of intensity. In the Stoke and Norwich games we’ve strolled about. I’d stay with 4 at the back as we’re not conceding many goals but I would be tempted to try Wright through the middle flanked by Emc and Bta. Lots of pace there and in preferred positions

Id be tempted to try BTA on the right I must admit, there’s no one else really at the moment anyway

When is Rodrigues back?

I doubt we will see him this side of Christmas as a first team contender. Probably longer considering it is a big step up and he has missed the pre season. Not sure why people are considering him as a potential solution?

Let's just let him get fit and settle in. He is clearly nowhere near the first team despite Mark Robins kind words.

Let’s be honest, you have no idea how close he is to the first team.

if he was fit, he’d be starting against Watford in my opinion.
