Rumour: Hoffman and Elliot takeover negotiations (15 Viewers)

Hmm, I disagree with this, when itcomes down to it I'd argue it's more the Telegraph can't afford to turn down the Wasps sponsorship but then... you're not going to agree with me when I say that, are you? ;)

On that note however, would you agree there are times when your personal opinions have to come second to your job and, therefore, your employer's? (not necessarily on this issue, in general)
Isn't that the nature of all employment?

On Wasps, some will say we should not cover them at all. But that's not realistic.
They're a top flight rugby team with national appeal playing in the city - running one of the biggest businesses in the city. They cannot be ignored.

Given the papers stance in regards to the CCFC owners, would it really be that hard for the paper to have taken an 'ethical' stance on the presence of Wasps?

After all the paper made quite a noise on the 'unethical' movement of CCFC during the Sixfields debacle.

Just a question and all that...

That was hugely disappointing. To let them just roll up unchallenged was poor by anyones standards.

The other issue with the Wasps coverage is how lightly they get away with things. Fisher comes out with something and experts are dragged out, FOIs sent in etc. Wasps say anything and it goes unchallenged. Things like there being no option but to move to Coventry when we know there were other options; moving to the Higgs when they stated they had numerous other options and so on.

I'd be surprised - in fact I'd be gobsmacked. You seem to convieniently forget they were both a part of the mess we find ourselves in.

In fact - why not go the whole hog and get ready for Nigel Farage's benefit gig for cultural awareness.

I am not forgeting anything just saying what I think they are up to. Preparing for the moment we are about to go to the wall.

And thinking about it I want Simon to post here, and Les Reid too, and it would be fun if we could get Cllr Maton and Fisher on board too.

I might not agree with any of them but I want to hear their opinions - in fairness though if we keep hammering them with stupid names and personal insults it's understandable if they don't want to engage. This is an angry place at times, and I'm as guilty as anyone. Come back Simon, I can change. :)

That's totally my point. Anytime anyone comes on here who may have connections they get hammered. Unfortunately it's usually petty abuse and goading.
All very self defeating and annoying for those fans who want to hear their opinions.

Has anybody with connections ever come on here and posted honestly without an agenda? I'd say osb is sort of a good example, how often does he get hammered?

If any poster is acting like a prick then I know enough people will not be shy is letting them know.
I also note that some posters have little black books ready to pull out posts from the last decade to make a point.
Viva la difference as they say in Canley.
Hasta la Vista , as they say in Tile Hill , Baby . :wacky:

I know what you're saying Nick, but the truth is that it's very hard to deduce people's motivations for posting here in most cases, so generally I'm up for letting them express their opinion and then analysing it and finding the faults. If we just shout them down, where does it get us? I accept again that I do this too, I'm not claiming to be better than anyone else here...

I should say that for all we know osb is a complete SISU-puppet or council stooge plying his own agenda, but the the detail in his posts suggests otherwise and they are obviously well-thought out and difficult to dispute in most cases regardless. God knows I've tried. :)

Was it on CWR or in the Observer?
Genuinely don't know.
I don't know either. All I remember is the story was broken by the telegraph (the national paper) and the only thing run in the local telegraph was a small story about 'no further action' or something. It seems for too coincidental that such a positive slant would be put on a story that could negatively affect local public opinion on a major advertising partner.

I agree OSB seems very balanced. He has some connections and yet an agenda from him doesn't come across.
My point though is agenda or not I would prefer people on here providing that information so I can make my own assessment of it.
I have no issue with people debating what they say challenging it or supporting it.
What's annoying is childish goading, shouting people down and abuse.
The only outcome to that is you stop hearing what the person has to say as they are either replying to the goading in similar ilk or they just no longer bother.
